  1. Noooope. Better pitcher? Sure. But Samardzija's market value blew Hamels' out of the water. well, that's crazy, but I guess we agree to disagree. Do you think Beane would have given up Russell for the right to pay Hamels $24M per year for the next 4 years? Do you think the Cubs will? Samardzija is a lesser pitcher, but the gap between their salaries was much bigger than the gap between their production. Also, Hamels' value now is artificially depressed due to the fact the Phillies can only deal with us. (And we aren't in a playoff hunt that could warrant an overpay) maybe to the cash-strapped a's, samardzija is a better fit than hamels, but I bet you the cubs would have traded samardzija to the phils for hamels if they had the chance.

  3. yeah, not saying i'd do russell for hamels, but hamels is waaaaaay more valuable than samardzija right now. not even close.
  4. I just wish the cubs could be the worst every year.
  5. Vogelbach is purposefully being treated as a trade chip that's a cut below, no? And while he's not some trump card, he's also got an OPS 90 points above the league average, so he's not tanking at Daytona either. there are lots of guys that aren't "tanking" the level they're at. doesn't mean anyone wants to trade for them. he needs to be a 30 hr guy to have value. he's shown no ability to do that.
  6. are we ever going to stop acting like vogelbach is some great trade chip? sub .800 OPS as a supposed slugging 1b. nobody's falling over themselves to trade for him.
  7. they're obviously not getting him for vogelbach and spare parts, and they'd be crazy to refuse to trade almora for him. come on.
  8. pretty much all the guys on that list contributed to good teams that won stuff or are currently contributing to good teams.
  9. I wouldn't say anyone is defending ned colletti or calling him a genius, but he is the GM of the best team in the NL, so it's hard to say he's doing terrible, awful, fireably bad work at the job he was hired to do. obviously most of the credit goes to the $$$, but whatever stupid, horrible decisions he's made don't seem to be slowing the dodgers down too much.
  10. I apologized for bringing up the "lol ned colletti" thing without the requisite number of posts mocking ned colletti (3 or more?). but then everyone else's pavlovian freakout kicked in and all kinds of people starting [expletive] on ned colletti.
  11. not at all. it's just kind of funny to see people snickering at the gm of the best team in baseball while singing the praises of the cubs' front office that has presided over multiple years of garbage. i mean, you really don't see how that seems ridiculous? if we're going to use awful logic like this, then give me a ring count how is that awful logic? the cubs front office has presided over multiple world series championships while colletti has none so NAILED IT or something whatever you want to hang your hat on, i guess.
  12. man, I am REALLY pulling for an angels/dodgers world series so we can all laugh about how bad all those contracts are in the world series thread...

  15. step 1: watch your favorite major league team finish in last again but pretend it doesn't matter step 2: make lame ass chuck norris style quips about javier baez, gifs about albert almora going 2-4 or some dumb [expletive], jokes about how stupid the GM of the best team in the NL is. step 3: drink alone
  16. says the guy who started the "WTF are the dodgers doing" thread the offseason before they won the NL west. NAILED IT yeah that brandon league contract (which i'm pretty sure was the reason for that thread) was totally awesome yeah he's been so terrible this year.
  17. Congrats to them on being able to have a 90 win team (and a 2 game lead) on a $230M payroll, I guess fortunately for them, playoff berths aren't handed out on a win per $ basis.
  18. says the guy who started the "WTF are the dodgers doing" thread the offseason before they won the NL west. NAILED IT
  19. my most sincere apologies. i'll post any other such thoughts in the "WTF are the dodgers doing thread."
  20. sorry, people mocking their GM isn't technically laughing at the actual LLC or whatever the exact corporate entity that is the los angeles dodgers.
  21. their very real, current, present 90 wins seasons/division titles/playoff appearances are going to be NOTHING compared to the hypothetical, dependent on current minor leaguers, future 90 wins seasons/division titles/playoff appearances of our cubs.
  22. i love threads where we get to laugh at the best-record-in-the-NL-having dodgers. i mean, what a bunch of dum dums!
  23. but hey, whatever makes you feel like the superior/more knowledgable fan.
  24. I would argue that people that DO follow the minors closely are the ones more likely to understand the percentage of flameouts (take a look at law's lol top 20 from a couple yrs ago posted elsewhere). the people that are like "the infield is going to combine for 120 homers next year" are the ones that don't seem to follow prospects that closely.
