  2. I think you'd be surprised how many chances Lou will be willing to give Howry. I could be wrong though. You might be right. However, I hold out hope that Howry is done with the Cubs at the end of this season, so there is zero incentive to give him a playoff roster spot. He showed me nothing last night, just like he showed me nothing for most of the year. The only incentive is to satisfy Lou's inner veteran lover.
  3. Today is Thursday, rain is in the forecast today and all day/night Friday. When is it supposed to start coming down there? I've heard showers around 8-10, and the heavy stuff around midnight.
  4. It's already been putten.
  5. and there's no way it'll happen. How much beer sales can there even be in the two innings leading up to a clinch? That's not exactly the ideal beer consuming time. Your words are foreign to me.

  8. In all honesty, the vibe I'm getting is most Mets fans are convinced the Mets aren't even good enough to make the playoffs, let alone hang with the Cubs.
  9. More likely than not, there will be a rain out Friday but the Mets will be able to play Saturday and a DH Sunday. I don't think it will be that big of an issue. On a side note, I heard Timmy Kurkjian talking about how "this is what makes baseball so great". He says this every time there's some odd quirk. How in the world is this what makes baseball so great? Baseball is a great sport, rainouts don't make it better.
  10. I actually think he's played his way onto the playoff roster based solely on his 1 inning last night With a 3.00 WHIP? 2 intentional walks, but I guess he deserved it by giving up the leadoff triple. I was kind of kidding. He did get out of a mess, but he got himself into that same mess. Howry's been awful on the whole, and Lou's given him a lot of chances. Before the weekend is out, odds are he'll have another bad outing and then who knows where they will stand.

  13. I really need to replace the keg in my kegorator. It's been on E for far too long, thanks for reminding me.
  14. I think it was just a nonsensical word to use. That doesn't mean they "must" start the NLCS first. There's no reason why it must.
  15. I thought the article did a pretty good job of justifying it. I don't. That makes no sense. Why does that mean the NLCS must start first?
  16. The best part of this "quote" is that nobody ever said it other than you and Garage Party! in an effort to mock Cedeno supporters with a straw man. I don't know if that actual quote was ever said or not, and truthfully I don't care, but similar stuff has certainly been said in the Theriot vs. Cedeno debates before the season started. The talk was about Theriot pretty much locking in mediocrity, whereas Cedeno gave you a chance for much greater upside. It was acknowledged by pretty much everybody that Cedeno had a very low floor.
  17. He started game 7 of the NLCS in 2006 and went 6 innings giving up 1 run. I guess that's where it comes from?? They didn't even win that game. Oliver Perez has a worse ERA+ than any of the 9 pitchers who have started a game for the Cubs this year. He also has a knack for coming up with big outings against some tough opponents (Philly, Yankees) and then crapping the bed against weak teams (Washington, Pittsburgh). It's more about his inconsistenct but occasional dominance than any one big playoff game (he's only pitched in 2 in his career).
  18. I would think they'd want those two teams in primetime. However, if Philly/LA plays the other series, they could also want that west coast audience getting a later time slot.
  19. day game after a night game is hardly an ideal solution
  20. Huh? When did that happen? (The NFL thing) when ABC had it a couple of years ago ABC was still doing MNF a couple years ago, and their entire production staff is essentially run by the same people at ESPN. I don't see how that is a problem.
  21. I don't have a problem with the day baseball in the playoffs. First off, it's the first two games of the first round. There are going to be much more important prime time games down the road. Secondly, fan bases deal with day playoffs all the time. I remember when the Cubs were in the playoffs in 2003 and received prime time slotting ahead of the Yankees, who had to play a day game or two. It happens. It's much better than playing all games at the same time. And third, come on people, we've been dealing with day baseball forever, is it really that hard to adjust schedules to watch or listen to a game during the day? People do that in April and May all the time, now that it's October it's a huge problem?
  22. and given the players in front of him. The beat writers hate him, and their number 1 complaint are the injuries. Unless they are insinuating he's faked all them, I don't get the complaint. The guy got hurt, it happens. But when he's been healthy enough to play he's never played. They pick on the lack of receptions, as if he was a baseball player with 600 PA in a season and only 5 HR. It's football, if you don't get on the field, have a play called in your direction, have the line block well enough and have the QB throw the ball to you, you aren't going to get receptions. I have a bad feeling he's going to find success on another team.
  23. http://www.tbs.com/stories/story/0,,154864,00.html Day Date Game # Time Series 1) Weds October 1st # 1 1:30pm or 3:00pm NLA # 1 4) Thurs October 2nd # 2 1:30pm or 3:00pm NLA # 2 NLA = National League Division Winner versus Wildcard What if Milwaukee is the WC, would we then become the NLB? What I mean, is the "A" designation tied to the wild card, or tied to the #1 seed? It appears it's tied to the WC, and would therefore be the most likely cubs series. But if MIL wins, they would switch to B.

  25. wow, this guy must completely dog practice, as he's never been given a chance in games. Booker is worthless, Davis can't catch, Hester hasn't come close to emerging as a receiver. They must really trust Lloyd and Bennet.
