  1. We signed Luis Torrens to be catcher depth in Iowa. Backup catcher for the Mariners last few years. Bat first catcher that has not always hit well in majors (but has in minors).
  2. Makes absolutely ZERO sense to me why a rebuilding Kansas City would trade Mondesi at his absolute lowest value for a middle reliever. I'm truly stunned. I would have taken Mondesi to be the Cubs everyday 3B (when healthy) for that return 10 times out of 10. Mondesi is coming off a torn ACL, has one year to free agency, and is not a realistic option on an MLB roster at 3B with his punchless bat. Him having any value is predicated on being a plus defensive SS, and that's obviously going to be an open question coming off a knee injury and only having played 80 games of innings at SS(with decidedly not-elite metrics) since the start of the pandemic. Yeah the real answer here is the Royals should have traded him a year ago. Missed opportunity to get a real return.
  3. Cubs also just literally uploaded an hour ago a video about Manny Rodriguez inspiring kids in Mexico. Brutal timing.
  4. We claimed Julian Merryweather from the Jays and DFAd Man Rod. Merryweather throws hard but has been beaten up in the majors and is already 30. I guess they're disappointed in Man Rod's development. Also Mancini is gonna force someone else to be DFAd and might it be Rucker at this point?
  5. I'd be fine if they signed him and then donated his salary to a women's shelter and had Clark beat him with a bat at home plate. But it's the Ricketts so his salary would be donated to the next trump campaign.
  6. Yeah I like Mancini a lot and he was a preferred target but the Hosmer signing complicated things. Definitely means Mervis starts the year in Iowa. Hopefully Hosmer is on a tight leash. Also the more I look at the lineup the more obvious it is that Madrigal has no spot. I wanted it to work but I doubt at this point it will. He's gotta be traded soon right? Or would they be content to start him in Iowa and see what happens?
  7. He had Dansby first I think. I'd buy it. We could use another bat and another lefty in the pen. And Nico extension.
  8. Brian Anderson is still a free agent. One year deal and plug him in at third and make Wisdom the DH? Not the sexiest move but improves defense and he was a good hitter pretty recently.
  9. Yeah Cueto to the Marlins has to mean a trade coming. Really want the Cubs to be involved.
  10. Absolutely incredible stuff. Imagine Cohen gonna have a fun Twitter thread about this.
  11. The Phillies traded three backups for an all star closer. Sounds like a video game trade where you disable the computer rejecting it.
  12. I had been thinking up some kind of Madrigal, Rivas, ManRod, Rucker, Riley Thompson/insert favorite tradeable prospect to the As for Seth Brown and Aj Puk but idk how much it makes sense or if the A's would even be interested. Seems like it would give them depth and their recent trades have seen them targeting quantity over quality.
  13. We signed Ryan Borucki to a minors deal. He's been good against lefties in his career and we don't have much lefty relief depth so... Throwing stuff at a wall type signing.
  14. Nats signed Dom Smith. That's one rumored option off the table. Tbh I was never a big fan so I'm not broken up about it. Seems like it's gonna be Hosmer but I'd hope he gets paired with a power DH bat. And there aren't many available.
  15. What dark magic does the Braves front office employ in order to get players to sign these team friendly/reasonable contracts?
  16. The Puk/Seth Brown and Luzardo/Wendle are two trades mentioned on this board that I like most because they fit obvious needs. If Madrigal isn't used in either I've wondered about a challenge trade with the Mariners for Kelenic.
  17. That's what I'm thinking? Maybe Mancini is in the works? But I believe the 40 man is still full?
  18. Bummer about Rivas. Always liked him and he's a decent bench bat. He is gonna get claimed or traded. Kay is a former first rounder and decent prospect and also a lefty but has not been good in his brief time in the bigs.
  19. Arizona also getting Lourdes gurriel in the deal. Wild. They have a surplus of outfielders. I wonder if we could trade for Pavin Smith or Christian Walker.
  20. Now that's an interesting trade. Varsho will presumably play only CF in Toronto with Jansen and Kirk still there. Kiermeier now becomes a backup? Arizona has Carson Kelly at catcher but he's been somewhat disappointing and Moreno could be a stud. Curious who else is in the deal.
  21. Just looked it up. The Tigers has 15 players with more than 120 PAs last season and only one of those players posted an OPS above .700. Yikes. Javy led them in HR with just 17
  22. I feel like I said all this earlier in the thread. I didn't come to this site 20 years ago to read!
  23. So reading into it more, it's fine. Barnhart was actually not a total black hole at the plate before 2022. And he has hit righties better his whole career and Gomes has hit lefties better his whole career so it makes sense as a platoon. And he gets rave reviews for his play behind the dish. It's not sexy but it will do as long as they add at least a Conforto.
  24. Sharma says we're signing Tucker Barnhart. Gross but not unexpected. Hoping Amaya is funny recovered and gets a shot in 2024 or even later this season.
