  1. Maybe because he was only the GM for two years of his tenure here? Get your facts straight. You definetly work for the Tribune company. Why, because I told him to get his facts straight? Those are the facts. MacPhail was Cubs GM from July 2000 to July 2002...TWO years. I just happen to pay more attention to the business side of the game because it fascinates me. That doesn't mean that I work for Tribune Company. I think the responses to my post shows why I don't have a lot of posts for the number of years that I have been a member of this community. And why is that exactly?
  2. I'm sure there are a few knuckleheads in our system that MacPhail is in love with. Dopirak, Harvey, and Luke Hagerty for Tejada? Doesn't the OPS drop (100 pts) YTD vs previous two years norms and the fact that he's owed $31MM over the next two season's bother anyone? I'm just not sure the cost that it would take to acquire him at this stage of his career would be a wise move to make. Not when that OPS is 200+ points higher than our current SS rotation sits at.
  3. After several years where the Cubs stressed the "ability" to play several positions over the ability to play any of them well, while still producing, it is rather refreshing to have a guy who isn't a drag on the roster.
  4. I'm all for a future 2B situation where Theriot, Fontenot and Patterson battle it out, but I'm not that interested in saving money by giving DeRosa away at this point. He's needed for 3B help, he's needed for RH pop help as well. I'd like to see him be the guy playing RF when Floyd sits for the time being. I'm nowhere close to being in the mood for dumping everybody for an overhaul. Maybe if they stay right where they are I'll be in the mood on July 31st, but there's no reason to trade DeRosa now.
  5. I think the same should be said about the Cubs. The White Sox are 10.5 games out with 3 teams to climb over, the Cubs are 6.5 with 1 team ahead of them. The White Sox are in a free fall and have a worse record than the Cubs while playing in a tougher league and division, and have an expected w-l that suggests things could get even worse. The Cubs are treading water in a winnable division and have an expected w-l record that suggests they could be a bit better than the record. I don't think they are in the same boat.
  6. The only way I see them trying to sell high is if the team falters but he keeps playing well, and they get further out of it. They've had a nice stretch, and I don't see them dealing Abreu now. With Giambi's situation a mess and lacking any real 1B, I think they will try and hold onto him for the duration.
  7. hummm........... thats interesting. I thought for sure he would at least finish the year in the pen. what are his numbers in relief? I thought they made it clear he was going back to the rotation some time this year, but I wasn't thinking it would be this soon. According to his page on milb.com, he had 4 outings, totalling 7 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 ER, 2 K and 2 BB.
  8. His personal website says he is starting tonight. So what was that, 4 outings from the pen over 2 weeks. One thing this does is put a little bit of a limit on the number of innings he'll be racking up this year, his first full season of pitching. Considering his previous high was about 130 innings, last year, and that was quite an increase from 2005, I wouldn't want to see him get much more than 120-130 this year. Hopefully he's able to turn things around as a starter during the 2nd half of his season.
  9. 5-5 in their last 10. That probably is hot in the NL Central.
  10. That is one of many reasons why it is absurd to have a 13 man pitching staff. 12 is bad enough. Now that Rapada is gone and it's back to a 7 man bullpen, you might see him used a little more frequently. But I'm thinking he'll be back down in a week or two.
  11. Jones faced lefties all the time last year and he sucked against them. Yep.
  12. For a half-season rental of Adam Dunn, that's absurd, especially when the Angels don't neccesarily need Adam Dunn for anything other than giving Guerrero some stress relief on the power. I would guess any big money AL team looking for offense that would trade for Dunn would be more than happy to sign him.
  13. DeRosa playing right now is the best way to keep Fontenot in the regular rotation, while resting Floyd, avoiding his incentives and getting decent R/L matchups. I like.
  14. I think they are turning the corner IMO. As long as Izturis and Jones don't play and ARam comes back soon we will be fine. Our bullpen has been much better as of late. I'm leaning toward turning the corner. The offense has hit a bit of a lull, but at least they are scoring 3-4 runs with regularity, instead of a lot of 0, 1 and 2 run games. If they can win this series, I like their chances of gaining ground by the time Milwaukee comes to town. They could just as quickly turn around the wrong corner, but with Milwaukee failing to step on the Cubs throat a couple weeks ago, they are definitely in it.
  15. Let's give them Veal, Izturis, and Wade Miller. Sounds good to me. Sub Pawelek for Veal.
  16. The players are mad at the bleacher fans and trying to hurt them now.
  17. cuz the cubs shelled out a lot of money for utility man A good utility man, and not a ton of money. I'm glad Fontenot is here, but I'm also glad that DeRosa was here.
  18. This guy is booted and I think the last one was too. Interesting - they boot him but it wasn't fan interference? Technically it was interference, the umps just didn'tal it. Both times a guy reached over into the field of play and redirected the ball. So if people want the batter called out because that fan redirected the ball, shouldn't they demand Lee be called out for redirecting a ball that wasn't going out?
  19. True, but the first one was right IMO. Yeah it was. But, the odds that the home team gets neither is pretty long. Not really. Those calls are very difficult to see and very rarely made.
  20. If you are going to edit, at least change are to our..... :D
  21. it's 89 with a heat index of 326 in the Iowa City metropolitan area gotcha all beat with 111 here in phoenix Gorgeous in NY, low 70's, sunny, no humidity. Good thing too, since I had to wear a suit today. Don't take too kindly to 80+ with humidity in a suit.
