  1. So I played for the first time in 2+ years a couple weeks ago, then again yesterday. I guess it's a new thing now that people don't take the flag out of the hole on the green.
  2. yeah, I don't buy that. Protocols mattered last year. Now everybody is pretty much free to suck the breath out of anybody. I don't think it's protocols making that difference now. There basically aren't any.
  3. Or, like actual major league hitters Seeing that the Cubs system was to produce waves and waves of talent failed at producing players with high contact rate - I’d take another team’s player evaluation over the Cubs any day. If that means Madrigal - so be it Okay, but he’s out for the year and only one guy. They don’t have any major league hitters today.
  4. Would be great for the LGBTQIA+ community but not sure how it’ll help the Cubs
  5. You are an insane person
  6. Why wouldnt you give young arms a chance to start during all these meaningless games we have? If someone is losing a rotation spot at this point its gotta be Jake. That said, they may choose to shut down Alzolay to preserve his innings thrown this year. They aren't exactly flush with innings eaters or young guys desperate for innings. Remember, they got rid of half the bullpen as well, and need innings to be eaten from top to bottom.
  7. doing his job, eat innings and fall in the standings
  8. This is a real "today is the oldest you've ever been" kind of statement.
  9. And 5 number 1 starters with a bullpen full of closers. A real number 1 starter doesn't need a closer
  10. Hendry was the GM of a major market team exactly because they were run like a mom and pop shop. He was a gym teacher who ran the team like an old school traditional GM at a time when good front offices were exploiting these guys. It's not Hendry's fault he was a failed GM, because he never should have been a GM. He was a scout. He was Phil Emery with social skills.
  11. pretty shocked you had zero posts in here from the reboot in early 2016 until the 2017 offseason. I don't understand your point. The 2016 team had a ton of ML ready prospects and this team doesn't. The 2016 team let their young highly regarded players play and half of the posts here want to trade Hoerner and/or Madrigal who are two of our highly regarded young players. The insinuation is that as a Hendry apologist you were embarrassed by the success of the Theo era you predicted would go so horribly wrong so you stayed away until things started to get worse again and you could come in and complain about the team some more.
  12. they did this on purpose to force change back to indians
  13. It’s called a dropped third strike I played baseball from age 5 through HS and never once did I hear reaching first on a dropped 3rd strike called stealing first base. we had to introduce it in girls softball this season and the kids call it that when trying to grasp the idea. I googled the phrase and it’s quite popular in that context.
  14. I thought the genesis was something about Hoerner getting the Cubs a quality starting pitcher. I don't think he gets them anything good for the rotation, he's 24+ oft injured with a very limited resume. He looks like a more valuable to the Cubs than anybody else kind of player. This team is very short on major league talent for the next couple years. They need him to fill a spot until they decide to start trying again.
  15. problem with hoerner is that he really hasn't done that much at the major league level. i think that tends to reduce a guy's trade value, kind of like how all the padres got for rizzo was andrew cashner because rizzo sucked ass in his first crack at the bigs. Hoerner hasn’t proven himself to be a star, but he has 1.5 fWAR in 360 MLB PAs and is having his best offensive season yet. Not much comparison to Rizzo, who had a .248 wOBA and negative WAR in his 150 PA as a Padre. Nico would have plenty of trade value if they went that route. Hoerner is 2 years older than Rizzo was when he was traded to the Cubs. He's not getting the Cubs anything in a trade with his resume to date.
  16. Stealing first base? It’s called a dropped third strike
  17. While I’m not a huge fan of the way they went about I do get this was probably as much about convincing Fleury they were seriously looking to contend this year. And if it works, it’s a pretty good plan.
  18. It takes a very long stretch of major losing to truly damper attendance. They can live with 80+ loss seasons a for a couple years and they will have to. You start going 90+ and prolong it for 5 years and we’ll see, but they have a huge cushion for living with losses and they’ve shown they are more than happy to do it.
