    Yikes, that's early. luckily I'm on vacation this week so I can catch the presser. In Europe? Otherwise why wouldn't you still be asleep? I'm married and have kids 9am ct is 10 am my time, I have to get up at 730 to get my daughter on the bus. it's 10am not 2 am. That's a horrible vacation.

    Hopefully the victims will be willing to testify and offset any decrease in his credibility.

    They are awesome because they are win or go home games, which are rare since most series don't go 5 or 7. What's the point of a 3 game series? Everybody acknowledges that 5 games series are too short, a 3 game series is going to be quite random. It's not anymore fair, but it will be an incredible waste of time and very difficult to do with travel and other obstacles.

    Ok, who wants to start the thread on finding the next Cubs' hitting, pitching and bench coaches? I'm guessing the hitting coach will stay the same and the bench coach will be some old guy.

    I hate the 3 game series idea. It makes everybody else sit around for a week. There's no good reason to do it.

    I'm still not the least bit excited about this hire. I'm happy that I'm not disappointed. But it's a manager. Get me some players and I'll get excited.

    Depends on how you spin it. A one game playoff for teams without identical records is ridiculous No, it doesn't depend on how you spin it. It is more important to win your division instead of coasting by on the wild card. You win your division in the regular season. If you have the better record of the two wild card teams, you get a home game in that one game playoff to win it.

    Agreed. I really don't like it. It further cheapens the regular season plus it runs the real risk of drastically affecting the 1 game playoff winner's rotation/bullpen and making them even a bigger underdog in the next round It actually makes the regular season more important.

    Theo's [expletive] bombed. They stopped selling booze after the 7th though, so he should sober up in time to get the deal done.

    If the Cubs start fielding 100 win teams I will feel great about their abilityt to maintain that success for multiple seasons.

    Why? I'm not sure where I stand yet. The possiblility of 3rd place teams and/or teams with the 5th best record in their league having a chance to win the world series. Thats probably a legit downside. At least there is a downside to wining the wildcard as opposed to the division now. I don't think it's a legit downside. We've already given the 4th best teams in the league equal footing with the best to win it, this set-up would give the best team a better chance of winning and make it harder for the lesser teams.

    To be replaced by wild card races where both teams know they are getting in and don't care who has the better record. I don't think that is how it will go down, at least until the final week or so. There's going to be much more emphasis on winning your division, and it's going to open up the WC to more teams, which won't give them a chance to coast. If one team is comfortable with it, they will set it up to throw their ace in that game.

    You don't need to add more IL games to make it work, but they might add a couple.

    Or they could just take a guy and have the Cubs agree to not take him back if they stash him in the minors. Or, they could have the Cubs draft a guy for them, since the Cubs would be drafting so much earlier.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm 100% on board. Of course, this was my idea a decade ago.

    15 teams in AL 15 teams in NL requires one IL matchup at all times, or else teams would have 3 straight off days while others play series.

    I never bought into the theory that you could break down his ability between signings and trades. The guy was a bad GM. He made good and bad moves, good and bad trades and good and bad signings. In comparison to how good the Cubs GM could have and should have been, he was terrible. A few good moves didn't assuage my concerns.

    Yes, because he was bad at his job, often focused on the wrong "areas of need", and was more than happy to pay up to get his man.

    Why would better options be waiting in the wings? If we had better options, wouldn't they be in the rotation? Well, Cashner for one is doubtful to be ready to be a major league starter on Opening Day. I'm thinking something like him still stretching out in the bullpen or Iowa, or something along those lines. Basically I'm not counting on 6 months of 30 plus starts with solid results out of Wells. But he could holder his own until somebody else proves ready or they make a deal.

    Molly as a PTBNL? Jayson Stark: According to STats Inc this would be the first ever occurence of a husband and wife being traded for one another.

    He was atrocious in April and July. He was average for about half the year, and had a better second half. Overall it was a very bad year. It was also his only very bad year in his career, and very much an outlier. He may never do what he did in 2010 again, but he probably won't be nearly as bad as 2011 either. He could be a 3-5 WAR player for a while still. If Theo does it right, I could be interested in the move.

    The first things I heard about it was he sent an email to multiple ex-teammates, not just one guy. If you are sending out a mass email, you pretty much have to assume it will get out there. If you send it to one guy and he leaks it to the media, either you wanted him to do it, or he's a pretty crappy friend.
