    So who is responsible for how good Baltimore has been? I thought these guys were doomed to failure after taking some people that used to run the draft for the Cubs, Stockstill? They've been playing at a 90.6 win pace for the past three years.

    While we need to spend on pitching, hitting is still a need. Yes indeed. If the strategy is to have an awesome offense and a stable/okay pitching staff, then they are still a very long way away from having an actually awesome offense.

    what witch hunt? poor tom being poor tom more like it. a conservative slum lord behaving like one. I was one of the first Ricketts haters here. All I meant by witch hunt is GW spends every article around finding new ways to bring up Ricketts cheapness. Maybe witch hunt was the wrong wording, since its true. Maybe you just notice the articles where he points it out.

    They shouldn't sign him for next year because they aren't going to be good until next year? This is why I don't listen to sports radio. They shouldn't sign him for next year because they aren't going to be good until at least 3 years from now, according to that quote.

    I was thinking of Upton, but he doesn't fit the OP's criteria of only having two more years. Not many do, though. Given that, here's what I come up with that have a rough contract fit: Andre Ethier (2017 + Option, $18M/18/17.5) Curtis Granderson (2017, $16M/16/15) Matt Holiday (2016 + Option, all at $17M) Nick Swisher (2016 + option, $15M/15/14) Michael Bourn (2016 + option, $13.5M/14/12) I'd trade Jackson for any of those, no cash exchanged. The Mets aren't trading a hitter for substandard pitching, and nobody is taking Jackson without actual relief.

    Josh Hamilton Not even close to equivalent deals. Hamilton is at $23M/30/30 through 2017. taking on money is the only way to go. (it was just the first name that popped into my head)

    This is not at all true, they feel targeted because they are one of the teams using these different angles to exploit the rules and the loopholes keep getting closed on them. They feel targeted because they have invested millions in the Dominican academy and next year was their next turn to blow their load on the international market. It's not like they just joined the game and it got shut on them, they were one of the teams that started the trend and were among the most heavily invested. Uhhhhh, no peg. Many other teams have been doing this stuff long before the Cubs started. Ricketts was relatively quick to see the problems and invest, and Theo was aggressive going after these things once he was hired, but the Cubs were very much behind other teams.
