  1. If they get there, I'll be at game 6.
  2. This team isn't built for the long haul. If they win 6 divisions in a row and don't win a world series, yes, people will be devastated. I like how you say you won't even watch this game, yet you are ridiculing others for being upset about the way things have gone.
  3. Do people really think a lack of motivation is the problem?
  4. A) There aren't many Braves fans left. B) Braves fans saw a hell of a lot more playoff wins than Cubs fans, including World Series wins. Stupid comparison.
  5. In his last at bat, that first pitch called a strike was comical. The K-Zone thing showed it to be about 14 inches outside. Same thing in game 1. The cynic in me says the old ass umps hold some sort of post WWII grudge against Japanese players. They have called a heck of a lot of awful pitches strikes against him, and it appeared to start after his hot April. The umps in general were awful last night. There was a ball that hit white grass called foul, strikes right down the middle called balls, the ill-advised throw to 2nd by Zambrano was clearly late and they called it out. They were pathetic.
  6. Not nearly enough energy to think about this right now.
  7. I saw the end result but didn't understand what led up to it. Thanks.
  8. That was fun to see, I think Cabrera was trying to fire up his team. TB has been in quite a bit more confrontations than some tiny MI kicking dirt. Balfour is high strung anyways and if the Sox tried intimidating them, that won't work. Neither will meatballs to Evan, they'll need BJ to step up tonight. What did Cabrera do?
  9. Not to overreact, but are we looking at the end of Harris's career? Or just a bad time here? With a guy as emotionally unstable as Harris appears, you never know. I'd say the chances are slim that he actually walks away for good, but who knows what kind of effort or production they will get out of him this year.
  10. It doesn't help that Fukudome is regularly screwed by umps with balls 10 inches off the plate being called strikes. I noticed it quite a bit early in the year, and that's when Fukudome started swinging at all sorts of crap. Of course, there are much bigger problems, but I'm getting sick of seeing those pitches called strikes on him. Guys could probably throw three straight fastballs down the middle and hold him to a .250 AVG at this point.
  11. If the Cubs threaten that way, you can bet it will be.
  12. Sure, but coming off a down year, it's going to be bad again next year anyway. They need to rebuild anyway and smaller market teams have a tough time affording expensive starting pitching. The winning and losing matters a lot more than name players. Unfortunately, we'll probably never know how much losing a player of his caliber on a small market team affects attendance. You are correct that they will be down coming off a bad year. I'm sure their season ticket sales this season wasn't impacted all that much since they were coming off a good season the previous year and essentially had everyone from that team coming back again. Season ticket sales will plummet this coming season now that fans know it was a bad team this year and will likely be worse next year. These people love Peavy, however. Pittsburgh loved Jason Bay (and before that Giles). I just don't think there are untouchable players. Very, very few teams really hold on to the fan favorites forever, and most smaller clubs get rid of them earlier than expected.

  14. Because the Cubs are very much alive in the playoffs and playing a game tonight?
  15. Does it though? Do people actually pay much attention?
  16. Milwaukee has 'em loaded with 1 out in the first and JJ Hardy at the plate. Bases loaded walk makes it 1-0.
  17. Oh geez, the guy is on the verge of falling apart.
  18. Not to nitpick, but didn't we sweep a doubleheader in there somewhere? So that would make it wins on 96 days. :D I think he means the first day we lost, then we won on 96 other days.
  19. konerko makes it interesting, as Wheeler gives up the long fly. 6-4
  20. If Z pitches a gem tonight, I would not assume that Dempster would pitch a prospective Game 5. Z would be on 4 days rest in Game 5. good point
  21. Nothing but disappointment from post-contract Tommie.
  22. what in the world was up with that reaction?
  23. People need to get over this story. Yeah, it's been almost 24 hours. It's also a non-story.
