Actually he is hitting just like he used to. He had one fluke season in the middle of his peak years. He's well past that peak and will most likely remain well below his peak numbers going forward. Why is this so hard for people to understand/accept? He's probably capable of multiple hot streaks that could last a month or more at a time. But DLee 2005 is never coming back, and he's most likely never going to look anything like that again.

It's a bit overboard to claim he's not the same pitcher. This is the what Harden has to do to keep pitching. Dial it back at times, get some extra rest, leave games early. He did it before coming to the Cubs and he's been doing it since joining the Cubs. So if this is a playoff game, do you think he's hitting 93 consistently? If it's the same long layoff in between? Probably not. If he pitches in the playoffs on 5-7 days rest, I'm sure he'll be dialing it up when needed.

So, it appears that if the games cannot be played in Houston on either Sunday or Monday, which I find highly unlikely, the games would be made up at the end of the season if needed. Great have fun playing the Iowa Cubs. Sorry Brewers. Here's the problem though, if they have to play 3 games after the season and the Cubs have already clinched, sure the Cubs would rest the regulars. However, you still need 3 starting pitchers, and probably several relievers. You can't expect anybody likely to make the postseason roster to pitch more than an inning or two. Marshall probably can't be a starter then. You'd need to go with Wells, Hart, Howry, and maybe a couple others. They only have 5 OF on the roster right now, 4 of which are regulars. So you'd probably start Pie, but then you'd need Fuld up as well, then Hoffpauier. Ward, Fontenot, Cedeno and McGahee across the infield, with Hill and Blanco catching. But you'd be asking these guys to play 3 games in 2 days, and at any point somebody could be hurt and force you to use a regular player. Anyway, for the Cubs sake, they better hope they play at least one game against Houston this weekend, and probably two. Playing one meaningless game after the regular season would not matter, but playing multiple, or god forbid playing ones that matter, would absolutely suck.

Honestly, that does make a lot of sense having them play at a neutral stadium. I don't think it does. They need to do something that generates revenue. That will not happen at a neutral site. Play it in Chicago, sell out games, let Houston bat 2nd and take home the gross profits.

I don't like the Miller move at all. He sucks. Bad ankle my butt. He's old, was mediocre at his peak, and sucks now. Why cut a potentially promising line prospect for this type of depth? Sure, Barton could be added to the practice squad, but then you just have to cut another practice squad guy to make room. If Fred Miller plays, he's going to suck, so how in the hell does he provide depth?

I'm not so sure. Perhaps if they do something like lose every day from here on out that would be possible. But I think just building this level of excitement is enough to get people hooked. Looking at what the Cubs did, their collapse in 2003 was at least as painful as what the Brewers did last year. Then they go out and collapse in 2004. Ticket sales still went up. People got hooked. The Bears sort of came out of nowhere and became a dominant force and it's not like people just stopped caring about the Cubs, hell, they even had the CWS winning and that didn't put a dent in the Cubs fan base. Now, I know Milwaukee is different. But MIL is also very far from GB and the only thing close to a successful home team. As long as they stay competitive, I think they've done enough to build on. There will be some backlash, but as long as their owners don't cut back drastically, they will be able to succeed in the long run. They will have to get rid of Yost and make some moves, but they should be able to convince the fans to stick with them.

I was trying to figure out that last part as well. Giants are SB champs (and have a huge following), while STL has been a decent draw over the past decade and was expected to contend this year. What you should be complaining about is what CBS is offering up at the same time, Oakland/KC for half the country.

i would have flipped if he was made to bunt. like i did when Derosa bunted. or like i did last night when soto bunted. Really? And you people call yourselves NL Baseball fans. I call myself a Cubs fan. And since doing something like that is incredibly stupid and detrimental to the Cubs, I don't like it. The fact that it gives old timers stiffies by reminding them of the good ole days when baseball was played the right way makes no difference to me.

Yeah, that's gonna hurt. How old is he? Does he make a comeback or just pack it in and retire? Guy has to be in his mid-30's I'd guess. He's 37. I think his days as an elite closer are pretty much done. He should pack it in. At that age, is it really worth it to come back for a year, maybe two, with possible limited effectiveness? Retire and enjoy the rest of your life, Billy. He'd be able to enjoy the rest of his life more if he didn't retire, and kept taking the Mets $10.5m next year.

I would agree he's got a chance, at least for his prime years, to produce at, or just above, the 800 OPS level.
