  1. I've been. The skanky ho's with daddy issues pull that stuff, not most others. I'm at the beach every weekend in one of the most morally casual places in the country. That stuff doesn't just happen all the time. It only happens with skanks.
  2. The easiest way is to hit the quote button that is on the upper right corner of the post you are quoting.
  3. Theriot has shown that the more he plays the worse he gets. He's been awful for the past week. His May wasn't any better than Izturis's May. Neither player is an everyday shortstop. Each is capable of having semi decent stretches. I think the only hope is to see if Lou can have the magic touch in terms of who he uses. That's a bunch of malarky. Has he been slumping? Yes. Does that mean that he will continue to get worse the more he plays? No. If you were just being colorful in your language then, fine, but otherwise, that's an incredibly unfair and inaccurate statement. The slump he has been in lately has been a bad one, but it doesn't completely discount the rather excellent 200 ABs that came before it. That said, do I want him to be the Cubs starting 2B of the future? No. I think EPatt can be that, if he can handle it defensively, and if not EPatt then DeRosa can do a better job holding it down with Theriot being the supersub until someone better can be produced. Theriot had a nice start to 2007. But look at his May, it's no better than Izturis's and I believe the OBP is even worse. He's been bad for a week. He is not an everyday guy. He's a utility player. Utility players that play everyday see their numbers decline.
  4. I wished they signed him when he was a free agent. I should have been more pro Tejada when trades were discussed, but I'd take him in a heartbeat now. Baltimore's record is no worse than the Cubs, but they are free falling and way out of the race. I can't understand why they wouldn't be up for trading him. Do you really think Peter Angelos would deal that team's only marketable player now that there's competition for fans in the DC area? I don't really think he's all that marketable. We aren't talking Jeter here, let alone Jose Reyes. He's probably less marketable than Soriano. They aren't selling tickets because of Miguel Tejada, #12 in the majors for SS OPS. The team stinks, it's stunk for years. They need an overhaul. Angelos is goofy, so maybe he won't. But the smart thing would be to trade him and try to build a contender for 2009-2012. That's how you sell tickets. And really, are the Nationals that big of a draw that they are taking away ticket sales?

  6. The Cubs have a black hole at SS this year. Last in the NL with an OPS of 555. And before you say Theriot has turned that around, his OPS at SS is 474. Fontenot doesn't play SS. Neither is "good enough" to make this team better. They are 13th in RF and 12th at catcher. The other positions are middle of the road or near the top. The best way to improve this team is to improve the production they get at SS, RF and C. Since it's going to be impossible to improve at C, the choice is finding a real RF or a real SS. They currently do not have either. There is a chance that when all is said and done that a platoon of Floyd and a revitalized Murton will put them at least to middle of the road at RF. As for SS, they basically have zero chance of getting respectable production out of the group they currently have in the fold. But there's no stat to account for Theriot's scrappiness... 8-[ So you would rather have Izturis start over Theriot? I would rather have a real SS. Barring that, the only real option is to try and get the most out of a Izturis/Theriot platoon.

  8. Isn't he significantly bigger than Peterson?
  9. Are the standings and pitching probables manually updated? I figured that was done automatically somehow. Somebody always posts the previous days' minor league scores and today's matchups. I figure there has to be a way to link those to the front page, no?
  10. That was far from "debunking a myth". Jon gave an alternative explanation for the way those splits broke down(career year in Washington, not very good in Texas, not enough ABs in other spots), but I think that ignores that his spot in the order could very likely be a causal factor in that. After 4 teams in 4 divisions in both leagues, I think it would be foolish to cast it aside altogether. I think it's foolish to pay any attention to it. He's done better in different spots at different points in his career. He's not a leadoff hitter. But he's going to hit leadoff for the next few years until he loses a step and then toward the end of the contract he'll be a 5th hitter. So we might as well get used to it.
  11. That is the big question. They can't go long with Eyre on the roster and a manager who is unwilling to throw him in anything resembling a close game.

  13. I love him at 3rd string and special teams, not as the primary backup.
  14. Every union in the country is anti-testing. The MLBPA is about the strongest union there is. They were not going to allow testing until the public demanded it and congress got involved.
  15. Wrong. Steroids were against the rules, they just didn't have testing. There was no teeth. But the union wouldn't allow any teeth. Selig doesn't have much authority over those people. The owners do. But having authority isn't the same as knowing what was going on and doing something about it. If you work for a large company with offices in several states, and you do drugs, who is most likely to know? The secretary who holds your calls when you are "unavailable", the manager of your location who sees you on a daily basis, or the CEO 1000 miles away? And Bud isn't even a CEO. He's got very limited authority because he's an employee of the owners. People just like ripping on Bud because it's the fashionable thing to rip on leaders. The fact of the matter is Bud couldn't do a damn thing about the steroids problem, and no matter what he does to fix things people are going to criticize him.
  16. But hasn't Seattle killed lefties this year? I thought I heard something about them being 16-3 against lefties. Well, actually they are 6th in OPS overall in the AL, 6th vs lefties and 6th vs righties. The Padres are 13th overall in the NL, but 5th against lefties and 15th against RHP. So yeah, I have to agree. Why not throw Lilly today, then open with Marquis and Zambrano against the Pads with Hill going Sunday. I'm kind of surprised they didn't do anything with the rotation after the back to back super short outings.
  17. I don't feel any sympathy for him. Sure he ignored it. Home Runs = interest. Interest = ticket sales. Ticket sales = wealth. It's not entirely Seligs fault, but he had the opportunity (and the responsibilty) to do the right thing. Of course Selig is to blame for ignoring this problem. And now that he's trying to force an admitted steroids abused to talk with the investigators of face possible suspension he's a bad guy? The over the top hatred of Selig is absurd. I think clubhouse people, managers and GMs are far more to blame for the problem than Selig. And the players are most to blame, with the union part of that group. They all had a better chance to know exactly what was going on.
  18. That would certainly be interesting. Would they carry 4 RB's? I think he would be good insurance in case of a Benson injury (I think he'd do a better job than Peterson would) but do the Bears have space to roster him? Peterson and Wolfe are both likely special teams players, which helps with roster issues. I don't think 4 RB is overkill, as long as the guys are contributing.
  19. I think this guy would be a nightmare here. The bars are always open. But Farnsworth already knocked up all the single chicks.
  20. That would certainly be interesting.
  21. I honestly don't think he should start everyday. He should get most of the starts, but I think the more he plays the more he's exposed. I'd rather he play 4-5 times a week than play everyday. I see him getting into a huge rut if he starts 10-15 straight.
  22. I don't think it can said any better than that. I seriously doubt Giambi will "rat" and cross the Player's Union. There's almost no doubt that he will plead the 5th and take the criticism - a path that will surely label him as uncooperative and guilty. I think it is laughable that Bud Selig is taking this position. He is the "Commisioner" that turned a blind eye to all this P.E.D. abuse, and now he is taking the high road and encouraging players to cooperate with the Federal Investigation? Selig and the ML brass, in my opinion, are the ones who need to be in the spotlight - not the players. After all, the players never did anything that was against the rules of MLB - did they? Selig can't win. He ignores it and he's to blame. He tries to fix things and he's a hypocrite.
  23. Giambi doesnt have a ring. DOH! For some reason I thought he was on the last Yankees Series team. Probably doesn't help that "Yankees" and "World Series" has been an automatic channel changer for me. Nope, the Yankees last WS ring was prior to their big spending increase. Back in the mid 90's they actually weren't even the highest paid team (Baltimore was). When they did take over 1st they were just slightly ahead of others. And during that run they did it almost exclusively with home grown products in the lead. It wasn't until they started going after the biggest free agents that they stopped winning titles. Mussina and Giambi were the beginning of the end of the titles. Of course, it's not like the team actually got worse, they just stopped winning titles with those guys.
  24. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6337 I'm all for firing Hendry, but what does this story have to do with it?
