  1. Lol I picked Kohl Franklin and Reginald Preciado as my weepers this season and so far they're proving me wrong. Very early, obviously.
  2. I've seen enough. The Drew Smyly Experience is over.
  3. So Cooper still needs to be added to the roster right? Is Brennan Davis or Keegan a goner or is there a trade coming?
  4. Aren't these supposed to be BOLD predictions? lol. I'm swinging for the fences. Busch surprises and hits 30 dongs, nearly wins ROY. Morel ends up playing all over and hits 40 homers and is an All-Star. Happ sets career highs in homers, wins 3rd straight GG. Imanaga actually wins ROY. Hendricks posts a 3.25 ERA and a similar FIP, signs another team-friendly extension. Adbert saves 40, is an All-Star. Hoerner goes on a 20-game hit streak. Bellinger hits 30 homers again. Suzuki finishes top 5 in MVP voting. Cubs make playoffs, don't win it all.
  5. I just think it's cool/nice that after years of not being able to develop pitching, we have a staff with a bunch of homegrown guys. Steele as a solid top of the rotation guy. Wicks should be locked into the rotation awhile. Assad and to a less recent extent Keegan Thompson as solid long relievers. Adbert as closer. More guys on the way too. A nice change of pace, finally.
  6. He'd be able to handle 3B, 1B and maybe 2B, so that's nice. But it's been 5 years now since he was last adequate at the plate. He's cooked.
  7. Sorry, based on other threads and posts I'm obviously gonna have to change my weeper to PCA. Dude sucks.
  8. Reds are falling apart early. First Friedl and now McLain. I'd be more bummed if they were in another division. They seem like a fun team. They're probably glad they held onto India. I don't root for injuries but hoping we can take advantage early in the season.
  9. Baseball has plenty of traditions. This is expanding the game to a broader audience and fans and is a fun idea.
  10. Gonna avoid using anyone previously mentioned. Hitters: Sleeper: Chris Paciolla. He gets overlooked and something tells me he's gonna break out. Keeper: BJ Murray. I think there's a real chance he gets MLB at bats this year and barring an acquisition or a Morel defensive facelift, has a chance to take meaningful innings at 3B next season. Weeper: Reggie Preciado. No one else in that trade has shown up. It's all on Caissie now. Pitchers: Sleeper: Richard Gallardo. I've been high on this guy awhile and think he'll handle AA pretty well. Keeper: Nazier Mule. I'm so intrigued by his athleticism and everything we heard about him pre-surgery. Weeper: Kohl Franklin. The stuff is there but he's never gotten results. Coming off a FIP over 6 in AA and is Rule 5 eligible. It's a true make-or-break season and I think he's out of the organization this time next year.
  11. So there's no room for both Mastrobuoni and Madrigal and no room for both Wisdom and Cooper. I'd personally rather have Mastro and Wisdom, if Morel can play a somewhat competent 3B. But regardless a trade seems inevitable. I still keep going back to trading Mervis for an interesting reliever. Maybe expand it to include whomever gets pushed off the OD roster.
  12. The full trade is Cease for Thorpe, Iriarte, OF prospect Sam Zavala and MLB reliever Steven Wilson.
  13. Drew Thorpe (acquired from Yankees in Soto deal) and Jairo Iriarte are two of the players going to Chicago. Pretty wild. You wonder if holding onto those assets and signing Montgomery or bringing back Snell was ever in the cards. And now you have to wonder, with the Gerrit Cole news, if the Yankees buckle on one of those two.
  14. I know that one game is a drop in the bucket but that defensive play at 3rd followed by the walk off has to be good for Wisdom sticking around yeah? Especially with Morel looking.....not ready.... at 3rd. Or do we think they'll push through and try to trade Wisdom?
  15. I'm glad I opened this can of worms by comparing PCA to Kiermaier lol. As for JD Davis, him to the Mariners makes too much sense. They have a black hole at 3B and are trying to compete. I figured Chapman would go there or San Fran.
  16. I mean you're right, I want more than that, that's just the baseline I hope for. The fans who are never happy are the ones saying he's already washed based on a cup of coffee and one spring training.
  17. PCA is going to be just 22 still in a couple weeks and has shown up against upper minors pitching. He's going to be ok. Maybe he won't be a superstar but I'm hoping he can be our Kevin Kiermaier. There's a lot of value to that. Some people will just never be happy.
  18. Mike Zunino retired today. He could hit some bombs and little else. He was 3rd overall pick in the 2012 draft and it got me looking back at it. Of that first round, the Cubs had 7 picks eventually play for them (Almora, Pierce Johnson, Paul Blackburn, Addison Russell, Marcus Stroman, Eddie Butler, Patrick Wisdom). Just interesting tidbit. Almora did NOT pan out but him tagging up on that Bryant sac fly and then scoring in Game 7 is probably worth it.
  19. Didn't someone print up NSBB t-shirts for the up and coming prospects in like 2004? horsefeathers I've been on this board forever. How was that 20 years ago
  20. Ha I was pretty ok with the trade but I also felt at the time that we were trading away our future All-Star second baseman. Oops. Similarly, I was absolutely devastated that we traded aforementioned Brendan Harris in the Nomar deal. Thrilled we got Nomar, pissed at what we gave up. Again, oops. Harris did have a couple nice seasons later for the Devil Rays. And we got Murton in that deal too!
  21. I was fine with trading him at the time but I still can't believe we packaged him and DJ Lemahieu for mediocre Ian Stewart and a 27 year old pitcher in AA. A big early whiff from Theo.
  22. We didn't hit on many but you can see a pattern in the 90s to early 2000s where we had some guys who became decent big leaguers or at least were highly ranked prospects and then sometime around Felix Pie we had like nothing for a few years. IIRC the 2004 and 2005 drafts seemed pretty bad at the time and are pretty bleak in hindsight.
  23. Oh no I forgot about David Kelton and Jason Dubois.
  24. I had so much fun following those early 2000s prospects. Who remembers Nic Jackson and Brian Dopirak and Luke Hagerty and Bobby Brownlie?
  25. I really want Keegan to make the team but it's unlikely and he honestly feels like a Rays type pitcher. I can see them still swinging another trade or two like the Horn deal.
