  1. I really hope he doesn't take me up on my offer to pack his bags, I'm busy this week
  2. most definitely
  3. You know there's pretty easy ways to verify how silly this is, right?
  4. Just my opinion, but I see Schwindel as a guy who's rounding out the ML roster right now... nothing more. I'll be incredibly disappointed if he breaks camp next spring. Sorry if this post serves as a reminder of how bad this team is. Guess what? There's still 8 weeks of this crap ahead of us. Suck it up. That’s not it at all. It’s this mock disbelief that people on the cubs message board are discussing the players who are currently playing for the cubs. You chose to click on a topic with a very clear subject that fits in pretty well with the purpose of the board. On the flip side, the Cubs actively chose to tank this year and put the fans in a situation where if they want to think about their team they have to discuss garbage players and whether those garbage players have a chance to play for the team next year. That sucks, it should be inexcusable for a fan base that provides a tremendous financial cushion to the owners who are acting as though they are the greatest victims of the covid shutdown. If a fan wants to express his frustration with the situation that the owners of the team chose to the put them into, then they should feel free to do so without being criticized by fans who think we should just shut up and accept the situation.
  5. Agree there. They don't have any other better options than him.
  6. If the Cubs want to contend, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Heyward gets significant at bats and we still have a competent offense. We’ve basically seen how that plays out the past four seasons. Prior to this year, which is terrible, he's been a 2 win player or better the last three years. When I say 'contend next year', I'm not talking about racing the Dodgers to 100 wins, but having a reasonable chance of winning a very average division. A two win player can definitely be a starter on that kind of team. He was also a 28/29/30 year old scraping together half-assed rebound seasons after back to back 1 WAR seasons. He's already 32 years old and will just be getting worse as time goes by.
  7. I really don't understand this so any clarification by anyone is welcomed. Kids who are good enough to get drafted as pitchers have pitched a lot and have strong arms or else they wouldn't get drafted, why are these guys only pitching two innings? I could see a pitch number limit, but this kind of thing does not make intuitive sense. A) He wasn't drafted, he was a cheap international signee by the Yankees a number of years ago. B) He was on the IL all year with an arm injury and just started rehabbing prior to the trade.
  8. The discussion was around sustained success. I made the point that better days are ahead, but it's seems like a very good chance they don't have the stomach to fund sustained success. They'll take their 4-5 year windows and bail. Pointing out they were good for 5 years before pulling the plug doesn't refute my point.
  9. Are we really questioning the bonafides of Boston's qualification of sustained success? All these teams that are alleged pillars for sustained success literally have 60-70 win seasons within the last few years was my point. They’ve all had down/selling years. I know we’re all pissed at the Cubs and where they are now but the spot they’re in isn’t unique. They very well could be back to a 80-90 win team next year with the flexibility they have and have a pretty damn good prospect foundation, much like the teams referenced who have had down years in the past few years matched with success. By all accounts the returns on the trades we made were very good and the system was already trending up. I’ll wait until the offseason to see what kind of spending/trades they make to pass judgment on if they really are going full tank again or maintaining some kind of success/competitiveness. They have close to $100 mil to spend on the cheap side if they’re trying at all and still able to run a lower payroll than they have in a long time. The Cubs are on pace for as many 90 loss seasons as 90 win seasons over the past decade. We're talking different stratospheres of rebuilding and sustained success here.

  11. There's little doubt that better days are ahead. What I do doubt is they will ever try for sustained success. They'll be happy to take 4-5 year swings and restart.
  12. The Ricketts-owned Cubs have carried a 105+ million payroll in 12 of their 13 seasons. In 2013 when they had no intention of competing they spent 37% of their 107 million payroll on free agents that offseason(plus extended Starlin). That 105 million mark would be 40 million lower than this year's opening day payroll(which itself was 30-60 million lower than the peak seasons), and would still offer them ~35 million to upgrade the roster. Claiming the team won't have financial resources to get better as soon as this offseason is aimless cynicism. I mean, this is the same guy that thought criticism of the early Ricketts tank job was unfair.
  13. Have you and goony merged into the same grumpy person? I’m not grumpy I’m big boned.

  15. no you don’t yes, I do. And I remember when Kevin Orie was going to be rookie of the year. But I also remember when we sent Kerry Wood down in 1998 after ST and someone said "if they have five better starters than him, they're winning it all." McNown was a training camp holdout who sat behind Shane Mathews and was purposely eased into nfl games one series at a time.
  16. You mention the bullpen, which is far from an easy to answer situation, but what about the rotation? It's really bad. You need 7+ starters to make it through a season, and it's probably 8 or more when you talk about a rotation with a group like this that doesn't have a couple reliable workhorses. When your bullpen AND rotation need an influx of help your season can slip away from you very quickly.
  17. I don't get why people say things like this. On paper this team is trash. They have no pitching. The strength of the staff was the bullpen that is all gone. The rotation has one guy and a bunch of garbage. They have one major league hitter, who is a catcher, and have been getting complete lightning in a bottle performances out of a collection of nobodies and it's still not enough to make up for the full roster. This is an incredibly bad baseball team that will need to add several very expensive players in the offseason to be competitive next year. If they went into the season with this current roster they'd lose 120, easily. You know there's pretty easy ways to verify how silly this is, right? by watching them lose every game with a collection of career minor leaguers and should be retired pitchers? And Jason Heyward.

  19. Really? I remember hype being a lot more tepid for Mitch as most thought there was going to be a learning curve. People were quick to point out when he did well but it wasn’t the kind of horsefeathers I’m reading about Fields. Though I did go to the Reddit page for all 5 first round QB teams the other day and they all seem to think their QB is going to be competing with Brady for GOAT by the end of their careers. Except the Jets that is Trubisky was a little mixed on draft day, but there were tons of great reports coming out of camp. I remember when Cade McNown was NFL ready and basically the next Brett Favre. no you don’t
  20. Quit making excuses for the piece of horsefeathers
