  1. As we know, the HOF can force a cap selection on a player, but ultimately the player gets to make their choice unless the HOF significantly disagrees with them. So either Maddux chose against going in with a Braves logo and the HOF upheld his decision, or Maddux chose a Braves logo and the HOF overruled him and gave him no logo. I'm guessing the former. Edit: Dammit, beaten because I decided to make a long winded reply. Opinions are overrated anyway. That's how I've remained so forgettable my entire tenure here!
  2. And now another Rays writer said Balfour IS the announcement. Dumb Twitter.
  3. A Rays beat writer tweeted that's not the "big" announcement.
  4. http://baseballhall.org/news/press-releases/cap-selections-announced-hall-fame-plaques-class-2014-inductees Maddux will not have a logo on his plaque.
  5. Holy efff. One of the best things I've read recently haha.
  6. Aubrey Huff and Jeff Suppan also retired. That'll be a hell of a HOF ballot that year.
  7. So apparently he said he will never vote again. Great. But then this: How is this guy a real person?
  8. Didn't see this anywhere. Not a bad claim. Bad last year but could turn it around. Wasn't he fairly highly rated in their system a year or two ago?
  9. Is Lim in there or is he gone?
  10. I like it. Reasonable contract for an effective reliever. Our bullpen is shaping up to be quietly solid next year.
  11. DBacks trade Matt Davidson to the White Sox for Addison Reed.
  12. Yankees are insistent they will not trade Gardner; said the point is to have him and Ellsbury man 2/3 of the outfield and bat next to each other. I'd love to grab him in FA, though. And with Valbuena, Lake, Watkins, etc on the roster and Alcantara and Baez coming up soon, I don't think a Barney trade hurts us. He is going to make more than he is worth very soon. I know he is coming off a down season but if the Yankees are as smitten as it sounds like and we can get a decent arm out of it, I don't see why we would say no.
  13. Rockies sign Boone Logan- 3 years, $16.5 million That's a lot of money for a LOOGY.
  14. Couldn't they have just paid him a couple grand and paid for his travels at some point in ST to do this? Instead of taking him? I understand it's really not a big deal either way, just don't get why you have to draft him to have him come in and talk. The cost of the pick is reportedly around $12,000, so yeah, that's what they just paid for a possible one-time motivational speaker.
  15. Phillies sign the artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona to a one year deal. Cubs were in on him and Theo said we had an offer out to one starting pitcher. I wonder if he was it.
  16. Needed catching depth. Seems like had good numbers in the minors but he's 27 and in AA.
  17. from Marlins for Bugosevic. Had a down season at the plate but does offer 20-20 potential and is much better against lefties in his career. Decent platoon option in the outfield.
  18. Also the Yankees turned down a Brandon Phillips for Brett Gardner offer. And we finally made a move!
  19. Not a rumor, but happening at the Winter Meetings right now:
  20. They are talking about Lorenzo Cain too, if my source is correct. Samardzija and Barney for Cain, Crow and 2 pitching prospects (no names given to me). I don't mind that deal if those prospects are two of Zimmer, Ventura and Amonte. Louis Coleman is an interesting name too I wouldn't mind swapped in for Crow. Also has one more year of control.
