  1. Also signed infielder Chris Valaika. Just rounding up all the AAA filler.
  2. Well that's positive.
  3. I'd love Mueller back in the organization. One of my favorite players. Seems like he'd be a good instructor. Has he coached before?
  4. If the Cubs ended up dealing Castro for Trevor Rosenthal and Tyrell Jenkins I'd be done with this nonsense. I also like how we non-tender our 3B platoon for no good reason. That whole article is a joke. Look at some of the moves other teams make. Most are one-sided or make no sense for that team, like that Giancarlo Stanton trade or the Mariners trading Nick Franklin for Ludwick and a swingman or hell the Brewers trading Lohse for Trevor Cahill AND David Holmberg. Are you kidding me?
  5. Met Doc Rivers in the Orlando Airport when he was the Magic coach. At State College Spikes game last season we met Denny McLain. He was doing a signing because I guess he really needs the money. He was being kind of a creeper on any and all attractive girls that walked up to him. My girlfriend, our friends and I went to a club in Philly for her birthday earlier this year. A few friends came late because they were at a concert and they arrived with Steven Paige from the Barenaked Ladies. He seemed off. He told my gf 24 was a "good age for clinical depression" and when I asked to buy him a beer, he said "nah, I gotta go find a jukebox" and stumbled out. It was a weird experience. When I was a kid, I went to New Jersey Jackals (indy league baseball) games a lot. One time we got to the game early and got some autographs. One player was really nice and chatted with us for awhile. After he handed back the ball with his autograph we realized it was Mark Lemke. He was trying to make a comeback as a knuckleball pitcher. He didn't do too well: http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lemke-001mar
  6. This is why Vogelbach tweeted he was going to Arizona. It all makes sense now. It does kind of suck that the D-Backs do kind of have an offense built to compete so we couldn't really throw them anyone that they need. My first inclination was to include Barney along with them since they love that scrappy gritty nonsense, but they already got Aaron Hill/Didi Gregorius. Then I thought Junior Lake, but they already got Eaton, Pollock, and Parra. Then I thought Castillo, but they got Montero. Vogelbach? Goldschmidt. Olt? Prado. Honestly I would try and see if they'd do Samardzija and Lake for Skaggs and Parra. I've thought about us asking for Parra in a trade. He's a decent hitter and a tremendous fielder and they have a glut of outfielders at or near the majors.
  7. MLB Trade Rumors' predictions: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/2014-top-50-free-agents-with-predictions-1.html They have us signing Chris Young and Joaquin Benoit, FWIW.
  8. I would love to know what Matheny was even arguing there.
  9. That's not a terrible idea (well, Cano in itself is a separate discussion)...if you can use Samardzija to get a really good pitching prospect and maybe another piece, and then use the money saved to help complete a Tanaka bid along with a big signing. Just spitballing along with what you said. Not sure what the point of a Barney trade would be unless they can get something good for him, which I have a hard time seeing. They Royals' second base situation is atrocious and haven't they been enamored with his defense for awhile? They have some intriguing arms.
  10. What are the odds of it being Hinch or Acta with the other or Renteria being the bench coach?
  11. I would just prefer to not give up he or Edwards in a CarGo deal, since we're short on high-end arms. And from the rumblings, I'd think we could get it done without including either. That's just me.
  12. Agreed. He's a piece we need. We don't have enough top pitching prospects that we can afford to trade our top guy way.
  13. Anyone know where there is video of that play? I keep trying to find it. Also, shockingly, Girardi was an All-Star in his second stint with the Cubs.
  14. Perez is basically insane. I don't think he really likes anyone. Also, the NY Times is reporting the Yankees are going to make a "substantial" offer to Girardi today. I guess we will find out shortly if we're moving on from him or not.
  15. I imagine this is just agents trying to drum up interest in their players? Only one I'd be interested in Salty, and he'd be expensive. Especially considering Castillo was worth two more wins than him this season and is younger. You're not interested in McCann? I mean there's other places I'd address, but just saying as far as catchers go. McCann is also nice, but we have other places where we could better allocate the money.
  16. Not sure what the Balaguert thing is at the end. Maybe he meant to throw him in with Alcantara and Vog. More on this: So what kind of package would we be looking at? From their wants/needs, would Alcantara, Vogelbach and Russell, plus a couple of low level guys get it done? Especially if they're worried about him "being another Alex Rios situation."

  18. Baseball-Reference. Just click on a player's splits and it should be in there.
  19. And bring his brother back as pitching coach? Weren't we interested in this option a couple years ago?
  20. Certainly didn't do a piss poor job, what with the roster and expectations, but I could see the reasoning. Anyway he stays in the organization? If Girardi stays in NY, who would we target? The meatheads will complain we should have kept Sandberg.
  21. I feel like it flew under the radar, but Rondon didn't allow a run in 9 innings in September and from July 24 until the end of the season, he had a 2.28 ERA. We have a lot of interesting bullpen arms next year. Could actually be a strength with the depth we have lined up there.
  22. Mark Kotsay retiring too. They come in threes.
  23. Andrelton Simmons has a 5.3 bWAR....just on defense.
