Maybe they also are putting in a floor for the lesser guys? I think the Brewers only paid like a $2 million posting fee for Aoki. Maybe the will make a minimum posting fee of like $5-10 million? Or maybe the whole concept of a posting system could be worked around by MLB teams just signing those guys outright without paying NPB clubs any money at all.

I guess the bottom line is I don't believe in giving out long-term, big money contracts to aging veterans when they did all their best stuff for another team. That's why I pretty much hate the top end of free agency. If you find me the guy who is still yet to hit his prime (Tanaka) then I'm willing to go good years and money. I don't agree Ellsbury will end up being worth close to his contract over the life of the deal. He's got Carl Crawford written all over him. And that, in a nutshell, is what the Cubs PR campaign has been trying to convince the fans.

That doesn't make any sense, because they would still be forced to pay the guy a huge contract.

Because their PR campaign is "we'll try on a few guys but not really hit on anything because we can't afford it." Ellsbury is a very good player and you wouldn't come close to $21m for him. That is absurd. You aren't going to get very good players if you aren't willing to pay very high dollars.

That could be fun. Chicago hates Cutler (stupid people), can't imagine what NYC would think. They would welcome him as a hero and then begin to tear him apart by the 2nd preseason game. This would be terrible for me. -
And I only remember him having maybe one or two seasons that weren't sub replacement level.

No, we can't. Because there is no argument in support of doing what they did. It was stupid and indefensible.

How do you have a league that allows this? Both of those teams should be kicked out of the playoffs and let the next batch in.

That is just a whole bunch of wrong. He didn't barely miss a 66-yarder, that was caught in the end zone easily because it was way short. Gould is good, but he's not perfect. He is 65-90 in his career from 40-49 yards. He misses a couple of those every season and the fact that he had not missed one before yesterday doesn't mean he was done missing them. If it's 4th down, you kick it, but it wasn't 4th down and they could have gotten closer. Just like they could have done something more than gain one lousy yard at the end of regulation when attempting the 66-yard nonsense that never should have been attempted.

I'm not furious at the defense in this game, they probably outperformed their ability. This offense hasn't been scoring for a while now, averaging less than 20 points per four quarters since the GB game.
