Bush averaging 12 pitches per inning. I hope this strategy doesn't carry over much longer, that's probably the worst thing about facing Sheets - they move away from the formula that has worked all year. -
You hope our starting SS does bad so you are right? Don't think .299 is bad, do you? It's worse than .300. But it's not bad, and he said I was hoping he'd do bad. he has to do poorly in order to get down that low Would he? He's at .302... Yes, he'd have to go 0 for the next 6-7 abs and then maintain the pace, which isn't good. But I'd just like to say there shouldn't be any discussion about whether or .299 or .303 batting average is good or bad.

Shouldn't you hope he gets hot and finishes at .320? I was one of the biggest anti-Theriots out there, but this is stupid. Theriot has struggled a lot the past month or two, doing what he did most of last year. But I hope to heck he comes through with a few more magic singles before the end of October because he's a Cub and I want them to do well far more than I want my predictions about him to be right. I'd much rather be wrong about him.

you are on the internet, look it up yourself. Have you ever followed along on GameCast? It's not always very clear. I am right now, and it's a lot better than begging other people to give you updates because you don't like how they post on game threads.

lol WTF are you talking about? This is what happens when you sit around not pitching for extended amounts of time. I think the loss of command is just due to lack of work. I really would like to see him pitch every 5th day from here on out. He's going on 5 days rest right now. If you have him pitch on "normal" rest he'd next throw at NY on the 23rd, then at MIL on the 28th. Which means he'd next be available for Game 3, on 5 days rest, quite likely back in NY. I don't know if I'd like that personally. 7 days. 7 days what? He's on 6 days rest, that was a typo. Pitching every 5th day means 4 days rest. If he pitches every 5th day through the end of the inning he'll be available to pitch on 5 days rest in the playoffs.

I actually used to really dislike Santo's work. He was horrible. It's one thing to have some goober jabbering about nonsense on tv, where you can still see the game and know what's going on, but that doesn't work on the radio. I started to warm to him a little bit, and now I find him tolerable. But that's about the extent of it.

Oh my lord. Incredibly difficult? He works 3 hours a day 150 days a year talking about baseball. Give me a break. If you want to say it's fun to listen to him sound goofy and get all emotional, fine. Maybe that's your thing. But don't try and pretend his job is hard.

Ehhhh, not all that interested. I'd rather Lou start a lineup that isn't all RH against a LHP, leaving Cedeno on the bench as well. Which still leaves Blanco as your top pinch-hitter against a LHP. But he's been pinch-hitting Blanco with only 2 catchers all season. I don't see why the Cubs would have to suddenly carry 3 catchers during the playoffs in order to pinch-hit with him. I didn't mean to imply that Cedeno was the better RH bat off the bench.

Did you already have the no-hitter recorded? Because frankly I'd prefer having that one on DVR than this one, provided Harden doesn't do something similar. Didn't air in NY. I just DVR every game in case I'm not home when it starts.

Please justify this statement. The more I think about it, the more I believe that having LESS than 11 pitchers is lunacy. You do realize that there are 2 sets or back to back games during the LDS, right? Over the course of the regular season you often play 10 or more games with no break. 11 pitchers is more than enough. In the playoffs, you can go with a 4 man rotation, meaning you still have 6 relievers if you go to a 10 man staff. Is there much use in bringing in your 7th best reliever along for the ride? Any close game is going to see Marmol and Wood. Marshall and Marquis can be used for longer stretches if they go extras or the starter gets knocked out very early. Cotts is the loogy and then one more space, say Samardzija. I think 10 is more than enough. That gives you more options off the bench.

While MLB didn't release the official schedule until later, it has pretty much always followed the tentative schedule to the letter. Most people just follow the tentative schedule release. And for example, last year the Cubs released that schedule on October 11th. I don't see this as very much different then teams releasing their schedules in the middle of the playoffs. I guess I always thought that was after the playoffs. -

It does seem random, doesn't it? I'm probably just weird, but I like how they did it in the past because you could slowly piece the whole schedule together rather than just seeing it all unveiled at once. That made for something fun in the offseason. I actually prefer getting it all at once and earlier, it just goes against all of MLB's typical marketing decisions. It makes it easier to plan trips back to Chicago and any other road trips. -

Is anybody else confused about why MLB released the schedule when it did? They usually follow a pattern of leaking certain matchups and then release the schedules in the winter when interest has waned. I don't get why they would throw this out in the middle of pennant races. They hate having news break during the playoffs, especially the World Series. What is the point?
