  1. The way I see it, getting him away from Coors is a huge help, and being a ground ball pitcher helps in Wrigley. And he's an upgrade on John Lackey.
  2. We don't know the return but this is a bizarre move for the Mariners. I'm guessing they're gonna go the Billy Hamilton route and assume he can play passable CF? It looks like he played 9 games in CF in the DWL in 2013 and that's it since going pro.
  3. My ideal offseason had us signing both Cobb and Chatwood, so we're halfway there. (tbh, I didn't think we'd be this close in contention for Otani). I like Chatwood a lot and that seems like reasonable money.
  4. There are plenty of better cheaper options for the back end of the rotation. Plus, it sounded like he was considering retirement if the Yankees didn't bring him back.
  5. Kintzler isn't bad but he'll get overpaid for having closer experience when, yeah Neshak is a good alternative.
  6. Yeah what Tim had is pretty close to what I'd want to do, if we get Ohtani and Cobb. Rivera seems like a no-brainer to bring back. Wouldn't hurt to add a couple of AAAA catchers too. I'd like Holland and McGee and part of me is interested in a buy-low starter such as Hellickson or Friers. And Smyly on a 2 year deal with incentives. Multiple people here have brought up Nunez but doesn't his defense rate pretty badly?
  7. Would be thrilled to land Smyly on a minor league deal just in case his arm ever stays in one piece. I can't believe Chi Chi is already getting DFA'd. He's like 2 years off a top 100 listing. Same in both regards. And the Rangers always seem like they're in need of SP help.
  8. Some interesting pitching non-tenders: Chi Chi Gonzalez Jared Hughes Shae Simmons Drew Smyly Mike Fiers Xavier Cedeno
  9. Yeah that makes sense. And if we have a full pen and he doesn't look bad it's also a trade audition for some team trying to fill the back of their pen. But I like him as a bounceback candidate.
  10. He was a great story, one of the rare really solid Rule 5 picks, and he was a solid late inning reliever for a few years. But yeah, I think we all saw this coming.
  11. Old friend Beef Wellington is back in town, two year deal with the White Sox.
  12. Considering what we gave up for Wilson, I'd much rather keep him and work on mechanics in ST than sell low on him. I think he'll bounce back.
  13. I'm not really a fan of trading Monty. He's under contract for several years and is a valuable swingman. I do think there's potential there in dealing Caratini to Oakland for one of their many arms. Makes a lot of sense. I also like the idea of a Brett Anderson type deal with Hellickson (though ideally with better results). Getting him back with Hickey and Maddon could be good. I also really want Cobb and I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been more about that recently. Honestly, things seem pretty quiet on the hot stove front. No one has signed a deal yet and there's really only been the one notable trade (Mariners getting Olson).
  14. Good return for the A's. Campos was a big IFA signing and Pagan had a really good season as a reliever. Also means Vogelbach is kept buried on the depth chart.
  15. Rays considering a full rebuild. How does Happ, Almora, Albertos, Caratini, Zagunis, DJ Wilson sound on Kiermaier, Odorizzi and Colome?
  16. Haaaa, I remember that. Didn't someone at the cubs.com board also post for three days in row stuff from the Winter Meetings because he was at the hotel and then later said he wasn't and made it all up and asked us to forgive him?
  17. Full list of the minor league free agents: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/minor-league-free-agents-2017/#MO2Fcdf7SdGW2HB2.97 Lot of interesting names for depth purposes (or just amusement; former big time prospects like Banuelos and Mason Williams and former Cubs prospects like Jake Fox, Mitch Atkins, Aaron Kurcz, MIKE OLT, Shawon Dunston Jr., Mendy, to name a few) Cubs FA:
  18. I'm not going nearly that in depth but I would really like to add Cobb (3 or 4 years at 15 per?) and Chatwood (2 year, 15-20 total?), in addition to keeping Davis and adding a pen reinforcement like Neshak and/or McGee. I'd also like to keep Rene Rivera and Brian Duensing, if they're open to returning cheaply. Old friend Geovany Soto is available too if Rivera doesn't come back. If we end up moving Almora for a pitcher, how do people feel about Carlos Gomez?
  19. Uh, yeah so these guesses are a little bizarre: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/2017-18-top-50-mlb-free-agents-with-predictions.html
  20. Also, we need two starters, unless the plan is to let Tseng, Butler and Monty compete for the last spot after signing one of Lynn/Cobb/Chatwood. That doesn't seem ideal.
  21. Shoot, forgot Ramos got dealt. What's Barraclaugh worth to them?
  22. I feel like it's just writers spitballing regarding bad teams + controllable starters. Only way I see Phillies moving him is if it's in a deal for Trout. So, no never gonna happen. He had an incredible year and is their ace for the next several years while they get back into the playoffs.
