  1. A UCLA kid in the 17th round for the Cubs. Ethan Flanigan. CR, you have any insight as our resident fan?
  2. Have I missed something or why hasn't Wicks gotten the call up to Iowa yet?
  3. Surprised it took this long. Hosmer really hasn't hit all year and Mervis getting recalled created a logjam. I like Rios a lot on paper but he has barely played and I wonder how he'll be used. Just to have another body for a few days until they need a pitcher? I had a feeling they might send Keegan down to try and work out some kinks in Iowa. Hope he's not down for too long.
  4. Oh man I'm ecstatic. I love Happ and was starting to assume this wouldn't happen. Not only is he staying put but its a very reasonable contract. He clearly wants to he here.
  5. Happy Opening Day
  6. Only three years is a bummer but it keeps him locked in for a bit. Glad to have it.
  7. Bummer about McKinstry but this seemed like a logical conclusion. He'll get plenty of playing time in Detroit too. Looks like Morel starting the season in Iowa. Guessing they'd rather he get more at bats than he would as a bench guy to start.
  8. I honestly forgot he was taken. More upper minors depth.
  9. Steele is a 5 win pitcher Rios and wisdom each hit 30 HR Adbert is an all star and takes over the closer role. PCA makes his MLB debut this season.
  10. Torrens is fine but losing McKinstry for him is an odd choice. Also not shocked about Wick possibly being on the outs but Rucker has not impressed me. I'd hardly consider him a lock over other guys.
  11. Omg new forum. Thanks for helping me get logged in, Brock. I just realized it's been damn near 20 years since I joined this site 😳
  12. I actually posted this in transactions but we traded Quiroz to the Phillies for cash to help out PTR. I wonder what this means for Bote. I had assumed he'd get sent off to a needy team with the spring he's had but now he outlasted another depth option at Iowa. Or maybe none of this matters.
  13. Is it still technically the offseason? We traded Esteban Quiroz to the Phillies for cash. PTR is pleased.
  14. Ooo fun. Here's my incredibly researched take on the top 20 Davis PCA Alcantara Wicks Horton Wesneski Christian Hernandez Canario Cassie Palencia Ben brown Mervis Amaya Made Killian Herz Ferris Triantos Howard Mule (even with the TJS)
  15. This is upsetting. Was really looking forward to seeing how he handled the competition this summer.
  16. We signed Edwin Rios. Has massive power and can play the corners. Was wasted/blocked in LA. I like it but I'm shocked it's a MLB deal. Ethan Roberts to 60 day IL.
  17. Fullmer was a favorite target of mine going into the offseason, let alone now. I like it.
  18. Agree. And I still feel like there's some kinda Madrigal for AJ Puk trade to be made. Maybe it's wishful thinking. But that would pretty much set us up well.
  19. We signed Luis Torrens to be catcher depth in Iowa. Backup catcher for the Mariners last few years. Bat first catcher that has not always hit well in majors (but has in minors).
  20. Makes absolutely ZERO sense to me why a rebuilding Kansas City would trade Mondesi at his absolute lowest value for a middle reliever. I'm truly stunned. I would have taken Mondesi to be the Cubs everyday 3B (when healthy) for that return 10 times out of 10. Mondesi is coming off a torn ACL, has one year to free agency, and is not a realistic option on an MLB roster at 3B with his punchless bat. Him having any value is predicated on being a plus defensive SS, and that's obviously going to be an open question coming off a knee injury and only having played 80 games of innings at SS(with decidedly not-elite metrics) since the start of the pandemic. Yeah the real answer here is the Royals should have traded him a year ago. Missed opportunity to get a real return.
  21. Cubs also just literally uploaded an hour ago a video about Manny Rodriguez inspiring kids in Mexico. Brutal timing.
  22. We claimed Julian Merryweather from the Jays and DFAd Man Rod. Merryweather throws hard but has been beaten up in the majors and is already 30. I guess they're disappointed in Man Rod's development. Also Mancini is gonna force someone else to be DFAd and might it be Rucker at this point?
  23. I'd be fine if they signed him and then donated his salary to a women's shelter and had Clark beat him with a bat at home plate. But it's the Ricketts so his salary would be donated to the next trump campaign.
  24. Yeah I like Mancini a lot and he was a preferred target but the Hosmer signing complicated things. Definitely means Mervis starts the year in Iowa. Hopefully Hosmer is on a tight leash. Also the more I look at the lineup the more obvious it is that Madrigal has no spot. I wanted it to work but I doubt at this point it will. He's gotta be traded soon right? Or would they be content to start him in Iowa and see what happens?
