  1. Awesome. Long deserving. Too bad they couldn't do it while he was alive
  2. Hoyerstein likes to work in the shadows.
  3. Gotta see what the dollar amounts are. He's a decent platoon partner/bat off the bench but is futile against lefties, has awful plate discipline and isn't much of a defender. Phillies are just throwing money at band-aids and their offense could be pretty bad next year.
  4. One of those two is most certainly going to be traded now. I think they'll want BJax in the opening day lineup.
  5. I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Iannetta and is much older, but Chatwood is a nice get.
  6. I read the Yankees would have to be blown away to part with Montero, but they'd deal Banuelos, Austin Romine (their other top catching prospect) and any other necessary pieces in a possible deal. Given that, I don't know if Romine is an improvement over Welington Castillo (other than he's 2 years younger). The Yankees are definitely interested, but I don't think they budge on Montero. They were almost against trading him for Cliff Lee, let alone for Garza.
  7. I forgot about that. This makes it even better.
  8. I honestly don't see how it means any of those things. Byrd can be benched and the AA outfield still has plenty of openings. Yeah, I really don't think Cespedes makes the immediate jump to the majors. More likely he spends at least a few months in the minors.
  9. I'd love to have Headley, but I have a hard time seeing the Padres trading him without getting a top prospect in return (whether it's justified or not). Stewart was just plain bad last year, but he's still young and mashed in the minors. If it wouldn't cost much to get him, I don't see the harm in pulling the trigger and hoping this is the year he breaks out.
  10. Excellent signing. I've always been a fan of his, good hitter with decent gap power and speed on the bases. He's also a pretty reliable fielder. It's also a team-friendly contract. I put last season's struggles on injuries and playing home games in Oakland. Looking at his splits, he was noticeably better on the road and turned it on after the All-Star break. I think he's a nice buy-low candidate and a good start by the new regime.
  11. Clearly, his dues have not been paid yet.
  12. He posted gaudy numbers and had an ERA+ above 400, but anyone else amused by David Robertson getting a vote for Cy Young and MVP?
  13. I'm curious: how did he look nervous? Was he sweating? fidgeting? untalkative? I'm not doubting your friend or anything, I'm just curious what classifies it as "looking nervous."
  14. Ugh, I just noticed this thread. It hasn't been a fun week for Penn Staters.
  15. And sadly Carroll is an upgrade over what they marched out there last year.
  16. http://tampabay.sbnation.com/florida-marlins/2011/11/11/2554718/miami-marlins-new-uniforms-leaked-images Officially unveiled in an hour.
  17. There's a vesting option that could push it to 60. So, to recap, the Phillies gave a four year, upwards of $60 million contract to a 30 year old reliever AND surrender their first round pick. Good. God.
  18. I like the sound of that. I don't think he's giving them that big a discount. That's still a lot of money, but he's gonna get a way better offer from someone else.
  19. I think I'd agree with that. Sure, Loney has a decent glove. But that is almost negated by the fact he's a below aberage first basemen offensively. I don't think he's gonna post an OPS above .800 again.
  20. They're the Yankees. No way they go into next year with CC, Nova and hope for the best from Burnett and minor leaguers/minor pickups like Garcia and Colon. It was their downfall last year. They're gonna go guns blazing (joke intended) for Wilson. If that fails, like it did last year with Lee, I could see them trading for an ace.
  21. Royals need pitching; Giants need an outfielder who is under 35 and doesn't totally suck. Looks like this one could work out for both teams.
  22. He's fairly consistent, has decent power and walks a lot. But he'll require a pick, will likely want a three-year deal, isn't getting any younger and some other team will overpay for him.
