  1. No. He's like Lovie who is just a point A to point B coach. What is a point A to point B coach?
  2. at 34 I'm not expecting an uptick in CF defense.
  3. not that time what a horrible QB.
  4. I really hope so another player would be nice though.
  5. took me a while but I figured out this was Chris Denorfia. John Baker @manbearwolf · 31m 31 minutes ago Chris Denorifa to the @cubs ? Deno is one of my favorite teammates of all time! The Cubs fans are going to love him. Enjoy him Chicago.
  6. two incredibly sloppy teams
  7. Ole Miss not looking hot
  8. per the earlier discussion, Brad Biggs talks interviewing HC candidates without a GM in place. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-coaching-gm-search-20141231-story.html
  9. Dan Pompei ‏@danpompei 32m32 minutes ago Vikings asst. GM George Paton is staying in Minnesota. Will NOT interview with Bears or Jets.
  10. The reason I say 26 is just because it is the week after CC games and before SB so most candidates will be available by then. It's a default pick more than anything.
  11. some great tweets coming out about how horrible Bruce Allen is.
  12. But they didn't have a coach search going on at the same time, and that was generally considered a lengthy process as I recall. I thought the head coach search was considered lengthy. Weren't there like 18 candidates?
  13. Good point. I guess I figured with so many roles to fill we might move a bit more quickly this time. It's worth something, but the vacancy from HC down through assistants (realistically though not formally) probably calls for a slightly faster timeline than in 2012. Yes, I was just trying to note that. Trestman was hired January 16. I would think the GM would be hired prior to January 16 this year and the HC would be hired around the 26th.
  14. FWIW, Phil Emery was announced as GM on January 29, 2012.
  15. Yeah, I'm guessing not this week.
  16. Um, I disagree. There's been more GM candidates mentioned in connection with the Bears thus far. Yeah, they are moving on both fronts. I'd bet we will have a GM by Friday or Saturday and a coach a week or two later. I'm guess we don't see a coach until the pro bowl week.
  17. The simple fact that he was a head coach before (and is an offensive minded coach) pretty much negates any concept of him being "same old Bears".
  18. In the real world you don't know all the candidates for such a job. There aren't dozens of websites ranking these dudes and talking about their achievements. So you hire consultants to provide you with that list, likely to make initial contact with those candidates to gauge interest and in some cases due a little background digging to make sure there is no funny business reason why you should ignore an otherwise qualified candidate. In football I do not see why it is necessary, but if you are George it is probably prudent to do so. So, The Boys aren't trusted to their own judgement by Mama? Or by The Board? The company line is that George has a better understanding of the football world now than when he took over (he was in charge of tickets before becoming Chairmen) and that understanding made him realize he doesn't know enough. So he chose this. He is the Chairmen of the Board, so, presumably he made this decision.
  19. That is their stated preference yet they left open the possibility that they would do otherwise depending on the HC candidate, which I would bet was a recommendation from Accorsi in the event they got attached to a BIG NAME CELEBRITY COACH. The caps is what I thought initially but Gase and Bowles don't fit that criteria... I definitely don't care they reach out and do some due diligence, but I don't want the inadvertently choosing their GM based on the prior preference they built up for a HC candidate. I do not believe the timing of interviewing potential HC candidates is at all related to the flexibility reference above.
  20. Because Phillips and mccaskey aren't football guys and their last search firm they brought recommended Emery. McCaskeys family OWNS a football team, Phillips has been in the business since like 2000, how are they not football guys? He's been in the business a lot longer than that. He became president in 1999 (or whenever Michael was ousted by Virginia) but he was with the team since the 80s and I think he was Cliff Stein before Cliff Stein was Cliff Stein.

  23. Some guys can only be interviewed now or you have to wait for weeks. It is perfectly reasonable that they would interview these guys to get the process started so that once a GM is hired they will only have to let him interview these guys again. It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored. Actually, that does make sense given playoff teams. But it's still not an excuse for them leaving Emery in the chair up until Monday. I believe it took them longer to realize Emery was part of the problem and I am fine with that timing. They did it on Black Monday and the fact that they didn't need time to review in the offseason is fine enough with me.

It's a lot better than not showing any interest in them and allowing potential candidates to be ignored. given this organization's history of ineptitude with these things, i have a hard time believing they're doing something that smart. if they are, sure, it's great. It has already been reported that this is exactly what they are doing.
