There's probably a way to trade all three of Castillo, Wood and Lake or Sweeney to the Phillies (they've been connected to the first two already this offseason and don't have much outfield depth) but I have no idea what I would want from them. Maybe get Amaro drunk and convince him that quantity is better than quality for Hamels.
I like the deal. Liked Fowler for years, wanted to get him from the Rockies. Bummed about giving up Valbuena but that we didn't give up any prospects for a solid centerfielder is a win. This also gives us flexibility with Alcantara, as others have mentioned.
I still keep thinking that Edwin Jackson for Cameron Maybin (and some cash or prospects on either side to offset the difference) makes too much sense. Especially given some reports today the Padres are looking for an innings eater in the rotation. If not that, maybe some kind of Wood for Venable trade. A bunch of those NL West teams match up with us.
Can't believe the Yankees gave up on Banuelos for two middle relievers. Carpenter and Shreve have decent numbers but Banuelos still has a legitimate shot to be a solid starter, no?
Turned off the MSU game for the Winter Classic. Switched back over once it was over and glad I did. What a great day in sports watching. And I can't stop watching that Vine of the Baylor kicker.
I've long liked Denorfia and it's a cheap deal, but how is he different from Sweeney and Coghlan? Surely one of those two is getting dealt or cut, right?
Rays sign Asdrubal Cabrera. Precursor to a Zobrist trade? I'd love to have Zobrist but I'm worried about the cost considering he's gonna start to show his age and, IIRC, he's a FA after the season.
Peterson pickup is interesting. Not an exciting player but a good depth outfielder who can play all three positions and has good on base skills. Also, apparently everyone decided to make moves today. Really like that trade for the Yankees.
Chicago Cubs @Cubs 3s3 seconds ago #Cubs acquired RHP prospect Matt Brazis from @Mariners for OF Justin Ruggiano. Brazis is 8-6 w/ 14 SV, 2.89 ERA in 100 games over 3 seasons. I know we have a glut of 4th-5th OF types but I figured Coghlan would be the one to go.
