  1. i think i see what meph is saying w/ the durham/derosa stuff. just because baker bats macias leadoff and he gets three hits, it doesn't mean it was the right decision. or just because he brings remlinger in to face a lefty and he gets him out, that doesn't mean it was the right move. if the cubs trade aramis ramirez for a lefty reliever and ramirez breaks both his arms the next day and is never able to play again, that doesn't mean it was the right decision. i don't know if you can apply that logic to durham/derosa, though.
  2. yes, this is our new "strategy"...running from one base to the next. why didn't we think of this sooner???
  3. i was gonna say the cubs as a whole better be good at going 1st to 3rd on singles b/c that's all they hit.
  4. come on, no one's really giving floyd credit from going 1st to 3rd on those, are they?
  5. and you're super modest too. i kid...we're pals.
  6. more of guys easily going from 1st to 3rd standing up on singles in the gap? yeah, i guess i'm up for that.
  7. hill wasn't ready for the big leagues in 2006 either. it's just a shame the cubs can't produce a few guys who immediately come up to the big leagues and put up all star caliber numbers.
  8. biggest ASG '07 scandal since pujols didn't pinch hit. i say we replay the whole thing.
  9. it's hard to believe anything that comes out of these guys' mouths.
  10. next poll -- who was better in their prime...lou gehrig or manny trillo?
  11. while it probably won't matter for three games, why even do it for that long?
  12. Yeah, but they're still the Pirates. not to single you out on this, but this is my number one pet peeve with cub fans. over the past couple seasons, i've heard, "yeah, but they're still the pirates," "yeah, but they're still the brewers," and "yeah, but they're still the reds," etc. well, you know what, we're still the cubs. and the cubs have sucked just as hard, if not harder, than any team in the division over the past 20 years or whatever. cub fans have this odd sense of entitlement like "don't worry the brewers will choke it away." have you not watched the cubs choked away the last three seasons (and probably 20+ out of the last 25 seasons)?? honestly, reading some of the posts on here, you'd think the cubs were the braves or the new england patriots or something.
  13. at least a couple of them could hit. the cubs have three catchers who are all average at best hitters and defenders. soto may be above average defensively, i suppose.
  14. Did anyone hear the radio interview with Marlins president David Sampson when he was asked about the deal? He at first said he couldn't believe it. And then said if it were true that baseball was about to return to the ridiculous contracts that got clubs in trouble. He had a hard time believing that the 20 million figure was accurate. yeah, that was hilarious...he straight up wouldn't believe the radio host. he was about to start crying. it was as if someone just broke the news to him about pujols not pinch-hitting in the ASG.
  15. no, i'd be very happy if they finished 46-29.
  16. even if 30-31 ends up being his peak years, you can beat your sweet ass that 37-38 won't be.
  17. Hard to be bitter when your team is actually in the playoff race. oh zing...the great $100 mil cubs are a game over .500 and 4 1/2 games ahead of the $30 mil pirates. you sure showed him. And yet the Cubs are still very much in the playoff race while the Pirates are still pretty much out of it. Man I'll sure feel dumb if my team with a way bigger payroll only does a little bit better than them but makes the playoffs. Whatever was I thinking!? frankly, i'll find it pretty pathetic if the cubs win 88 games or whatever, even if they do win the division. i'll obviously be very happy that they're in the playoffs, as anything could happen, but shooting for 90 wins is a pretty pathetic goal.
  18. they didn't mention it because it's not a big deal.
  19. izturis did lead the nl in hitting for like two weeks that one time...
  20. just for something different...russ martin.

  22. except there are zero sides to this issue because it's not an issue. but if you want to get all worked up about, go nuts.
  23. i can't believe there are four pages of people griping about this. who gives a crap? everyone threw a hissy fit when the game ended in a tie, and now you're bitching because he kept a guy on the bench. it's not like he let the pitcher bat there...if you'll remember, it was the all star game, so the hitters up there were pretty good.
  24. whether you agree w/ mhuber or not, you have to respect the fact that, while trying to argue his point, he has the balls to cite statistics that directly refute his claim.
  25. the strangest part of that video was seeing a catcher get a basehit. haven't seen that in a while...
