    A stadium butted up against an airport, minimizing access points that will choke access points from all those drivers parking in the huge lots and airplanes taking off or landing every 45 seconds would be a disaster and to suggest otherwise is idiotic.

    Nobody said anything about build it and they will come. You still need a fan base that cares about the team (and can afford to buy tickets to go to games).

    Angelo's teams had a lot of real nice pieces and a combination of disaster QBs or just bad ones and they won a hell of a lot more than KC has done the past decade. It's the NFL. Everybody has some talent. But if you spend 4 years picking for a team that sucks in 3 of 4 years, you cannot say "everything you read about a guy makes you comfortable".

    Really? He came from KC and that is a talentless waste hole of an organization. I mean, I think there's some good about his history, but "anything you can read"? Come on. The guy was a strength coach at second rate colleges for most of his career. He's had a relatively brief history in the NFL. There's plenty to question about him. Not the best measure in the world, but how can you say a team that just had 6 Pro Bowlers is a talentless waste hole of an organization? Because they were 2-14 and outscored by 200 points. They went 23-41 while Emery was there. Pro Bowls are worthless, and anybody can make one. The organization has sucked balls for a long time and most recently while Emery was in charge of drafting they've continued to suck balls. People talk about the Bears lack of talent as a reason why Angelo had to be replaced, but literally nothing Emery has done in his career supports the notion that he's any better at acquiring talent than Angelo was.

How much have you read about Emery's past? Its limited since he has come from such a low key background, but stories I've read are certainly positive. Check out the War Room (about belichik). Its a great read for a football fan and Emery gets some decent mentions in the book. Specifically though he was the main force behind the Falcons picking Roddy White as one example. Anybody can have a write up with positive anecdotes. Hell, we spent half a decade listening to how many good individual moves Jim Hendry made while his team consistently underperformed what the resources should have produced. I've read about Emery's history. It's extremely limited in the NFL with absolutely nothing that stands out from an excellence standpoint. It makes absolutely no sense to say that everything you read about his history should make you feel comfortable. There is plenty about his history that makes me uncomfortable.

    It does when the question I was responding to was: You can change the wording to justify your hope in the guys' future, but what matters is the draft was poor. It doesn't take 5 years to figure that out. This isn't baseball. I've loved Emery's approach to the veterans, trading for Marshall, signing guys that needed to be signed, not caving on Urlacher's cost, etc. I applaud his willingness to make a change from Lovie despite a relatively successful season. But he had a bad first draft.

    That doesn't mean he won't be a valuable football player and doesn't have upside, which is what I was responding to. You can go ahead and call that pick a bust after one (missed) season, but with that combination of speed and size/strength, I am not willing to. You can also not like McClellin picked where he was, but that's, again, not what I responding to. He definitely has long term upside. And saying that if Rodriguez is a tight end they don't have to sign Bennett is incredibly silly, especially when the other TEs on the roster were pure garbage. The draft is about getting value at the spot of the selection. A guy who hasn't played football in a year shouldn't have been drafted where Hardin was drafted and the fact that he already missed a year just cements the fact it was an awful pick. It does not matter if a guy maintains upside in the future. Anybody who hasn't retired and is relatively young theoretically has upside. That doesn't mean you can draft them wherever you want.

    He was an obvious pick, not a good one. Teixeira was the pick they should have made that year. Hands down, no questions asked. If he was drafted as a 1B, I couldn't disagree with you more. If there was a thought he could stick at 3B or in the OF, I might agree with that. Top flight arms are so hard to find (and keep healthy) that when you have an opportunity like Prior, with his perfect mechanics and great stuff, I just don't think you can chance passing it up. You can build a solid offense without a super elite bat, but it's tough to win big without that TOR arm. They don't stay healthy, he didn't have perfect mechanics. If you could guarantee they'd both have full careers you take the pitcher. But that guarantee doesn't exist. You take the pitcher, I'll take the bat, and you will lose most of the time I will win most of the time and that is all that matters in baseball.

    McClellin? Hardin didn't even play, so I'm not sure how you can know what you have with him. Alshon, as you mentioned. And Evan Rodriguez did whatever he was asked to do well. Now they just need to ask him to do more things involving catching passes. Hardin never should have been picked where he was, he hasn't played football in 2 years. This isn't baseball. McClellin was a bad pick, Hardin was awful. Rodriguez was pointless. He's a GD fullback. If he's a tight end they don't have to go out this year and blow a wad on a free agent. The draft was bad and Emery ran it.

    I'm not seriously trying to argue in favor of Rosemont as a location for the Cubs, but why would it make it worse if you have 4-5x as many people to potentially frequent the establishments we're talking about? If you have an area around the stadium that you want people to enjoy before and after games, to draw in extra revenue, you have to be in the city. You are not going to get people to drive to a Mundelein an hour+ before the game, spend $30 on nonsense, go to the game, and then spend another hour plus after the game. A suburban stadium would only be a park, game and leave situation.

    No, people travel from suburbs into cities. For 8 Sundays a year you could get people to travel out to another suburb. But this isn't football. It's 81 days a year and a fanbase accustomed to attending the game in the city. It will be much harder to get them to go to some suburb 81 times a year to watch this team.

    A park and a parking lot Depends on how they do the parking. If they were to build parking garages instead of an open parking lot, I would think they'd have room to build a few businesses. Maybe I'm overestimating the possibilities. Edit: Just an example, the Twins new Target Field is built on an 8 acre plot. Why couldn't the Cubs do something similar? It's a baseball team, they aren't going to be building an amusement park and car wash.

    The Bears hired 8 scouts last year, and promoted others to new positions. Sure, he can say they still have many of the same scouts, but they also have a lot of new voices, and it was a significant change to the organization last year.     I don't buy this theory of "changing identity" at all. Brian Urlacher has nothing to do with the quality of the offense. His presence wouldn't have prevented them from getting better and his absence won't facilitate that improvement.

    I find it hard to believe the Cubs would move, but having the leverage can't hurt. That said, think of what the Cubs could do with 25 acres. They could build a whole lot more than a ballpark. A park and a parking lot

    What?? Since he's not very good at being a defensive end, might as well get something out of this draft pick. Why not move him to corner? Because that would be dumb since he couldn't physically handle the position.
