  1. Those are not knocks on his value as a prospect, they are knocks on the Cubs. They traded away a commodity for a piece of crap expensive ballplayer. They didn't have to put Nolasco into their rotation to get value, they could have traded him for somebody who didn't suck.
  2. Why not Nastia? She won the all-around. commie blood
  3. They wouldn't have the money under the current budget, but that depends on what the new guy does (and if they can get guys like Marquis out).
  4. the only guy that matters is a cub
  5. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/sports/14234451/detail.html I guess this is what I remembered.
  6. Does the team with Home Field Advantage actually get to choose their dates? I figured they were pre-set and picked by the league (TV). I vaguely remember something about the #1 seed getting to choose which series they wanted to play. I'm not sure if that's accurate or if it's still the case, but I believe last year Boston or Cleveland got the choice of playing the series that started on Wednesday or Thursday. Maybe this year it's the NL.
  7. It's just a slump, as I said on page one when everyone laughed at me. We'll be fine. People laughed at you because you arbitrarily removed about 11 runs of production from a 5 game span to justify calling it a slump.
  8. http://www.executivefishingcharters.com/dusty-bass.jpg What I don't get is, I never thought Dusty really liked Patterson all that much before. I guess it has to do with his "I have to see a guy to know what he's like" theory (as opposed to believing what the stats already tell us about the player).
  9. I'm looking forward to watching the starters. I'm done when the backups come in though. should be 3 quarters.
  10. Call me crazy, but I'm looking forward to watching the game tonight. I don't expect to enjoy it, but I really like watching football.
  11. The guy is so incredibly smarmy... you can just tell he thinks he's the funniest man alive. I don't recall your views on him (you may not have posted them), but I find this sentiment ironic considering Keith Olbermann, who might be the most egotistical prick in the entire universe, is getting a lot of praise in here. I can't watch his Countdown show for more than 50 seconds before finding something to get pissed about. Keith and Dan both seem to be pretty egotistical now. I didn't get that sense 10-15 years ago (whenever they started doing SC). They came across then as far more egotistical than Kenny Mayne ever has.
  12. For who? Edmonds is old and brittle and might be losing his briefly refound luster...Johnson is not good against righties...Fontenot could easily regress with more playing time, plus any little boost you'd get in hitting is likely offset by the sharp decline in defense. THE HOFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. A jazzy catcher to backup the salsa maestro currently behind the plate.
  14. Nothing like getting excited for an "in play, run(s) scored" with Lee batting and assuming it was a GIDP.
  15. I think it's more accurate to say hitters you like and hitters you don't like, because your definition of great hitter appears to be quite arbitrary.
  16. I wouldn't have been fine with anything for Pierre. The Harden trade showed this type of marginal prospect can be thrown into any package for a significant upgrade, they held more value than Pierre then and they still do now. Pierre epitomized some of the worst aspects of the organization: irrational desire to fill "needs" that don't really exist - leadoff hitter ignorance of the things that make a hitter productive - walks, obp inisistence on overpaying for veterans to do the same job a cheaper player could do
  17. Wow, nice find. That really makes me like Cerda a lot more. The funny thing is I clicked on the article just to see how this kid made Almonte cry. When I saw the name I thought it sounded familar, but it didn't dawn on me until I saw the mention about the Cubs scouting him.
  18. Anybody know if the catcher thing is sticking? When you search his name on milb it says position: OF. When you click on his name it says DH, and in the most recent box scores I saw he was listed at DH. I assume this is because the catcher defense is a work in progress and that he does that on the side while playing DH to get at bats.
  19. Isn't it more like the NBA and WNBA? Softball and baseball are quite different.
  20. I had no idea. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=cerda&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos1 http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Matthew%20Cerda&pos=OF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=543016
  21. Did you really just try and show the team was slumping over the past 5 games by removing the 3 highest scoring innings from those games?
  22. That's only if they get the Wed/Fri series though, right? Is that rotated between the league's and determined by the #1 seed? I don't know if I want to try and throw Harden twice in the division series. First of all, that likely means going with the bullpen early. Secondly, it also likely means extending him in back to back games, which I'm not excited about. I'd much rather use him as a potential game 1 starter in the NLCS, in which case I'd start with Dempster, Harden, Zambrano and give Lilly a start as well. Dempster could come back in a potentail game 5 matchup, and you can start Harden on a little extra rest in game 1 of the NLCS, and then thrown him in game 5 or 6 as well. The guy most likely to throw 8-9 great innings is Dempster. He is the guy you try and give extra starts to. He's also the one guy you don't owe millions to next year, so it's a little easier to risk his arm for the short-term benefit.
  23. No one is saying Lou is blaming Fukudome for the entire lack of offense. But we lost by 1 and he clearly called out Fukudome's AB for not picking up the RBI with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs. It's not a stretch to say he's putting a hefty amount of blame for the loss on Fukudome. I think that it is quite a stretch unless there's more context than the snippet provided in the first post. You don't know what question he's responding to, or if he talked about other failures before or after that quote. I'm not sure how you can call it a stretch.
  24. Usually keep 6 WRs right? Davis, Hester, Lloyd, Bennett are the locks. I'm assuming Hass is the 5th if Booker or Bradley could lose out on a spot. They're keeping 4 RB's probably though. The reports are that there will be 5 WR's, and that either Booker or Bradley will get that spot. I haven't even heard Hass in the discussion. I don't know why they'd keep Booker over Bradley if they think Bradley is healthy...why not see what you have with him? Which RB gets the axe? Have you heard anything on that? I've heard something pretty scary, but it was just speculation. Speculation is they'll keep all 4. Forte, AP, Jones and Wolfe. AP plays special teams too, so they can justify it that way. Plus, they are inexplicably holding a roster spot for Williams, which means they need an extra spot for a lineman. The best case scenario is he will miss half a season. Why not just IR him and have him concentrate on being ready for 2009?
  25. I long for the day when athletes are never interviewed They interviewed the US runner last night that finished 2nd to Usain Bolt but was DQ'd, and he came off like a jerk, but considering he'd just found out that he was DQ'd and was not getting a silver medal, that's understandable. My wife and I were both pretty ticked that they'd interview him right then. Terrible. When did you find out? Just now. What are you going to do? Protest. You are going to protest? Yeah, why not? I don't think he came across as a jerk. I think he came across as a guy who was coming to grips with losing a race.
