  1. I think we witnessed the downside of the press getting all excited for Trestman's "gutsy" 4th down call in the previous game. He made quite a few poor decisions in this one. The early decision to skip a FG and go for it on 4th again was poor, and the entire 2-point conversion situation was terribly run. Keeping a broken Cutler in there just topped the list of many weird ones.
  2. I'm 50/50. 50/50 on your preference or on what you think they'll do? I'm 100 on keeping Jay, but yesterday looked to me like a "give him enough rope to hang himself situation." I feel like they might be looking for an excuse to let him walk. What they'll do. I think my history on this site clearly show I'm 100% in on Jay being here forever. That's what I thought, but was just trying to clarify. I do think the team may be looking more aggressively to move on than I previously assumed.
  3. I think you have a fair amount of that one-time novelty crowd, but there isn't anything wrong with that. I know quite a few fathers that have gone to Red Bulls games strictly because of the affordable "family friendly" environment. The kids generally play soccer but there isn't much passion for the red bulls themselves. It's odd though, that I live about a 10 minute drive from the stadium but really have no idea when they play, or what their upcoming schedule looks like. I would think they would be more proactive to drive interest. We drove right by the stadium last week when going to a friend's house and I mentioned that I'd like to go soon. But my 4-year old was indifferent.
  4. And they won't. The choice is very clear: pay Jay, or accept mediocre QB play next year (possibly for longer after that, too). Yeah, they're really backed into a corner with this and I have no idea how anyone could think letting him go is an option. There are people who think keeping him is not an option, so I guess I can understand the less insane view.
  5. Why was raw the only one to figure out how to answer to question in the form it was asked? I feel like there really won't be as much turnover as we may be expecting. Samardzija may be on his way out of town, but I wouldn't be sure it will happen by March. They can't accept anything less than top return for him. I'll go with 5 or 6 new guys.
  6. Well, the Bears can still probably make the playoffs if they win all of their remaining games. So it would be nice to start this week while they are still favorites.
  7. I assume you are talking about a per game basis. This is not a particularly meaningful statistic, as those tickets are priced to sell and there are only 17? home dates per season. Hockey plays 41 home dates and tickets are priced at a higher level because there is higher demand. If 22,000 people attend one MLS game and 19,000 people attend one NHL game, that doesn't tell you anything about the status of MLS.
  8. Atlanta's problem is there really is no downtown. Everybody drives everywhere there, it's very spread out and traffic is brutal. The concept of a downtown, or at least city ballpark is readily available and utilized public transportation and an area where human beings want to congregate. I haven't been to Atlanta since the 2003 playoffs, but that was my 3rd or 4th time there and I remember it was a lot like US Cellular in that there was one or two pop-up bars nearby, but otherwise you aren't staying there. Atlanta is basically one giant suburb.

  10. Wow, some if you guys are more detached than I was this season. CJ's race and position was a relatively big storyline this year. Also interested in s&t loving next to Castro. Not sure what that has to do with baseball or why it's mentioned to public though.
  11. He seems so old to me, but only 31?
  12. It's not particularly meaningful to include homegrown plus acquired using homegrown. Homegrown requires patience, acquired using homegrown is an aggressive move. And there better not be any older international free agents on that list.
  13. Great courage and a 5-year contract with no demands from above to field a winning team.
  14. Refresh my memory on the 30 Rock episode, IMDB, Google, and my memory are drawing a blank. Steve Martin?
  15. Right, the chasm between Santana wanting 100M and Santana getting 100M is the whole reason to laugh at that attempt in the first place. Why would you laugh at an athlete reaching for the most he can get in an incredibly inflated market? I'd laugh at the idiot who strives low and the teams that can't hang in the market. For the same reason you laugh at anything? I laugh at things that are funny, not business negotiations.

  17. OF COURSE you hated that episode I thought most people thought it was the weakest. I had the whole thing on my dvr and would randomly click on episodes from time to time, but don't think I've ever rewatched the Martin Short ones. I do remember thinking it was weak, but cannot remember anything specific about it.
  18. I doubt he's worried about being Wally Pipped so much as trying to prove his toughness (which fans and media have erroneously questioned before) and play for his new contract whever that might be. My point is you have to assume he's not afraid of McCown taking his job, so he's not rushing to get back. His contract will be based on how he plays for the whole season, whether that is 14 starts or 15 it's really not that much of a difference, and it serves him no purpose to rush back and potentially play poorly due to lingering health issues. So, if he says he's healthy enough to play, and the doctors say he's healthy enough to play, and the coaches say he's healthy enough to play, he is healthy enough to play.
  19. Who [expletive] in your Cheerios? Nobody, it's just idiotic to pretend that guy wasn't a douchebag.
  20. so they're free game for any fan within arm's length?
  21. Eh, nobody was hurt. He wasn't being malicious, and he gave the helmet back. Just was a bit of harmless mischief. The lady that threw her beer on Pardy was more problematic, imo. He wasn't being malicious? It took him a few tugs to get the thing off and then he stood there like Mr. Tough Guy. It was textbook drunken douchebag stadium behavior. He wasn't trying to hurt the guy or do any damage. *shrug* he just wanted to steal the helmet that was buckled onto his head.

  23. That was a bernstein joke I don't get it.
  24. I know this is probably just talk but Cutler and Trestman both said he was 100% healthy and would have no limitations during the game Sunday, meaning he would be able to scramble and throw the deep ball like normal. We will see how true that is on Sunday. Unless you think Cutler believes he's Wally Pipp right now, you have to think he's as healthy as he could expect to be by midseason. It will be two full weeks.
