  1. His personal website says he is starting tonight. So what was that, 4 outings from the pen over 2 weeks. One thing this does is put a little bit of a limit on the number of innings he'll be racking up this year, his first full season of pitching. Considering his previous high was about 130 innings, last year, and that was quite an increase from 2005, I wouldn't want to see him get much more than 120-130 this year. Hopefully he's able to turn things around as a starter during the 2nd half of his season.
  2. 5-5 in their last 10. That probably is hot in the NL Central.
  3. That is one of many reasons why it is absurd to have a 13 man pitching staff. 12 is bad enough. Now that Rapada is gone and it's back to a 7 man bullpen, you might see him used a little more frequently. But I'm thinking he'll be back down in a week or two.
  4. Jones faced lefties all the time last year and he sucked against them. Yep.
  5. For a half-season rental of Adam Dunn, that's absurd, especially when the Angels don't neccesarily need Adam Dunn for anything other than giving Guerrero some stress relief on the power. I would guess any big money AL team looking for offense that would trade for Dunn would be more than happy to sign him.
  6. DeRosa playing right now is the best way to keep Fontenot in the regular rotation, while resting Floyd, avoiding his incentives and getting decent R/L matchups. I like.
  7. I think they are turning the corner IMO. As long as Izturis and Jones don't play and ARam comes back soon we will be fine. Our bullpen has been much better as of late. I'm leaning toward turning the corner. The offense has hit a bit of a lull, but at least they are scoring 3-4 runs with regularity, instead of a lot of 0, 1 and 2 run games. If they can win this series, I like their chances of gaining ground by the time Milwaukee comes to town. They could just as quickly turn around the wrong corner, but with Milwaukee failing to step on the Cubs throat a couple weeks ago, they are definitely in it.
  8. Let's give them Veal, Izturis, and Wade Miller. Sounds good to me. Sub Pawelek for Veal.
  9. The players are mad at the bleacher fans and trying to hurt them now.
  10. cuz the cubs shelled out a lot of money for utility man A good utility man, and not a ton of money. I'm glad Fontenot is here, but I'm also glad that DeRosa was here.
  11. This guy is booted and I think the last one was too. Interesting - they boot him but it wasn't fan interference? Technically it was interference, the umps just didn'tal it. Both times a guy reached over into the field of play and redirected the ball. So if people want the batter called out because that fan redirected the ball, shouldn't they demand Lee be called out for redirecting a ball that wasn't going out?
  12. True, but the first one was right IMO. Yeah it was. But, the odds that the home team gets neither is pretty long. Not really. Those calls are very difficult to see and very rarely made.
  13. If you are going to edit, at least change are to our..... :D
  14. it's 89 with a heat index of 326 in the Iowa City metropolitan area gotcha all beat with 111 here in phoenix Gorgeous in NY, low 70's, sunny, no humidity. Good thing too, since I had to wear a suit today. Don't take too kindly to 80+ with humidity in a suit.
  15. one more biscuit for breakfast. Good to see Lee waking back up.
  16. This is a load of crap and you know it. Barrett has been one of the premier offensive catchers over the last two years. La di freaking da. He's been a good hitter and terrible defender. The vast majority of his career has been abysmal, and hopefully his time on the Cubs is near its end. But heaven forbid we say anything bad about him because we owe him so much for the greatness of the past 2 years.
  17. I'm appalled by watching him play the game. That's funny. The last three years, he's been one of the very few reasons to watch the Cubs, and two bad months into the next season, everybody says they can't stand him. Barrett haters remind me way too much of Yankee fans... that whole "what have you done for me lately?" crap. It's disgusting... and it's certainly not befitting of a Cubs fan. Cubs fans on this site that have that attitude like cubbiechris make me sick to be a cubs fan. If a guy has been nails for you for 3 years, you don't throw him under the bus. The same thing happened to Z. It IS disgusting. and Pathetic. I don't like being associated with those types of Cubs fans. I love Z. I love Barrett. That doesn't mean we don't have the right to be upset with how they're playing. There is a difference between being upset with how someone is playing, and being an ungrateful Yankees fan. complete ignorance. Yankees fans complain when a 97 win team doesn't win the World Series or when a league wide MVP doesn't establish himself as a true Yankee. Cubs fans complain when a crappy player like Barrett comes back to earth after a few decent seasons and contributes to a team that's been miles under .500 while he's been here. Man, I can never understand the stupidity involved in order to call Cubs fans ungrateful.
  18. It just makes good baseball sense to take a pitch after a guy has issued a walk of course, Barrett has never been accused of having Baseball "Smarts". No, good baseball sense would be to sit dead red on a fastball over the plate since Wells really doesn't want to fall behind a hitter with the bases loaded. The problem is not with him swinging, it's just that he failed to recognize that it wasn't "his" pitch. David Wells isn't going to groove one out of fear of falling behind.
  19. What a load of crap. Barrett has been a decent hitter most of his time as a Cub. But he's been a moron the entire time he's been a Cubs and he's been a first pitch hacking fool over and over. What has he done for us lately? Nothing. What has he done a while ago? Very little. The team has sucked with Barrett as catcher. Is it his fault? No, but his crappy play contributes to the struggles and he's guilty by association for being on this team in the first place.
  20. I find it funny how melodramatic this statement is. Appalled? Wells isn't known for being wild. That right there should tell you something. For one, he's not going to groove the first pitch because he's afraid he'll walk the next guy. That's what a Kyle Farnsworth might do. His first pitch is going to be his pitch, the one he wants you to swing at.
