  1. I do believe Marquis is a better pitcher than he displayed last season. That being said, I still don't want him on the team, especially for the contract he'll most likely get.
  2. I recall that. Sigh, those were the good ole days.
  3. As if we've never gone into a season with a bunch of "ifs" before. I don't appreciate the eyeroll. Yes, we've gone into seasons with "ifs" before, but I think we're all setting ourselves up for a massive dissapointment. Soriano alone won't fix the lineup. We're status quo with Ramirez (but that's a good thing), and we added Lilly and Cotts to the pitching staff. Wowie. But looking at all these posts.... "IF Prior is healthy" and "IF Hill can pitch like he did in the 2nd half" and "IF Wood's shoulder can hold up" and "IF we can do better than Izturis and SS"... just far too many unknowns to be absolutely certain of any type of success this year. Last year was somewhat of the same thing. "IF Prior and Wood are healthy" and "IF Miller could come back and help the rotation" and "IF Pierre can be a good leadoff hitter" and "IF Dempster can prove he wasn't a fluke" and "IF Cedeno and Murton could repeat their rookie years" and so on and so forth. Granted, these are on a lesser scale than this year. I know what you're trying to say and I concur, but I'm also saying "ifs" are nothing new to this franchise.
  4. As if we've never gone into a season with a bunch of "ifs" before.
  5. Three lefties in the rotation? I don't think so. Hendrickson is very mediocre, and with the signing of Lilly, we need a #2-3 starter, not another #5 guy.
  6. I think the Yanks are just trying to run up the price on the Cubs until they can move in on Pettite. They're also probably staying in the Lilly sweepstakes if Pettite spurns them, so I would not rule that out.
  7. OH, don't you bring your negative vibes in here, mandinga!! I wonder what Z wouild get on a free agent market like this. Depends. Is he gonna be a SP or a DH? Both. If he goes to the AL, he'll pitch and still bat for himself.
  8. Do you value Mr. BB himself Carlos Marmol anywhere near Hill? Hill is ready to go NOW. Marmol has great stuff but is still a year or two away IMO. Strangely enough I put Mateo over Marmol RIGHT NOW. Can Marmol play shortstop? He has a higher career OPS than Izturis.
  9. If I'm Schmidt, I take that deal. I highly doubt anyone else would give him 18 mil per year, and it leaves open the option of a return to the west coast/ Seattle to close out his career.
  10. Not sure where to post this, but ESPN News just announed that they'll have the Jock on at 3:40 ET to discuss the Cubs' offseason thus far. Interesting they're having him on as he's involved in many trade talks.
  11. Easier said than done, especially with JH and his apparant infatuation with wanting to sign Lilly and Meche.
  12. That's good news. That is always a scary thing and it's good to hear that he's ok and that he'll be back. He has loads of potential.
  13. Maybe as a 4th starter and if he doesn't cost much and if the Phillies take on some of contract.
  14. Juan Pierre can throw farther than Bernie. I always liked him, but do not want to see him on the roster next year.
  15. NO!!!!! Please Jim, do not sign Meche for 4 years.
  16. First day, things are just starting to heat up. I didn't think we would have a flurry of signings and trades right away. I expect things to get in gear sometime tonight.
  17. He gave up a living, breathing human being for Andy Pratt. Andy Pratt. Andy... Pratt. Oh, great. Thanks for reminding me of Andy Pratt's existence.
