  1. i'm half-tempted to watch csn so i can listen to their announcers talk about how much they missed erstad.
  2. Really? How many games can you lose if you have perfect pitching and defense? (A: None) Hitting is not, especially for a Catcher, a players primary function. my goodness. how many games can you lose if you have perfect hitting? a: none. i also didn't realize that the acquisition of bowen brought us closer to defensive perfection. edit: looks like about eight people beat me to ridiculing this idiotic post.
  3. And Barrett was/is a crappy baseball player, beyond the offense, he has no other redeeming quality. Poor base runner, can't catch the ball, called a poor game, cannot throw anyone out, if Bowen hits .220 but, provides more complete baseball. He'll increase the Cubs' chances of playing better baseball and perhaps, winning baseball. wow, bad grammar and content.
  4. the guy who punched him in the face probably deserves a little bit of fault. i don't know, that's just me. this seems to be a recurring thing w/ the cubs...the team sucks so one guy is singled out as being the problem. that guy is then shipped out and the team still sucks.
  5. or late inning mental collapses.
  6. lofton was at 2nd with one out. comebacker to howry, who correctly ran at lofton. as he got real close to him, lofton started doing the juking thing and darted back toward second. howry waited too long to throw back to second, and lofton slid back in safely. plus, i think howry's throw may have been a little off line.
  7. Izzy was in the correct position. Howry just made a mental mistake. Since when is making the runner go back to the bag incorrect? That's what you're taught to do. Had Izzy been in the baseline (where he should have been) he would have been able to tag Lofton out. so because he did ONE part of it correctly, it's not a bad play? is that what we've come to expect from this team? well, he totally botched the play and likely cost the cubs the game, but, boy did he ever do the first step right! way to correctly run at the runner and then crap your pants...great job.
  8. howry also did something you are taught not to do in freaking little league. he did NOT do the fundamentally correct baseball play. he started off doing the fundamentally correct baseball play, but he didn't see it through. if he had, the guy would have been out.
  9. No, Barrett inexplicably threw the ball behind the runner. To imitate Barrett, Howry would have had to turn (right after catching the ball) and inexplicably throw the ball behind the runner without even running at the runner. Barrett's play was downright dumb and was a play that a little leaguer would make. Howry got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple inches. it was a bad play Unlucky =/= bad. how the hell was it unlucky? once lofton got between howry and second base, he should have thrown it. howry held it for a pretty long period of time, allowing lofton to get back. it wasn't luck, it was a stupid, stupid play that cost the cubs the game. had barrett done it, there'd be 10 threads about it.
  10. i dont believe i mock anyone. you've acted like that with patterson for years, and you've acted the same way in recent weeks with regard to barrett.
  11. why are you always trying to start trouble? You say you are not a fan of CP, yet you start the Alex Sanchez thing, which i firmly stand behind. so what is your deal, are you a troublemaker or what? so you get to mock posters about the players they like, but you don't like it when they do it to you?
  12. Can't complain too much? Come on... That has to be an out. He made the right play and ran at the runner. He just got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple of inches. A true Cubs play would have been for Howry to throw behind Lofton allowing Lofton to advance to third. He made the right play initially, but once you have him committed to going back towards 2nd base you need to get rid of the ball. Howry held the ball for about 2 seconds too long and it cost him, and the game. How do you know it cost him the game. If Howry makes the play there's a runner on first with two outs. With Catalanotto's hit, the runner would have been going on contact and probably could have scored anyway. because Catalanotto probably doesn't even PH in that situation if there is a man on 1st with 2 out. Bottom line is Howry held the ball too long, that has to be an out. Again, though, you still can't definitively say it cost him the game. Who gives a crap? We lost. how can you NOT complain about howry's play? that was horrible...the kind of thing that got barrett run out of town. thinking that howry's play was not that big a deal is the type of thinking that has led to hendry remaining the GM and 40,000 people paying money to watch the cubs lose every day.
  13. whenever sunnydoo posts, i can't help but be reminded of the newspaper article in the simpsons with the headline "old man shakes fist at cloud."
  14. ya, he got cut in ST by the Fish. Have you checked up on your boy Corey abuck? .210/.261/.288. when was corey ever my boy?
  15. alex sanchez. whoops, he's not in the league.
  16. and they just traded the guy who has been one of their best offensive performers over the past three seasons.
  17. I am one of the few who has really never liked Barrett. But you have to look at it from the standpoint of there's no way he would be re-signed next year to a similar contract that he's received over the past four years. Also, as much as I dislike Hendry, maybe some players expressed some dislike for Barrett. I don't know. Having said that, if you were another MLB team would you have given up a lot for Barrett? I sure wouldn't. I still think it's funny that seven years ago Felipe Alou said that Barrett would never be a good MLB catcher (from a defensive standpoint). Seven years later I think Barrett is closer to being a bad defensive catcher than a good one. And yet, he could actually hit. I would have rather gotten the supplemental pick and Barrett for the rest of the year than a backup catcher and a awful prospect. You wouldn't need an offensive catcher if you had a GM smart enough to get offensive players at other positions. The Astros and Cardinals have done quite well over the past ten years without offensive catchers. but those catchers were good defensively. neither hill nor bowen is especially good defensively.
  18. me too. today was not jim hendry's best day.
  19. not exactly a shining day in jim hendry's career.
  20. Yes, we're all glad to see the Cubs losing by an additional run. i don't think it matters. and in the battle between sosa and hendry, i'll take sosa every time.
  21. though i'm not so sure the theme from the natural is fitting. you suck, marquis.
