    Well, I was joking. I am sure he will make a fine A ball coach one day. Wait is this a joke again? Can't tell. And are you joking about not wanting him in the organization but you're also joking about his value in being as a A ball coach or are you joking about his value in our system but you actually see his valid as a player and you're making another joke about his actual value being as a A ball coach? I just can't keep up with your joke of a post. I am serious about how ridiculous your claims were about Vitters and his clean slate and what any other team would have done about him. I am fairly dismissive of his value as a prospect anymore (actually never liked him but that is besides the point), but just joking about wanting him released. I do, however, want the Cubs to be good at some point. And since that will take several years then I guess I could go back and say I am also serious about anxiously awaiting the time when he is out of the organization, because he will be gone by the time they are good. Although that will simply be a coincidence of timing.

    If you want to, go ahead, but giving a 23 year old prospect a fresh slate due to a position change forced by his inability to field his own position, is ridiculous. You can't treat him like some 18 year old coming out of high school. The comment about "any other organization" keeping him at third is nearly as ridiculous. The likelihood that some other team would have done so tells us nothing. The Cubs are not some unique developmental organization. Lots of teams are doing smart things with prospects these days, including moving guys who can't play third base off of third base.

    What does this even mean? It's not just athleticism that makes a quality outfielder. The instincts necessary to take proper angles to the ball aren't just something born of athletic ability. And since lots of people talked about his inability to stick at 3B from the day he was drafted, I see no reason to assume they would all be trying to force him to play a position he cannot play.

    I think we're overplaying the strength of that depth if we're just going to say somebody like Jimenez can't crack the top 20. All of these guys are either unproven or what they have proven isn't all that impressive.

    Randomly selecting 2011 they were last in the AFC with 15 takeaway. Although they were second most in 2010. Both years they had a very good defense. They had 1 TAINT in 2010 and 0 in 2011. Your theory about how that works does not add up to me. The lineman are there to take up space, prevent the run and allow one or two other guys a free run at the QB. But that often involves 5 or 6 pass rushers and man coverage, which is more about preventing a successful play by the offense than causing a bad play and returnable turnover. The zone coverage is fairly important if you want to score off your turnovers. And with that you needs as many DBs/LBs in coverage as possible.

    They also specifically reiterated the "we want to score on defense" mentality, which is about disruption and turnovers rather than just being stout and stopping the offense, like in a 2 gap scheme.

    I think the majority of people who use that argument have based it on their interpretation of 80's movies.

    I made note of that too when I saw it. I still think they'll vary their schemes more than that comment suggests. The whole explanation makes it quite clear they will be varying it quite a bit. That specific quote is the writer's interpretation, although I am not sure what the motivation would be to announce you were going to be a base 4-3 defense if in actuality you will be doing mostly 3-4.

    He is not. At running the ball, no, he's not. He's good enough at that though that when combined with everything else he does, the entire package he provides is in fact elite. I do not believe so and I do not believe most others believe so either.
