What for? if bryant hits .500 with 10 home runs in spring training after hitting like 45 home runs in AA and AAA in 2014, there's already going to be immense pressure for him to start with the (major league) cubs. i don't really see how 2-3 weeks with the big club in september is going to make a huge difference. I thought the discussion was about Javy. Although it still applies to both. However much time any of these guys spend on the big club in 2014, to the extent that that time is productive, the pressure will intensify to have them on the big club. As it stands now, there is very little pressure. The majority still think of these guys as abstract concepts. Regardless, you probably should not call somebody up unless you are ready for them to stay up.

    I'd rather do that than a September callup. Yeah call him up right now, or wait until next year "Right now" has been a bit of a moving target.

    It's 310 down the line but did we actually see the ball land? I've tried like 5 times and didn't find it. I can't see it, but you can see everybody looking at where the ball presumably landed, a few feet past the fence.

    PTR may be responsible for most of it, but the front office quite explicitly said they left payroll on the table this year. well good for them! fortunately the $10-15m or whatever they didn't spend actually still exists, rather than being piled up and burned in a massive bonfire, so they now have the option of spending it in future years. I would not be so sure about that. That's generally not how businesses run themselves. That's true. But it was reported this spring that this was the first time that the Cubs have allowed their front office to roll over money from year to year, and the front office took advantage of that by not spending all their money this offseason. I think it is best to take any business/finance related Cubs story with a huge grain of a salt considering they are generally written by people who focus on batting averages with runners in scoring positions and RBI. This is especially true when you consider ownership's need to finance a major infrastructure overhaul, plus payoff politicians and whatnot.

    I can't imagine them trying to get away with blaming another manager for major league shortcomings unless he goes into open rebellion.

    The job of these guys is to field a competitive major league baseball team. These guys are in a unique and extremely safe and cushy situation with no expectations because unlikely literally anybody else they do not have a win a single game in the majors to be considered to be doing their job. These guys have an unprecedented single mandate to build up the farm system, which is incredibly easy to do when you are tanking every season and under no pressure to actually graduate prospects or use them in trades to try and improve the major league team. They are doing a good job at doing the only part of their job they have focused on, the easy part, while the only part that actually matters, the major league team, has been completely forsaken. But given that ownership has either allowed or mandated them to act this way, they can't be completely blamed for taking the easy way out and putting together garbage major league teams. I see no reason to vote yes or no on this issue.
