  1. I'm fine with failed NFL coaches, but failed college head coaches? I don't see much upside in him. He is not considered an offensive guru by anybody. He's had one really good season as an OC in his career (2004) then failed upward.
  2. Never a bad idea to hire former head coaches as your coordinators. I'd guess Trestman does fine in this role. His problem was a complete lack of leadership skills.
  3. If I had to guess I think it is more about making do with what his options are at the moment.
  4. With the tendency for teams to always hire the antithesis of the guy they just fired, it's interesting to note just how much Pace differs from Emery on the college scouting side of things. For one, Pace was a pro personnel guy and Emery came from the college scouting side. Unlike Emery, Pace seems to be distancing himself from the college scouting aspect of the job. As far as I can tell, Pace seems to be putting all the college scouting responsibilities on the guys that worked the job under Emery. Didn't he just hire his buddy from NO to take over that side and report to him? Plus, IIRC, he has a special method and metrics they will be using to evaluate talent, but it was too late to implement it by the time he got hired. The guy he hired was from the pro personnel side. He replaced Emery's pro personnel guys but officially at least, the Bears still have the same guys running the college scouting side.
  5. Certainly not at the level we are today, but as a former player he must have known to some extent what the game does to your body over the long run. Yeah, but everybody knew and thought nothing of the fact that you'd need a replacement hip and new knees. They figured all old people got that stuff eventually anyway.

  7. I doubt Mike Ditka was all that aware of potential future consequences for players when he was coaching.
  8. Plotting privately? Isn't that just called looking to trade up?
  9. Yeah, and apparently he had the Pace hire earlier too... Yeah but that Ty guy who never actually breaks anything says he's a fraud. He tweeted after that that it was just a joke, that he's actually friends with him. Is it me or did this guy not actually report that they hired Fangio? It seems like he kept saying he thinks it could happen despite other people saying it won't. But that is not the same thing as saying it happened.
  10. Oh, I thought he was the guy with the really short batted balls distance.
  11. What is Lake's appeal? He's completely changed his stance at the plate and has been a walk machine in winter ball. I'm not convinced it's going to have any real effect on his MLB performance since he's still striking out a ton, but it changes the possibility of him being more than worthless to non-zero. hitting for significantly less power too Is that possible?
  12. That is just amazing At the time, I thought it was a smart move. In hindsight, unless you're more proven or you know for sure you have another move secured, you can't do this. I thought he had the Jets job locked up. That was the most effective media hatchet job I've seen in quite some time.
  13. I don't really get that impression of Howie at all. He's no Joe Buck.
  14. At what point does Howie "I Did It the Right Way" Long tell Kyle to STFU? Why would that be his response to either of these positive and excited Tweets? Either he misinterpreted "goon squad" and "down" or he's just referring to prior Kyle Long twitter issues. I don't really think any of that stuff was meaningful or problematic.
  15. Mel Tucker is trending on twitter (not Fangio). People are viewing this as the Bears "finally firing Tucker" and while I get the jubilance that he is gone, it is really weird to me how many people thought Tucker was going to keep his job.
  16. is a DB's coach different from a secondary coach? or maybe one of them would be changing roles, i guess. I'd like to know why Hoke is so widely respected, when this team has had such trouble with its secondary.
  17. I hate "super utility" even more, since it's a variation of the already silly utility guy.
  18. Depends on if it has been well fed with nacho cheese sauce and thick onion gravy. I've been a lurker for a few years. Can someone point me to the origination of the "thick onion gravy" meme? viewtopic.php?p=2090310#p2090310 how did that not get responses?
  19. Above average starter is not a broad statement. 4th - 5th starter is a significant distinction, although it's not useful since there isn't a list of "4th-5th starters" to compare to.
  20. Maybe wait a bit longer on that one. Yeah, I think the answer is no, it cannot.
  21. Most likely, but what happens if there's a bad snap and GB gets the ball? Or GB is able to put up a great stand? Both scenarios are very unlikely, but can happen and would cost you your season. You can't take that chance. and what happens when you play GOD who wears a #12 jersey? you dont, if you can avoid it. You arent going to beat Rodgers with over a minute left in the game and all three timeouts, no matter how good you think you might plan and when your top CB is hurt
  22. GB had ball for 100 minutes and scored 19. This is all Seattle d.
