  1. In the real world you don't know all the candidates for such a job. There aren't dozens of websites ranking these dudes and talking about their achievements. So you hire consultants to provide you with that list, likely to make initial contact with those candidates to gauge interest and in some cases due a little background digging to make sure there is no funny business reason why you should ignore an otherwise qualified candidate. In football I do not see why it is necessary, but if you are George it is probably prudent to do so. So, The Boys aren't trusted to their own judgement by Mama? Or by The Board? The company line is that George has a better understanding of the football world now than when he took over (he was in charge of tickets before becoming Chairmen) and that understanding made him realize he doesn't know enough. So he chose this. He is the Chairmen of the Board, so, presumably he made this decision.
  2. That is their stated preference yet they left open the possibility that they would do otherwise depending on the HC candidate, which I would bet was a recommendation from Accorsi in the event they got attached to a BIG NAME CELEBRITY COACH. The caps is what I thought initially but Gase and Bowles don't fit that criteria... I definitely don't care they reach out and do some due diligence, but I don't want the inadvertently choosing their GM based on the prior preference they built up for a HC candidate. I do not believe the timing of interviewing potential HC candidates is at all related to the flexibility reference above.
  3. Because Phillips and mccaskey aren't football guys and their last search firm they brought recommended Emery. McCaskeys family OWNS a football team, Phillips has been in the business since like 2000, how are they not football guys? He's been in the business a lot longer than that. He became president in 1999 (or whenever Michael was ousted by Virginia) but he was with the team since the 80s and I think he was Cliff Stein before Cliff Stein was Cliff Stein.

  6. Some guys can only be interviewed now or you have to wait for weeks. It is perfectly reasonable that they would interview these guys to get the process started so that once a GM is hired they will only have to let him interview these guys again. It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored. Actually, that does make sense given playoff teams. But it's still not an excuse for them leaving Emery in the chair up until Monday. I believe it took them longer to realize Emery was part of the problem and I am fine with that timing. They did it on Black Monday and the fact that they didn't need time to review in the offseason is fine enough with me.

It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored. given this organization's history of ineptitude with these things, i have a hard time believing they're doing something that smart. if they are, sure, it's great. It has already been reported that this is exactly what they are doing.
  8. Kyle Long cannot stop tweeting out daily affirmations at least thrice daily since the season ended.
  9. Are you surprised? This is the same thing me and WF22 were complaining about. They don't have a football guy at the top, they don't follow a proper chain of command. Phillips and mccaskey have their hand in the cookie jar regardless if Accorsi is there or not. Jesus you're an irrational loon.

  11. Jimmy Haslett is now available.
  12. Peyton Manning has a strong relationship with Jimmy Haslam? Why? Big ties to Tennessee. His brother is the Governor...his college roommate is a Senator...big donor to the athletic dept...was apparently on the board of directors for University of Tennessee Athletics. Ahh, bell ringing now.

  14. Looks like pretty solid contact with the ball to me.
  15. If he was a CFL exec before but has been in the NFL for the past 10+ years, he's got a leg up on Trestman.
  16. Of course it was good; but he was going to run into the same wall. Yes, but I was responding to the person above who claims we all remember lovie wrong.
  17. I wanted lovie gone because of his defense 1st special teams 2nd offense last mentality and his inability to win enough. But it's revisionist history to suggest the defense was anything Less than quite good.
  18. Yes. I think a pretty significant part of the reason the defense fell as far as it did was coaching and, given what we've heard about the Lovie guys not buying in, probably motivation to some degree. The other major reason was a ton of injuries which, who knows. Butterfly effect and such. I think the 2013 defense would have been better with Lovie, but the offense would have been worse and they would not have won enough.
  19. This may be the craziest thing you've ever posted here, and that's saying something. Lovie's teams won because of the defense. Lovie's focus was on the defense. The defense, however, would not have been immune to the wall of age it ran into if Lovie stuck around. If anything, Lovie got out at the right time because last year probably would have been even worse under him. They had successfully cycled through top defensive players while not bottoming out in the past. Tommie Harris, agunleye, alex brown, vasher, mike brown etc. lovie was good at getting guys into his system. I have no doubt the defense would have continued to be better than average. He shuffled news guys into his system but he did not do that at all in the latter half of his tenure. That was a big part of the problem. Starting with the 2007 draft he had more influence and it backfired.
  20. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 23s23 seconds ago Bears have requested interview with Broncos OC Adam Gase for their HC vacancy, league source confirms. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 22s23 seconds ago Bears' interview with Gase would have to take place in Denver this week or wait until after Broncos season ends, per NFL rules.
  21. It had something to do with it, because he did ignore it in the draft. He went 5 years without a linemen taken in the top 4 or 5 rounds. That is just too long to ignore 45% of your starting offense that regularly uses 6 or 7 guys in a season.
  22. Suh suspension OVERTURNED
  23. Yes. The problem was not that Angelo "ignored" it. His first pick was an OT who was probably on pace to be decent before breaking. They spent a lot of money on free agents. They actually set-up a good like but those guys also fell apart and Angelo failed by being content with the line for several years and not providing a steady stream that would be ready to step in when the old guys died. He spent more 1st round picks on OT than any other position.
  24. He was asked to give input on the next hire and the Bears chose the guy he listed last (if story is true). It's kind of weird that he was asked but if you are asked and they go a completely opposite direction it makes perfect sense why you would be upset and is really weird that you don't understand.
  25. and might hire Trestman.
