  1. he's up to .258/.350/.475. where as his may was an awful .205/.316/.361, he's at .312/.391/.636 in june. he's managed to increase his walk rate each of the last three years to a respectable 12.1% this year, while decreasing his K rate by 7.3%. i'm not sayin', i'm just sayin'. i'm not saying he sucks, i'm just saying i wouldn't trade hill for him.
  2. ok. hoops said the cubs were alarmed by marshall and hill's recent poor outings. they both pitched great their next time out. lilly was bad his last time out, and marquis has been bad of late. i suggested that the cubs be alarmed about those guys too if they're going to let one start by marshall/hill bother them.
  3. What has Lilly done wrong? Ranks 2nd in WHIP, 10th in K's. 3.90 ERA... Tough crowd around here. what had hill and marshall done wrong? and lilly wasn't very good his last time out.
  4. maybe marquis and lilly should be "under some scrutiny" in their next starts. hill and marshall look ok to me.
  5. I disagree. I've always been under the impression a guy had to go on the DL before you could replace him with someone not on your roster. well, i'm 99% sure that's not the case.
  6. the problem is, waivers run on saturday night...both those guys were picked up off waivers. maybe we could change that. i think that replacing nomar in the lineup is ok b/c he hasn't been playing. you can make roster substitutions for position players if they are day to day w/ injuries.
  7. that myers move is looking smarter and smarter by the day.
  8. Through a source, there has been some chatter this week, nothing more, nothing less. The number of homers that Hill and Marshall gave up in their last starts alarmed some folks I'm told. My sense is that both will be under some scrutiny in their next starts. The big question I have is that if Marshall or Hill were dealt for a major bat, who would step into the rotation? Wow. If true, and I suspect it is, the Cubs really get nervous with young players over a very small sample size. Ted Lilly and Rich Hill are 2 and 3 behind Peavy in WHIP. I could care less if Hill gives up a solo HR or two as long as he keeps throwing strikes. With the wind blowing out more often as the weather has heated up, it's no wonder HR's have been flying. If Marshall had enough starts to qualify, he'd be 5th in the NL in WHIP. If I am the Cubs, I am concerned with the month long suckatude of Jason Marquis and how that might turn into a disaster in the second half of the season. ...and the next two years of his contract.
  9. best pitcher in rk over the last 28 days? jeremy guthrie...he's had quite the run.
  10. i thought it would have been better to have marquis pinch run.
  11. What?!?!? The majority of people that wanted and still want Zambrano traded was due to the fact of his contract status and the Cubs ownership status. There is no need for poeple to "eat crow". It seems that all you do around here is drop in radomly to threads to critque other posters. It is quite annoying. Calm yourself. He's referring to the people who were saying Z sucks. There was plenty of that around for a while. And for the first 2 months or so of the season all those people were right, Z sucked. I still find it odd as hell that the guy pitched so terrible, and then he declares its a "new season" and starts pitching like Cy Freaking Young. Weird. My only point was you'd think after 4 full and great seasons (great ERA+), people wouldn't turn on Z for struggling for 2 months. You'd think he'd get a little more time. He's one of my favorite Cubs, and I didn't like seeing that. That's all. and i didn't like seeing him lay a gigantic egg for the first two months of the season, throwing huge fits all the while and punching people in the face. i'm glad he's doing well now, but he was one of, if not the, reason the cubs fell so far out of the race.
  12. wood's OPS-ing .794 in the PCL this year. no way i'd trade hill for wood.
  13. it's too bad this pathetic offense is going to cost hill a spot on the all-star team. i'm mad that i wasn't around during the game so i could make a "if rich hill keeps pitching like this, he's going to get ozzie guillen fired" joke. i hope someone picked up the slack for me.
  14. yeah, otherwise if a catcher, ss, or some other spot where you wouldn't have a backup got hurt you'd just have to go w/o one for the whole week. i don't believe, however, that you can grab a pitcher off waivers if one of your SP misses a start due to injury, though i may be wrong.
  15. zambrano's horrible start followed by a great rest of the season (once the cubs are out of it) would make fred mcgriff proud.
  16. And what you dont realize is that is your opinion, and not a fact. it's a fact, and i'm right. it's a fact, and i'm right.
  17. Through a source, there has been some chatter this week, nothing more, nothing less. The number of homers that Hill and Marshall gave up in their last starts alarmed some folks I'm told. My sense is that both will be under some scrutiny in their next starts. that's pretty stupid, if true. hill has been one of the best pitchers in the NL over the past year, and it'd be foolish to make judgments about his future based on his next start. he's a curve/high fb pitcher -- he's going to give up a bunch of homers for his entire career, that's all there is to it. he k's a bunch, doesn't give up many non-hr hits, he hasn't walked many...you can't have everything.
  18. i was making a point that a bunch of you guys dont realize that its pitching and defense that win championships, not hitting. and what you don't realize is that that's not true. that's not at all the case. i've been commenting more on your posts lately because they have been increasingly ridiculous. starting right around the time when you adamently defended your incorrect definition of the word "myth."
  19. the total is actually 5 (tree, GR, sarcastic, soul and SSR). but hey, that at least is closer than most of your comments in the realm of accuracy. Getting sick of you trying to pick fights with me...this is the 4th time in 3 days. then stop making stupid posts. honestly, supporting your claim that defense is important by saying that if you pitch and defend perfectly you'll never lose is just ridiculous. you're going to get crap for it.
  20. He can't play every day. Ok, well I think he can. I also think he needs to be surrounded by better talent. I also believe he should be a 2nd base, not at shortstop, but they have many 2nd baseman right now. One thing i was wondering, does his batting average drop corralate with his spot int he lineup? why would it matter if he were surrounded by better talent?
