    Turning 60 and assuming he's not being paid by Denver that would be a huge gamble by him.

    Fox could be viewed by them as a sort of transitional object. The team is a mess and the last administration was apparently very unprofessional. Fox could be brought in to clean all that up, perhaps. Yeah, the Ricky Renteria of the Bears? Not really. I get the idea and theoretical value of a total pro coach with all sorts of ties to other pro coaches and the theoretical ability to assemble a high quality staff. I'm just not sure Fox actually is that type of guy.

    I'm guessing Schottenheimer outperformed the hell out of Fox on a W/L basis for the first ~2/3 of their respective careers. Did Marty have more than 1 or 2 losing seasons, ever?

    Fox basically greased his skids on the way out of both Carolina and Denver. Sort of the same stuff the Doug Marrone hit pieces referenced.

    I'm not quite ready to hate it either. But a conservative defensive minded coach with very limited offensive abilities/connections who turns 60 in a month is probably not getting the most out of this roster for a few years.

    you make it sound like a 15 minute play. Catch ball get feet in (depending on whether sideline/endzone/midfield) and maintain possession while going to the ground. It's really freaking simple. If you fall, you have to hold the ball.

    I'd rather have Shanahan. A quick glance at Fox's past staffs isn't all that impressive.

    That is not necessarily true at all. Lots of people stretch for yardage at any point on the field. It's not just a goal line situation. You're probably right that I can't assume he wouldn't have stretched. I still feel like that qualified as a 'football move', though, if that's still a thing. You can't just make the move, you have to maintain control through the move.

    Back in the day, contact with a blade of grass could "cause" an incomplete pass. But they changed it so that if the guy had control it did not matter if it made contact with the ground. What matters is maintaining control and Bryant did not maintain control. The ball was in his hands, hit the ground and popped out of his hands. Reestablishing control after the bounce does not matter because contact with the ground and that contact leading to the loss of control, makes it incomplete that instant.

    Well, if the catch yesterday happened as Bryant was heading out of bounds, he wouldn't have reached the ball forward for the end zone. My scenario could be in the middle of the field. So, if the player gets greedy with his ball control it's catch? I'm confused what your point is. Just looking for clarification. the point is you can tap two tows on the sideline fall out of bounds and have the ball hit the ground as you go down and its a catch. But if you do it in the middle of the field its not. That seems contradictory I don't think your point is accurate at all. Getting 2 feet down is not the end of the story. Maintaining control is the key. If you go to the ground out of bounds and the ball pops lose, it's no catch.

    the rules are so skewed in the favor of the offenses I fail to see how people can pretend it is somehow unfair to force a receiver to maintain a catch as he falls to the ground.

    You'd think any bad blood would only be between Emery, but even that wouldn't be so much bad blood as just awkwardness. The Bears let him walk for a lateral move when they really didn't have to. They really had to. You can't interview the guy for HC, eliminate him early in the process and then force him to stay on as an assistant under the guy that beat him out.

    As I recall they did not get along and both wanted out of the "relationship". I do actually think the things he's done to protect Luck would help Cutler. Play action, vertical game. However I'm not sure he's a guy who's gonna come in and get respect and manage all 3 phases. I suppose with the right staff I could get around to him. The key to somebody like that is the staff around him. If he can bring along some more established assistants the leadership thing should not have been a problem. Has Pep gotten any interview requests so far? Obviously he hasn't been able to take an interviews but you'd think you might hear about interest if any team did have interest. Raiders and Bills requested and/or already spoke with him.

    2 years as Stanford's OC and 2 years at Indy isn't really a ton for a 40 year old.

    I'm so bummed. There isn't a coach out that that I actually want to be the head coach.
