I had a moderately good feeling about Dempster, in that I thought he might be able to put up decent #3-4 starter numbers. He's been much better obviously. But the question is going to be durability. Can he thrown 200 innings this year, and then can he comes back and throw 200 next? I say either go for broke with him and then let him walk, or be slightly conservative and limit his innings down the stretch while talking to him about an extension. The Cubs are going to need arms next year, and even if they let him go, they are likely to go after another Marquis type pitcher spending $7-10m per on some mediocre starter. Dempster has shown, to do, that he's capable of more than mediocre. And he's been a good soldier. I'd strongly consider bringing him back, if he makes it through this year healthy, and still effective.
