  1. The lead maybe, but not he 2-run part.
  2. Where has the main talk been about the crowd, though? It's been mentioned because, false perception or real, it seemed odd to a lot of people. But the talks of what happened in game 1 (and what might happen next) still dominate. Its the main theme on Chicago sports radio today, believe me. I read Bruce's articles and avoided everything else today. No way would I ever considering listening to Chicago sports radio right now.
  3. you are talking about a network that doesn't do much baseball and is very different than the typical cubs broadcast. CSN and WGN purposefully show fans getting on their feet as part of their show, TBS isn't going to have that kind of bias.
  4. Then you got the wrong impression on TV. For one, you can't judge the crowd based on the five rows behind home plate. And crowd volume is not consistent from telecast to telecast. It was much louder than the average Cubs game. Then they were being loud while sitting on their butts far more often than many Wrigley crowds do. I'm not sure how you noticed that on the tv. They didn't show the crowd nearly as much as a regular Cubs broadcast does. All I could see were behind home plate, and behind each side of the batters box.
  5. Outside of the weak "chilly" excuse, none of that explains why many of us were noticing how quiet and subdued the crowd was by Wrigley standards *before* the fifth inning. Dempster boring them to sleep is a pretty good reason So if your pitcher is shutting out the opponent through four and you are winning 2-0 in the opening game of the playoffs, but the pitcher looks kinda wild doing it, that's reason enough to show less enthusiasm than a regular-season Cubs-Brewers game? "kinda wild" is a very loose description, he sucked. Anecdotaly it looked to me like there was a hell of a lot more old people there than usual, and old people do not like standing up and making noise - see pink hat guy. Speaking of pink hat guy, I felt the vibe was off because he was in the wrong seat.
  6. Well said. I actually didn't watch with sound, so I can't comment on what happened last night, but it was obvious that fans weren't going to be going nutty until or unless the Cubs did something to make it interesting. A rally, or some shutdown relief work would have helped, but they did nothing.
  7. Carry us implies scoring runs. A quality start by Z would still require at least 3-4 runs by this offense. I'm not sure anymore with the type of at the plate awfulness seen last night. Carry us implies the pitching isn't going to get the job done and the offense has to score a lot of runs. The Cubs have beaten LA this year by scores of 3-1, 3-1, 2-1, 5-4 and 3-1. Zambrano was the starter in the 2-1 win. There's no reason they can't win a 2-1 or 3-1 game again tonight. And there's no reason why they can't score 3-4, they were really close to doing that last night.
  8. Sunovabi............. Detroit has to like their chances against the Bears DBs. Take the over.
  9. I agree that sometimes people get a little high and mighty about how calm, cool and collected they can be. I definitely ride the rollar coaster during games. But seriously, you walked out? I think that's pretty lame.
  10. Truer words have not been spoken. Does not matter how lights out Big Z turns out tonight, this offense will have to carry us tonight. Actually, it does matter, because if Z throws a gen the offense won't have to carry them.
  11. Hunter has been the weak link for a while, and I was actually wondering if they'd consider releasing him after Briggs resigned, and going with a cheap kid there.
  12. CSN - October 10th, vs NY Rangers I was going to this game until I saw the MLB postseason schedule, now I hope there's still a reason not to go.
  13. Do you realize that through 8 innings, the Brewers are averaging 4.21 P/PA ?? Because they keep striking out, but they were hacking. I've seen Fielder, Braun and a couple others take big hacks at balls.
  14. NNW 15-17mph, will be dying down after the game starts. (in from left)
  15. First wish for you: with a loved one Like mom, uncle, niece?
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio/news/story?page=2008mlbonespnradio it's the first link on the website. They can't air it online, but it's on your local affiliate.
  17. I can't say I'm a fan of that, though I'm not surprised at all that Gaudin won't have a shot to be added to the roster later on. Yeah, I don't quite get the point of sending guys home. Is it some sort of response to what they believe was poor behavior?
  18. They are essentially $1.5m under right? I would assume they would have to count any portion of salary eaten against the cap this year, although if they trade him now, maybe that's all cleared. Regardless, it's not like they are going to be bringing in some big money guy at this point, there are no free agents, teams aren't giving up stars at the start of the season. I don't think the salary cap ramifications are that big, even if that's how they try and portray it.
  19. Actually, I wear the jersey shirt underneath my work shirt. Today it's a sweater, though, so it's not quite so visible. I've got the Ramirez shirt underneath right now, with a cubs sweatshirt and jeans in my bag so I can change and go straight to the bar without heading home.
