  1. I wonder if Lou understands that rarely pitching will have an effect on your location. Wuertz has not been good, but he's given up 3 walks in the last month, and his BB rate for the year is 3.55 per 9, not good, but certainly not terrible. Kevin Hart was much worse while up.
  2. Missed 24hr cutoff. Bronx is on the clock... Where are we in the order? I'm going to be off the grid for a few days.
  3. They might be a vintage Favre year away from the Super Bowl, if the line is at least above average.
  4. Other. Only occasionally. Oreos have never done it for me. The cookie part just isn't all that good. I don't hate them, but I've never craved them.
  5. I know there were rumors of the Cubs being interested, even going back to when he's a Oriole, but if the team has interests in Erik, they need to back out now. I believe Brenly once said, managers loves pitchers who fight them over the ball. Managers loves pitchers who don't want to come out of the game (I believe he made a comment like this, in Z's first start off the DL, when he pull Z, and on camera, you can see Z fighting to stay in the game). And Bedard is the kind of pitcher, who won't fight the manager. So, if the Cubs do indeed continue to shop for another starter, I would stay away from Bedard. I don't care if managers like guys they have to fight for the ball. Prior and Wood said they could stay in games and Dusty let them and that didn't work out too well. I have no problem with a pitcher who knows his limits. If you can only give me 5-6 strong, fine. I read something from a scout saying Bedard (or maybe it was Harden) isn't the type of guy who can finish a game for you. To that I say, so what? The only people that finish games are Roy Halladay and closers. 6 innings is pretty standard. 6+ is well above average. Give me what you got for however long you have it, then get out of the game. I don't need you being a hero and coming out to get another guy in the 7th, then surrendering a couple runs.
  6. It's the rat right? http://www.pictureitdigital.smugmug.com/photos/175885160-M.jpg http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_488787.jpg
  7. Yeah, it's starting to look like it. He's done a tremendous job overall and really helped with Soriano out. However,'s he's got a 640 OPS in July, just 318 over the past 7 days. He probably needs a long rest. Hopefully he's got another spurt in him, but if he continues on the recent trend his overall Cubs numbers are going to fade quickly, and it may become necessary to callup Pie in a few weeks.
  8. I just like that the title suggests something could happen soon, with soon being the end of the trading deadline, which is about as far away as anybody could reasonably expect a trade to be made.
  9. are you whining about fans overestimating a fly ball?
  10. he's actually not. sometimes he looks horrible against them, but overall he's been solid against lhp. Alright, alright. I get it, he's really not. But those times he is terrible looking, it makes one forget the times he's not. And why not? Gaudin may as well join the "BP" parade too. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the way he looks bad when he looks really bad. For a guy who usually at least gives you a solid PA, he almost seems to give up on a few of them.
  11. he's actually not. sometimes he looks horrible against them, but overall he's been solid against lhp. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY
  12. .280 vs LHP compared to .289 vs RHP, with OBP of .378 vs .397.
  13. These posts confused me. I definitely saw the poll. It wasn't during Dunn's at bat. I left during Phillips' AB. nevermind How did Ronny reach on a force attempt throwing error?
  14. Has there been a series against us where he hasn't homered. Probably, but he's got 23 HR against them since 2005.
  15. When Jon Lieber pitches a ball to Adam Dunn, it gets hit and stays hit.
  16. Lou decides what relievers are used. Of course he has the final say, but my point is that if Piniella delegates bullpen decisions to his pitching coach moreso than most managers, and I've read plenty to suggest that's true, then shouldn't Rothschild bear some of the blame for abusive usage patterns? I don't know what kind of decisions you think he delegates, but Lou decides who goes in the game. Sure, Larry could probably do more to protect his young arm, as he's never shown an inclination to do that with others. But the responsibility lies with Lou.
  17. The last time he was "finally hitting" the Cubs acquired him and he sucked again. He's 30 something and having a career year at home. He's been horrible on the road and there's really no good reason to try and trade for him.
  18. I keep reading about going to the local bar for games I can't see at home. Am I missing something? Why does a bar get games that I don't? No. There will be no local bars showing it either. People outside the Chicago area are screwed when it comes to Saturday baseball and the Cubs. Really? I've watched FOX games that would otherwise be blacked out at bars before. Yeah, I can't believe that's true. My bars carry out of market games. Most every bar carries out of market games. The question is specifically about out of market games on Saturday afternoons. I know I've been to bars on Saturday afternoon trying to catch a Cubs game instead of the typical Mets, Yankees or Phillies game, but it's unavailable. That includes local dive bars, as well as espnzone and Champs types places with tons of feeds. The clincher vs Houston in 2003 annoyed the hell out of me.
  19. Not to mention the start of a 3.5 day off stretch at the end the of the game on Sunday. Not for Soto. He's catching the entire ASG? WTG, Geo! He is flying to NY, dealing with all the surrounding issues, and probably catching 4-5 innings. The fact is it's not off days. Henry Blanco is the one getting off days.

  21. Marmol has been used 3 days in a row 5 times, and he's been used in 3 out of 4 days 9 times. I guess I just don't think that's all that much for your 2nd best reliever. How many high pitch high stress outings has he had? We can't just use outings when it's convenient to use outings. It's high stress high pitch outings that should be MORE concerning right? How often in general, do the best relievers on their teams get used 3 days in a row and 4 out of 5? Is this normal. I don't have that data and I'd be curious to see it. I realize your point in that I don't remember what Lieber and Wuertz look like, and I don't think you've ever been ridiculous in portraying your views on this subject. I feel you are one of the most objective posters on this board and I appreciate that. Marmol is still on pace for 85 appearances, which is at the top of reliever appearances in most years. So, he's being used as frequently as anybody in baseball, which is a lot. The innings are down a little from when he was on pace for something like 85/105, but his frequency is still very high. It's a risky move with any reliever, especially one with a young arm.
  22. Lou decides what relievers are used.
