  1. There is a feature right in the middle of the page. There is, but I can't help but agree with Mizzou here. Why the hell isn't it the main story? I know football is more popular in this country than baseball, but wtf is a run of the mill football story in September doing as the main story over a Cubs no-hitter in September? Man, people sure do like to whine. The lead story on ESPN.com changes all the time. I would bet Z's no hitter was right there at one point. It's got it's own little feature with multiple story links right in the middle at the top of the front page. Quit bitching and enjoy the moment.

  3. Me neither. I'm not sure I'll feel comfortable about any game they play this year.
  4. Tampa is nothing special, and they are on the road against a team that may or may not win 8 games. 3 points is not much of a line, and the Bears are 2-0 against the spread. If Tampa was favored in this game, the public would have been heavily on the Bears. I could see this one narrowing as the week goes along though.
  5. What has changed? I was on here 3 years ago saying a new stadium wouldn't be bad and was thoroughly and completely lambasted for it by pretty much everyone on the board. Maybe you were suggesting one of those horrible suburban ballparks. I could live with no Wrigley. I would not be able to stand for a field in the suburbs where everybody has to drive miles to attend and park in some shopping mall lot and the local hangouts are an Outback Steakhouse and Chotsky's.
  6. I wouldn't call this Bears team the extreme opposite of the Cubs. Right now we don't quite know. They could be, and quite possibly should be, 2-0 with 8 home games to go. What's most likely is this is a team a game or two above or below .500.
  7. Screw you Olsen and Turner! Alright, now I got that out of my system, I would have taken 1-1 going into the home opener before the season started. After the high of week 1, this was a much better indicator of where this team is at. The defense is very good, but maybe not dominant. The offense is capable of showing life, but overall a clear weak spot. Orton can do some nice things, but has significant limitations. The Bears are 3 point favorites against a tough, but not special Tampa team. If this is going to be a playoff season, this is a game the Bears have to win. They are 2-0 against the spread, for what that's worth.
  8. Good thing MLB made a decision and was able to get the Astros out of town before the hurricane hit. Oh wait... This is all on McClane. Houston only has their idiot owner to blame for not making the decision in advance. They could and should have travelled on Friday, no problem.
  9. Olsen, you're cut. Turner, you too.
  10. Actually he is hitting just like he used to. He had one fluke season in the middle of his peak years. He's well past that peak and will most likely remain well below his peak numbers going forward. Why is this so hard for people to understand/accept? He's probably capable of multiple hot streaks that could last a month or more at a time. But DLee 2005 is never coming back, and he's most likely never going to look anything like that again.
  11. BREAKING NEWS!!! :-)) Anyway, I took the 3.5 points this weekend. Last weekend completely went against my expectations. But I'm not going as far as saying they will do the same this weekend. If they do win this game though, winning the division is well within their grasp.
  12. High school males dressing in drag for a talent show. Wait, I think I've seen this one before. Hasn't every single high school class included at least one instance of this? The look on Paul Byrd's face cracked me up. He was like, "But that's a boy, wearing woman clothes? What in the world, why would somebody do that?"
  13. You need to get past that now.
  14. Absolutely not.
  15. But if they have to play all three, there will still be guys forced to play when rest would be preferred.
  16. It's a bit overboard to claim he's not the same pitcher. This is the what Harden has to do to keep pitching. Dial it back at times, get some extra rest, leave games early. He did it before coming to the Cubs and he's been doing it since joining the Cubs. So if this is a playoff game, do you think he's hitting 93 consistently? If it's the same long layoff in between? Probably not. If he pitches in the playoffs on 5-7 days rest, I'm sure he'll be dialing it up when needed.

  18. So, it appears that if the games cannot be played in Houston on either Sunday or Monday, which I find highly unlikely, the games would be made up at the end of the season if needed. Great have fun playing the Iowa Cubs. Sorry Brewers. Here's the problem though, if they have to play 3 games after the season and the Cubs have already clinched, sure the Cubs would rest the regulars. However, you still need 3 starting pitchers, and probably several relievers. You can't expect anybody likely to make the postseason roster to pitch more than an inning or two. Marshall probably can't be a starter then. You'd need to go with Wells, Hart, Howry, and maybe a couple others. They only have 5 OF on the roster right now, 4 of which are regulars. So you'd probably start Pie, but then you'd need Fuld up as well, then Hoffpauier. Ward, Fontenot, Cedeno and McGahee across the infield, with Hill and Blanco catching. But you'd be asking these guys to play 3 games in 2 days, and at any point somebody could be hurt and force you to use a regular player. Anyway, for the Cubs sake, they better hope they play at least one game against Houston this weekend, and probably two. Playing one meaningless game after the regular season would not matter, but playing multiple, or god forbid playing ones that matter, would absolutely suck.
  19. Haven't seen or heard it either.
  20. maybe 70, honestly. a 120 pound closer with a violent delivery and numbers trending the wrong way? where do i sign? I would agree with the 7 not 70...The guys numbers might be getting worse, but getting 55 saves means your doing something right. Saves are the new RBI Antonio Alfonseca
  21. Honestly, that does make a lot of sense having them play at a neutral stadium. I don't think it does. They need to do something that generates revenue. That will not happen at a neutral site. Play it in Chicago, sell out games, let Houston bat 2nd and take home the gross profits.
  22. That's a long text.
  23. I don't like the Miller move at all. He sucks. Bad ankle my butt. He's old, was mediocre at his peak, and sucks now. Why cut a potentially promising line prospect for this type of depth? Sure, Barton could be added to the practice squad, but then you just have to cut another practice squad guy to make room. If Fred Miller plays, he's going to suck, so how in the hell does he provide depth?
  24. The Cubs will win a lot of games in October. :oldbluekoolaid: 11 at the most
  25. I'm not so sure. Perhaps if they do something like lose every day from here on out that would be possible. But I think just building this level of excitement is enough to get people hooked. Looking at what the Cubs did, their collapse in 2003 was at least as painful as what the Brewers did last year. Then they go out and collapse in 2004. Ticket sales still went up. People got hooked. The Bears sort of came out of nowhere and became a dominant force and it's not like people just stopped caring about the Cubs, hell, they even had the CWS winning and that didn't put a dent in the Cubs fan base. Now, I know Milwaukee is different. But MIL is also very far from GB and the only thing close to a successful home team. As long as they stay competitive, I think they've done enough to build on. There will be some backlash, but as long as their owners don't cut back drastically, they will be able to succeed in the long run. They will have to get rid of Yost and make some moves, but they should be able to convince the fans to stick with them.
