  1. no kidding...he hasn't had ANY success to this point. You know Shawn Estes had isolated stretches of success for the Cubs in 2003. maybe the worst comparison i've ever heard. I like Rich too, but it's clear something is wrong beyond just having a few bad outings. It seems that unless he has total command of his curveball(s), he's increasingly horrible. His fastball is adequate, but only with paired with an effective curve. Without the curve being sharp and thrown for strikes, he's a BP pitcher. Fortunately for Rich, he has gone through prolonged stretches where his curve was good, and the league was still trying to get a solid read on him. It appears they have, and a trend has developed, and it's not a good one. Rich needs another pitch to cover his butt when his curve is less than spectacular. Either that, or he is going to have to continually change up his pitch/situation strategies to prevent hitters from sitting on pitches. It seems a lot simpler to just add a pitch. Plenty of players have come into the league and looked awesome, only to fade into obscurity as they were figured out. Rich can still be awesome, but it may be evolve or die time for him. wow, that is being ridiculously harsh. It's a metaphor, abuck. i realize that, but i still think it's extreme.
  2. MAKE ROB BOWEN HIT .100 OR KICK HIM OFF THE TEAM.

  5. Just because Young likely threw at Lee doesn't mean he's not a good pitcher and not the most worthy, out of the Last Ballot candidates, of being in the All-Star game. Z isn't saying that Young's a great guy. All Z is saying is that Young has outpitched Z this year. Which is true. As far as the rest of it, what you said later is probably correct - that he's not best buds with some of his teammates. I don't think it matters who goes to whose house for cake and punch. I also don't think we can know who likes who and who doesn't. and most impotantly, who gives a carp? Not me. Abuck has some unkown reason to hate Zambrano. Keep it, it is your bricks to carry. Enjoy the load. that's quite an imagination you got there.
  6. i thought i'd be in good shape this week with like 5 of my 7 starts coming against pittsburgh and washington. guess not. by the way, i could be convinced to become a seller if people want to start making offers.
  7. no kidding...he hasn't had ANY success to this point.
  8. Sold. And where would Dunn play? Please don't say RF. And please don't say move Soriano to RF for Dunn in LF. So basically don't say anything. kthxbye. yeah, we wouldn't want to do anything to disturb this tremendously productive outfield situation we've got set up.
  9. if people are expecting an offense with pagan/pie in cf, theriot/izturis at ss, fontenot at 2b, bowen/hill at catcher, and floyd in rf to score runs at the pace they have over the past couple weeks, they are going to be very disappointed.
  10. your posts are inconsistently brilliant.
  11. LOL! pitch rhymes with rich...perfect nickname...hardy har har!
  12. but look how well the pitchers (hill especially!) have thrown since the trade. If we're going to draw conclusions about results since that trade, then it's important to add that the Cubs are 10-3 since it was completed. and they're doing it in spite of the catchers (see the sub .100 average) not because of them.
  13. but look how well the pitchers (hill especially!) have thrown since the trade.
  14. Yeah but we have to hit Matt Chico. It wouldn't be so bad a start if it was by itself, but he has done this in three of his last four now. He needs to make some adjustments. i don't think anyone is saying that hill hasn't been bad lately. he was really bad today and against the padres. i actually thought he wasn't terrible against the brewers, but he was obviously far from good. the break is coming at a good time for him.
  15. yeah, we'll see what the catcher era people have to say about this terrible tandem when the cubs start losing games 4-2.
  16. oh well, better to have a bad start and no offense on the same day, i suppose. should have seen an offensive letdown coming with hill on the mound...
  17. I think it's the right call, but Hill is leaving the curve up and hanging it. If he could bury it in the lower part he'd get the K. yeah, i was joking...hill looks terrible today. Don Sutton is saying he is tipping his curveball. good thing the cubs have a pitching coach that's all over that.
  18. Hah, why am I not surprised that suddenly made an appearance? And that it's no big deal that Hill sucks. Again. and why am i not suprised that you're making an appearance?
  19. Hah, why am I not surprised that suddenly made an appearance? And that it's no big deal that Hill sucks. Again. Cause abuck is dusty to Rich Hill's Shawn Estes. Lol. that doesn't make sense.

  21. hill's losing the BIGGEST GAME OF THE SEASON...OMGOMGOGMGOGM!
  22. geez, have every one of their hits come on 0-2 pitches? you'd think michael barrett was back there calling pitches...
  23. inserted a now-healthy willits into my lineup. i'm pretty sure that's ok...let me know if it's not.
  24. understatement of the century... really? because when i looked up soriano at baseball reference, i coulda swore lenny was one of his comparables.
  25. honestly, are cedeno's supposed bunting/baserunning deficiencies really that important? cedeno's a better defender, and i would think that would more than make up for any bunting/running differences. and if you'll remember the early part of this season, theriot was a butcher in the OF...plus, a shortage of guys who can play the OF is the least of the cubs' concerns.
