  1. I'm going to assume you will at some point in time bust a nut regardless of what Rizzo hits next season, so while that statement may be literally correct, it should be a case of correlation not equaling causation.
  2. I doubt that, too. Nope, I'm pretty serious. I don't think we're going to be .500 in the next two years. Too far away, too little interest and/or resources in closing the gap quickly. Yeah, not sure why this sounds crazy to people. It's pretty clear they are not going to be .500 in 2014 based on what we're hearing (Shark, Castro traded, no money for Tanaka). And it would take a pretty big offseason and quick development of former prospects at the MLB level to get there in 2015 based on what 2014 looks like at this point. What's crazy is pretending we can call it a success if the reach .500 by 2015, or that fans would be happy with that. That's crazy. It is not crazy that people expect them to keep struggling.
  3. Also that it was delayed b/c Theo wanted to talk to Lovullo first. Well, the skeptic in me would suggest that is exactly the type of PR messaging you would decide to send out upon announcing the hiring of a guy from an organization those two used to work for, when you missed out on your first and second choices.
  4. Well, there's the media and general population opinion about the situation and the opinion apparently held by just about everybody in football.
  5. You can throw those numbers in the trash, then Or you could take them for what they are, measures of efficiency without bias. Extremely flawed measures in a sport that can't be measured quite so easily as something like baseball when it comes to individual performance.
  6. If the best this team does is reach .500 in 2015 I would not call that a success.
  7. It was Jack del Rio and he did wear a suit -- it was made by Reebok. Mike Nolan was the one who started the idea.
  8. And Trestman specifically said it does not look good for this week.

  10. The NFL is a league for pussies.
  11. Who happens to be a Philadelphia sports fan. WHAT THE [expletive]. Yeah, he's from Philly. His accent isn't huge, but it's there, so my guess is he's been in Chicago a long time. Whenever it was Bears/Eagles or Cubs/Phillies he'd say something Philly-centric. But he's obviously talking about Chicago sports. Or at least he did, apparently his twitter ended in 2011.

  13. I think CTL exists in a new form that doesn't acknowledge the Tribune. He's all over CSN. I know he does the post-game show still, yet somehow Hollandsworth was actually even worse. And I blame Kaplan for essentially creating the Hollandsworth monster.

  15. Kaplan has the exact same over the top hate of Ramirez. Don't ever forget that. Oh, I haven't. Don't worry. The only difference is that Kaplan would sometimes give ARam credit for the good things he did, whereas Rozner never liked him and took any and every opportunity to take shots at the only good 3B we've had since the late 60's. Kaplan indulged the meatball hate of the jogging and bat-flipping. Rozner incited it. Make no mistake: this is a choice between bad and marginally less bad. But there is a clear gap in bad between the two, and if I could pick only one to launch via rocket into the sun, it would be Rozner. One on one I'd hand it to Rozner as well, but I can't get past the fact that I cannot avoid David Kaplan while attempting to follow the Cubs. Ever since the Daily Herald went full-on behind paywall, I have not noticed Rozner at all.

  17. Kaplan would be the Richie Incognito of his workplace if he wasn't such a pud and occasionally surrounded by men twice his size.
  18. I hate Rozner way worse than I hate Kaplan. WAY worse. This. Kaplan is an idiot. but he's a weirdly frustrating idiot in that he every shows flashes like he could get it, but ultimately he doesn't or seems to just choose not to, plus, cheesy at is, he seems to actually get excited and is positive about things sometimes. Rozner is just flat out dumb and his every opinion is ugly and negative and playing to the worst case scenario just to get people riled up. Everything is a disaster to him, and his irrational hatred for all things Aramis Ramirez is enough to condemn alone. Kaplan is a jock sniffer. Rozner is a curmudgeon. But Kaplan is ubiquitous when following the Cubs while Rozner must be actively sought out. Kaplan is worse.
  19. HAHAHA awesome. The powers that be must have been facing Rodgers in fantasy.
  20. Coming off the lockout, shortened season, extremely mediocre, they weren't really in any race due to dropping 20 games in June. They had one long streak very late to erase the sub .500 season. 90-97 was pretty much the trough of my Cubs fandom prior to this current dismal run. They were boring and not good at all. I didn't even really watch a baseball game (or at least care about one) until 95, so the strike meant nothing to me. They still weren't eliminated until the second to last day of the season, and that winning streak in late September was fun as hell. They also made that trade for Todd Zeile, which, at the time, I thought was awesome. Well you were 12 so you can be excused for poor taste. I was actually living down the street from the park that summer, and while that was awesome, I have no fond memories of that team. (with the exception of taking my now wife to a game for the first time).

  22. I hate Rozner way worse than I hate Kaplan. WAY worse. Even Wittenmyer thought Rozner's take on the situation (that this is all a big embarrassing mess and makes the FO look bad because Renteria has been the guy all along) was irrational. He thinks Renteria was the buy all along but that it's a mess? I don't get it. If their top choice is still there where's the mess?
  23. Apologize and take him to dinner? Maybe some jewelry? Oh wait, no, give him a lot of money. That's it, that's always it.
