  1. Cliffs Notes: Randy Bush was nice to me, Crane Kenney was not. My god this article was terrible. They extended two main guys prior to this hire already. He also compared Boston's last two seasons to the Cubs last two by noting neither team made the playoffs in those two years. I guess the fact that Boston won 33 more games than the Cubs in those two years is meaningless.
  2. The funny thing is he always falls back to the "neutral field" argument when justifying ranking one team ahead of a team they lost to, and yet the Bears just handled the Bucs fairly evenly on the very definition of a neutral field.
  3. Yep. Comcast SportsNet is airing it as will http://www.csnchicago.com. I bet ESPN carries it on SportsCenter as well. They will probably air the Boston rebuttal instead.
  4. they would have at least 5 losses by then, and be behind about 5 other teams for the WC race. I doubt Philly will have much of a chance if they do lose to the Bears. Bears coming off a bye. Philly coming off a tough primetime divisional matchup. Bears do well against Vick and Philly isn't all that great on defense. Lovie is only 4-3 coming off the bye, but 4-1 in the last 5 years.
  5. I think I have tickets to this game, which would be maybe the 3rd Eagles/Bears games I've attended in Philly. Lovie is 3-2 vs Philly, and the Bears do well against Vick. I like there chances here, especially with Philly's defesne being so ho-hum against the pass. They do sack the QB quite a bit, but they are allowing the 10th highest QB rating against. And their numbers would be a whole lot worse if they didn't catch Grossman in his implosion game.
  6. Selig and MLB are idiots because they got 2 weeks of added media attention in a couple of markets that would have ignored baseball this month.
  7. On one of the post game radio shows yesterday they had a TB radio guy on, and he said the theme of the week in Tampa talk radio land was that the Bucs would have an easy game due to: 1) the Bears waiting until Thursday to travel and 2) Brigg's comments about the team morale. Whoops. The funny thing is they said Tampa flew out on Friday last time, but the Bears travelled on Thursday this time. They were there in advance, just not a whole freaking week.
  8. Pitching abuse was much more widespread than the notion that managers don't really matter. I know I had those conversations with people on the espn board, but those people mostly came here. There were not, however, many of them. I mean, you can disagree all you want; I'm just trying to answer your question. Mostly people simply did not view him as the monster he would become. Yes, I understand there were a lot of ignorant people who couldn't foresee the coming catastrophe, what I'm saying is there had to be somebody else.
  9. he was taken off with some leg issues.
  10. Holy crap Miami is pathetic, and Tebow was terrible despite the win.

  12. Somebody other than hccf must agree with me, I know I wasn't the only one sounding the alarm bells of how horrible a hire that was going to be.
  13. I was extremely optimistic about the long term future of the Cubs a decade ago, ironically when Hendry was in charge of the farm system.
  14. that game was dreadfully similar to last season's lackluster games.
  15. OH MY GOD WHY DID CHICAGO WAIT TO TRAVEL UNTIL THURSDAY??? DIDN'T THEY REALIZE THAT FLYING TO THE MOON IS A HUGE TIME CHANGE AND WILL CAUSE TERRIBLE ROCKET LAG?? Way to many idiotic media members made way to big of a deal about this travel. Hey people, Tampa said they suffered the last time but they actually just really sucked that season.
  16. I know what you are saying but it sounds funny.
  17. The cubs aren't in a financial bind and the only reason they are even close to one is because they signed a second rate player to a star contract. You avoid trouble down the line by giving star money to actual stars.
  18. Cindy Sandberg as PR director? Director of internal affairs
  19. I'm pretty sure that's against his contract and they could recoup some of his salary for that. Plus, why burn a bridge, even though his bosses are acting like toddlers? You don't smear out in public where people can prove it was you.
  20. Why not? See above. Let's assume for a moment that there's even a 1% chance that Epstein to the Cubs falls apart. Hoyer's not going to quit his job in San Diego if there's a chance he has to work with someone other than his superbestbuddy. The Cubs aren't going to hire a new GM if there's even a tiny chance they have to find a new President (who will presumably want some sort of say on the GM front). See above, doesn't make any sense.
  21. That makes no sense to me. Hoyer is Epstein's guy. He wants to work with Epstein. He's not going to quit his job in SD while there is even a tiny bit of doubt that Epstein is coming, and the Cubs can't really hire a GM if there's even a tiny chance that they may have to look for a new president of baseball ops. He would be quitting at a place that won't give him an extension to go to a place that will be giving him a 5-year deal. So that point makes no sense. I doubt Ricketts absolutely insists he must have a president of baseball ops now just because that was going to be the plan with Theo.
  22. this delay makes me a sad panda
  23. That's when you know the negotiators are finally getting serious.
