  1. i don't know why anyone would want him over williams, hill or rusch. or mitre, for that matter. 5th starter is the least of the cubs' problems.
  2. I received a trade offer last night. I rejected it and made a counteroffer (because the original proposal was for a draft pick I already traded). Today my counteroffer is no longer showing up. I'm not sure if it was because my counteroffer was rejected or it just disappeared. I suspect it just disappeared, because when somebody asks for my 5th round pick and I counter by offering my 4th round pick for the same player (with the snaking bracket my 4th and 5th round picks are consecutive picks anyway) it doesn't make sense to me that he'd reject it (unless he subsequently got a better deal elsewhere). plus, you get an email if someone rejects your offer. something must be wrong w/ the site. MOJ -- that's a quote from the final week of the season...one of my favorites.
  3. so is that a yes? :D by the way, this is still happening. i had three trades offered last night, and they're all gone today.
  4. i like how he asks people to look at it 'objectively', then picks and chooses the stats that make him look the best.
  5. maybe you should sleep on that burnitz for vlad deal. get back to me in the morning.
  6. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So you're ok with a Murton, Wilkerson and Floyd OF? it would certainly be an improvement over '05. i was all about wilkerson last off-season, and i'm hoping his down season could lower his asking price.
  7. Against draft picks, and other rehabbing players, though. Actually this outing was in the AFL a couple of days ago. And who plays in the Arizona Fall League is my point. Angel Guzman has never pitched a full season at any level. Ever. Ever. Why on earth the Cubs insist on keeping him as a starter when he clearly cannot stay healthy is beyond me. It's going to take more than what's basically a sim game in AZ to convince me that Guzman can be counted on to give the 2006 Cubs anything. the best prospects in baseball.
  8. i'm surprised this thread hasn't turned into an 'all hail small ball' parade with the way the cardinals are scoring runs. the squeeze is the most overrated play in baseball.
  9. i did. it's a good one too.
  10. i keep making trade offers on the site, but then they disappear the next day...and i don't get an email telling me that the trade has been rejected. anybody know what's up?

    newbies... :D
  12. i think it's become pretty much par for the course to say that pie is raw...because he is raw on the bases and at the plate. i think that some of that talk has just seeped into discussion about his defense, whether true or not. i am very much looking forward to the 2006 season in des moines.

i'm no baseball historian, but i'm guessing schilling has played more than three major league seasons.

That's my understanding too; an exemption means keeping a player after the year without counting against the point limit for keeping players for the next year.Right. You don't use exemptions for someone before they even debut. This is Bonderman's third year, so this is his third, and final, exemption. Adam, of course, is very interested in this conversation with Teixeira and Matsui being third year players. :D eh, slightly interested perhaps. :D
  16. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2005_10_04_msswin_pddwin_1&t=g_box&did=milb aardsma with some problems, stephen drew is good.

yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I was thinking Bay was exempt because he didn't lose his rookie eligibility in 2003. Bonderman had a full year in 03. I assumed he wasn't exempt because of that. I'm not complaining about getting the 5th best offensive player in baseball for free. My understanding is that the exemptions start the first season a player appears in a major league game, regardless of whether he plays enough to lose rookie status for the next year. So, for example, Greenburg's one plate appearance for the Cubs this year starts the exemption clock ticking and he'd be exempt through 2007. Well, in that case neither Bonderman or Bay would be exempt. he would be points free through the 2007...which means you can keep him for free after the 2007 season. he'd use his first exemption after 2005. his second after 2006, and his third after 2007. so he'd be exempt going into the 2008 season...at least that's how i understand it.

one exemption after 2003, one after 2004, one after 2005. bay's exempt also in the same fashion.
  19. worst case scenario for you...killed you, helped the cards. if he was gonna suck, he could have at least sucked in the playoffs.
  20. yeah, everybody lay off his fb!
  21. i certainly didn't feel good about things until shelton homered and wags got the save. nsbb made a valiant comeback effort.
  22. i liked when macias swung at a 3-1 pitch in the first. i could almost feel lee rolling his eyes in the on deck circle.
  23. thanks guys...my offense sucked this week, but my pitching made up for it. it also didn't hurt that tim's pitching fell apart. i'm glad tim and i got to match up for the final...however, i do wish we had both been at full strength. i'm not sure i had the best team at the end, though...i've got a lot of work to do for this off-season!
  24. oh, that's great...tracy says weaver won't make his last start so young guys can get some innings. and then he throws elmer dessens. [expletive].
