  1. It's silly to think he can't do anything in the majors, but it's not silly to think of him as well past his prospect years. He's not going to add value via trade. Although the fact that others haven't picked him up in rule 5 really only proves they didn't want to try and keep him on their rosters for a full season. He could be a throw-in, especially to the type of team that could benefit from an older guy with no service time who could possibly give them 3 extremely cost effective seasons.
  2. That's up to .360/.520/.570 after last night. Looking at his splits, there's not a single one with OBP < .500. If he had enough PA's to make the league leaders (he's had 3 stints on the DL), he'd be 2nd in AVG, 1st in OBP and OPS, 4th in SLG. I don't care what he's hitting, the boy's got to work on his versatility ability before I'd even consider adding him to the major league bench. If he can't play CF or 2B, he's nothing to me.
  3. Certainly a refreshing change from years past. But it's "par for the season" in 2008. Cubs lead the NL with 340 BB, STL is in 2nd with 337, but they also lead the Cubs by 7 in IBB. This version of the Cubs has been incredibly patient, and it's the single most satisfying "little thing" about the way they've gone about playing this year.
  4. Are there specific criteria that need to be met to be able to put a guy on the bereavement list?
  5. Missed 24hr cutoff. Hosak on the clock... Seriously the shenanigans never end. Who the hell is checking their draft status at 1030 at night on a friday and then over a summer weekend?
  6. 3-1 It was 3-0, according to Gameday. It was 3-1 according to Gameday and the guys on the radio.
  7. 3-1 I know Ronny hit it well, but when you are down 6 you should take two on 3-0. why? He got a pitch to hit and it was 3-1. Why go to 3-2 when you can hit 3-1 hard?
  8. He never had one before coming to the Cubs. His improvement was drastic and the decline equally so. It probably makes sense. It's just odd that the drastic increase and drastic decrease coincided so closely with his arrival and departure from the Cubs. I'm not implying anything...I don't know why it happened, I don't know if the park, or the coaches, or whatever had anything to do with it. I just find it curious. his peak ages
  9. They don't miss Lincecum. At this rate, they might seriously consider calling up Samardzija for bullpen help. Eyre is MIA, Lieber will be burned today. They are going to use at least a couple more arms. well that'd be a good way to ensure that we lose some more games by lopsided margins. They almost have to callup somebody. Not much to choose from, and he is on the 40-man roster. It's either him, Piggy, or Ascanio. Hart is concussed, right?

  11. If Lee was anywhere near Pujols' league it wouldn't be a big deal. But Pujols is an extreme contact hitter who regularly OPSs over 1000 and has a career OPS+ of 169. Lee has one season over 1000 and is a career 124 OPS+. He's also not nearly the contact hitter that Pujols is. He's a lot more like a 2 hitter or 5 hitter than a 3 hitter.
  12. These guys are trying to scare the crap out of Rose on the radio.
  13. stone thinks it should have been a double and error. From the sounds of things it had to be a single and error right?
  14. The first time through, I agree. But since the callup his PA have looked solid. He's also OPSing over 1000 in the past week, 5K 4BB.
  15. 12 AB in the past week for a 1000 OPS. He's not playing "so much" but he's done well.
  16. Delgado with a grand slam and the Mets are winning 11-4. Good thing Jeter sacrificed in the third inning, he should probably do it a couple more times.
  17. really? the first place, best record in baseball 2008 cubs remind you of the 96-loss 2006 cubs? sorry, dudes, but it is really, really hard to stomach these threads. try enjoying the season a bit. He's just saying he gets a weird feeling right now. Haven't you ever gotten a creepy feeling in real life where you feel like something is wrong even though nothing is? You people are weird.
  18. These radio guys sure do love the ole "productive out".
  19. Caddyshack 1941 i thought it was platoon The Longest Day Used Cars
  20. That heady Jeter fella bunts right back to the pitcher and will get applauded for the sacrifice.
  21. I would guess it's partly that and the fact that 2 pitching coaches with great reputations have both just gotten completely frustrated with him because he wouldn't listen to them. I think that's mainly it. He has a reputation of, after one semi-successful year with a team, he gets an attitude that he knows it all and doesn't need coaching. That was reportedly the case with both Atlanta (Mazzone) and St. Louis (Duncan). I agree that this is the main reason. He also sounds very smug sometimes, during interviews. That's just the Long Island accent.
