  1. Hank Aaron is a small part of a group that has been in the bidding from the beginning. He's just a face, along with a couple other guys, on the board of a company whose sole purpose is to try and buy a sports franchise.
  2. What are you using to project that number? Edmonds/Johnson aren't one player. They have played at the same time. Combined, Cubs CF have 87 RBI this season, which is on pace for 108 RBI for the season. just going by ESPN.com's projection that Edmonds will have 65 and Johnson will have 62. I realized they've had overlap You shouldn't then say that Cubs CF are on pace for 127 RBI. Technically, I didn't. I said that Edmonds and Johnson combined are on pace for 127. None of the other positions are played exclusively by the players I listed either. It's just semantics The thread title is 6 positions on pace for 90+ RBI, and you cited the CF platoon in your first post. It looked to me like you were insinuating that the CF position was on pace for 127. Also, not all of Edmonds RBI have come as a Cub. I don't think it's semantics, I think it's a good bit unclear. Although they were quite different prior to coming to the Cubs, it would be akin to including Harden's K totals with the A's in the Cubs total K totals.

  5. Not sure how what your definition of beast is, but I don't see how anybody could assume Soriano would be one. A SLG heavy sub 900 OPS, with a 124 OPS+. There's a fair amount of LF in the NL performing as good or better than Soriano, and who is to say that his rate stats would be as good as they are with more playing time. It's quite possible the time off actually helped keep him fresh and he may have gone through his traditional cold spells in the games he didn't play.
  6. I wouldn't have predicted quite that good, but he was well on his way to doing something similar. And I expected Dempster to provide a heck of a lot more than Hill has provided. That is why, on a net basis, the upside/downside surprises are offset, and in actuality, the two combine for a little less than expected.
  7. Angelo is signed through 2013, Lovie is signed through 2011. My guess is 2008 would have to be an utter disaster of a season for either to lose their job before 2009. If they lose 11-12 games, perhaps they will feel the need to make a change, but more likely than not, they will be given an opportunity to show improvement in 2009. Lovie still has a very good overall w-l record as head coach, and the Bears never show a quick trigger finger. The sad thing is, this team could be really successful if they could just achieve mediocrity on offense. Slightly below average would probably be enough for them to at least challenge for a playoff spot. I do think this could be a make or break year for Ron Turner's NFL future. If the defense is good, the offense stinks and the overall record is subpar, my guess is they will give Jerry and Lovie a chance to move forward with a new offensive mind at the helm and what should be a considerable amount of fresh blood on the offensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, by the time that happens, they will be in dire need of fresh blood on defense.
  8. Those are not knocks on his value as a prospect, they are knocks on the Cubs. They traded away a commodity for a piece of crap expensive ballplayer. They didn't have to put Nolasco into their rotation to get value, they could have traded him for somebody who didn't suck.
  9. Why not Nastia? She won the all-around. commie blood
  10. They wouldn't have the money under the current budget, but that depends on what the new guy does (and if they can get guys like Marquis out).
  11. the only guy that matters is a cub
  12. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/sports/14234451/detail.html I guess this is what I remembered.
  13. Does the team with Home Field Advantage actually get to choose their dates? I figured they were pre-set and picked by the league (TV). I vaguely remember something about the #1 seed getting to choose which series they wanted to play. I'm not sure if that's accurate or if it's still the case, but I believe last year Boston or Cleveland got the choice of playing the series that started on Wednesday or Thursday. Maybe this year it's the NL.
  14. It's just a slump, as I said on page one when everyone laughed at me. We'll be fine. People laughed at you because you arbitrarily removed about 11 runs of production from a 5 game span to justify calling it a slump.
  15. http://www.executivefishingcharters.com/dusty-bass.jpg What I don't get is, I never thought Dusty really liked Patterson all that much before. I guess it has to do with his "I have to see a guy to know what he's like" theory (as opposed to believing what the stats already tell us about the player).
  16. I'm looking forward to watching the starters. I'm done when the backups come in though. should be 3 quarters.
  17. Call me crazy, but I'm looking forward to watching the game tonight. I don't expect to enjoy it, but I really like watching football.
  18. The guy is so incredibly smarmy... you can just tell he thinks he's the funniest man alive. I don't recall your views on him (you may not have posted them), but I find this sentiment ironic considering Keith Olbermann, who might be the most egotistical prick in the entire universe, is getting a lot of praise in here. I can't watch his Countdown show for more than 50 seconds before finding something to get pissed about. Keith and Dan both seem to be pretty egotistical now. I didn't get that sense 10-15 years ago (whenever they started doing SC). They came across then as far more egotistical than Kenny Mayne ever has.
  19. For who? Edmonds is old and brittle and might be losing his briefly refound luster...Johnson is not good against righties...Fontenot could easily regress with more playing time, plus any little boost you'd get in hitting is likely offset by the sharp decline in defense. THE HOFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. A jazzy catcher to backup the salsa maestro currently behind the plate.
  21. Nothing like getting excited for an "in play, run(s) scored" with Lee batting and assuming it was a GIDP.
  22. I think it's more accurate to say hitters you like and hitters you don't like, because your definition of great hitter appears to be quite arbitrary.
  23. I wouldn't have been fine with anything for Pierre. The Harden trade showed this type of marginal prospect can be thrown into any package for a significant upgrade, they held more value than Pierre then and they still do now. Pierre epitomized some of the worst aspects of the organization: irrational desire to fill "needs" that don't really exist - leadoff hitter ignorance of the things that make a hitter productive - walks, obp inisistence on overpaying for veterans to do the same job a cheaper player could do
  24. Wow, nice find. That really makes me like Cerda a lot more. The funny thing is I clicked on the article just to see how this kid made Almonte cry. When I saw the name I thought it sounded familar, but it didn't dawn on me until I saw the mention about the Cubs scouting him.
  25. Anybody know if the catcher thing is sticking? When you search his name on milb it says position: OF. When you click on his name it says DH, and in the most recent box scores I saw he was listed at DH. I assume this is because the catcher defense is a work in progress and that he does that on the side while playing DH to get at bats.
