  1. Bad wording. Point remains, that would be an asset at the catching position if it turned out that way.
  2. That provides a lot of value, don't discount it. Who knows what they will do, but don't dismiss the value that possibly provides.
  3. Watford's decision to stay means Indiana will return all 5 starters & 84.65% of its scoring (2355 pts.) from last season.
  4. According to "sources" and being reported by Jeff Goodman at Fox, Watford is coming back! Excellent news if it is accurate.
  5. Funny saying this but Kruger was probably a more sexy hire than either of these 2 at the time. Kruger was in a hard to win situation with Jimmy Collins around. I think a lot of people thought that Self's success at Tulsa was still some holdover from Tubby Smith. Weber was not Illinois first choice, but I do not remember who all was considered, I think there was a lot of talk about Sampson at the time. Sampson was when we hired Self. Damn...should have hired him.
  6. Ok then, so how does Louisville not have an advantage over Illinois using that criteria? Illinois has a better recruiting base, slightly less history, and comparatively equal fan support. The argument for Louisville as a better job than Illinois has more to do with the history of the program, a lot more than who is currently the coach (and can we give Groce at least a season or two before we call him an abject failure?) I may be biased based on where I live, but I can't imagine there being many comparable fan bases to Louisville and UK. That state cares about nothing else. Their facilities dwarf Illinois, and pretty much all other Div 1 programs as well. I liked the hire by the way.
  7. Your base is only effective if you are using it. Louisville has pulled many kids from the Chicago, New York/NJ area. Again, I'm not a fan of them at all, but I think they are clearly a better job.
  8. . Recruiting base, History, Fan support. In that order. Ok then, so how does Louisville not have an advantage over Illinois using that criteria?
  9. K? I wouldn't call Butler a better program than Indiana. It just popped in my head. I think Illinois is an attractive job, but Louisville is better historically and currently, better support, facilities, hall of fame coach, and located in a state that goes nuts over basketball. I don't LIKE Louisville at all, but I think it is a more attractive job than Illinois.
  10. Louisville isn't that bad. I live nearby, and while not my most favorite city, its not a bad place to live.
  11. I think Louisville has been to 3 elite 8's since 2007. That could be wrong, going just off of memory. They also play in a basketball crazed state, huge support, and a brand new NBA like arena.
  12. I've read a few things that suggest the family may need the $. If that is true, he needs to do what he needs to do. There has been no formal decision made, but most seem to expect it. This will open up time at his position for a few guys. Sheehey and Hollowell most likely. Hard not to miss a 6-9 guy who can handle the ball a bit and shoot. Adjustments will need to be made.
  13. At risk of interrupting the pissing contest, looks like Watford is gone for sure. I can't blame a kid for leaving, wherever he lands I hope he makes the most of it. As for IU, he will be missed. The program has grown to the point that this won't kill them, but would have been nice to have him for another year. This does solve the scholarship situation, wonder if Crean knew this was likely all along. Add Watford's name to the list of "Creaned" players.
  14. This thread is always entertaining. Can you imagine if all of us got together to watch our teams play one another? That would be fun.
  15. Good luck with Groce. Rather it be him than Shaka or Stevens.
  16. I see where some might have wanted more of a "name", but from what I have read about the guy he has some good things going for him. In related news, everyone expects Watford to enter the draft and quite possibly stay. Some have speculated it is based a lot on family need. If that is the case I wish him the best. Just not suris of his NBA prospects. If he has to take the European route I hope he makes enough $ to make it worthwhile.
  17. So do you think it's just a matter of time before Groce gets the job? Or is it possible they move on to plan D?
  18. Mike Davis would satisfy the minority issue. Bring him back to the B1G. Seriously though, what the hell is going on at Illinois?
  19. Not sure I'm willing to buy into this just yet: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/18048914/south-region-wrap-up-cals-wildcats-rolled-right-on-through-to-new-orleans
  20. I'd rather die. Yeah, it sucks to have the core of a really good team back and a top 5 class coming in. I am going to try and make it through. If it gets to be too much for me, I may watch some Illini games to calm my nerves and put me to sleep. I enjoyed the hell out of that game, no shame in losing that one.
  21. Classy. IU had a hell of a year. You would trade places with them in a second, and you know it.
  22. Suck it Big 10 critics. IU scored 90! Too bad UK scored 102...hah. Hell of a season. Can't wait for October.
  23. Crean sold his soul to the devil, you will win. You really do think about Crean...a lot.
  24. What is the origin of the Stevens rumor? Good for Illinois if true. Going to back to trying to convince myself IU has a shot tonight...
  25. I'm going to have to live HOW CLOSE to that state? Apparently too close to turn down a "top 10" job? I'm sure they will make a good hire. I wonder whoever choice #2 is will insist on the reported 2.5 million/yr. If true, they might regret putting that number out there.
