  1. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/19/the-extra-wild-card-team-might-not-be-the-only-change-to-the-playoff-format/ Changing that is a no-brainer given the new WC situation, because half the point is the give the 1 seed a game against a somewhat depleted WC opponent that needed to win an extra game just to get there.
  2. What the hell is your post even about? Annoying people spouting annoying opinions annoy me. That's why I'm not looking forward to the idiots spouting off on Cutler again.
  3. um, I'd much rather have Cutler in there to give the Bears a chance at building a cushion to prevent the possibility of one drive determining the game.
  4. Because the the question is about whether they are realistic options, not that they are poised to sign. We've known for a very long time that they would be available and the Cubs would have the need and financial resources to sign either.
  5. Oakland now 3.5 point favorites.
  6. Saying he could potentially be very good is just ignoring the facts about what he has done in his career and the trajectory that baseball players take over their careers. I think if we do stuff like give him a shot we will struggle to be mediocre and there is no good reason to purposefully tank a season because you want to see if there is a one in a bilion chance that Bryan Lahair turns into a very good everyday first baseman. I guess I feel its very unlikely that playing LaHair is going to be the difference between playoffs and tanking. I think its more likely he'd just be the difference between mediocrity and tanking and to me if your going to be mediocre I'd just rather you tanked anyway. There's no good reason why this team has to be mediocre. And there difference between what LaHair could be expected to bring to the table compared with one of the two available free agents is enormous, both now, and over the next several years. Purposefully starting the season with him at 1B would be negligent.

  8. http://deadspin.com/5861406/one-of-jerry-sanduskys-alleged-victims-is-being-bullied-had-to-withdraw-from-school The lone silver lining, Gillum added, is that Victim 1 is drawing strength from seeing other alleged victims continue to speak up.
  9. This is his 4th year in the league, so under the new rules he's going to be unrestricted.
  10. I wouldn't go to Oakland by choice.
  11. To be fair, as far as I know that could be the motivation behind that particular headline. It shouldn't be surprsing that a QB with that line gets hurt. But we do know there is a predilection to hate Jay Cutler, both nationally and among many Chicago fans/media.
  12. A headline on deadspin this morning is: "For Some Bizarre Reason, A Jay Cutler Injury Is Shocking News" There will be a perception of Cutler as soft. I guess I'm looking at this from the perspective of a Bears fan, so yeah, I guess non-Bears fan aren't going to pay as much attention to them as I do, but I had no idea Cutler being easily injured was a "thing." They're acting like last year was his rookie season or something. Cutler being durable was a thing, but then came the concussion, knee and now thumb. It will become a thing.

  14. Even the meatballs won't go with that, will they? It's not like he's dealing with chronic, nagging injuries. He came back from last season no problem and this is just his thumb. Are even the meatballs THAT dumb? I'm sure some will. If this season goes down the tubes, they will harp on Cutler being fragile. If he misses time and Hanie holds his own, they will talk about replacing him full time.
  15. What's with the condescending tone? Of course people base their opinions on what players are capable of on what other players have done. A guy who was pretty much a mediocre minor league player until he turns 25 and has a few trips around the easiest hitters league out there isn't somebody you hand a starting job to. It would be negligent. I am one of the people who think he's worth a spot on the bench, because he could give you some power from time to time. But it would be a horrible decision to let him open the season as the starting first baseman. You would be throwing away the season and there is no good reason to throw away a season.
  16. I'm strangely at ease with this because the Bears have shown they are a solid team with a solid QB and because of that they should be able to stay relavent for a while. Plus I didn't have much more hope than simply getting to the playoffs this season. But my biggest concern is going to be all the nonsense that will come out talking about Cutler ending back to back seasons injured (unless, of course, he can come back) and the Bears still needing to find a QB.
  17. Absolutely. Right now, Michigan and Michigan State's resume is virtually identical. Michigan has had the slightly harder schedule and Michigan State has the head to head win (although I don't put much stock in that, since there are so many times in college football where A beats B beats C who beats A). Michigan is already ahead in the computer rankings. If Michigan State plays another similar team and loses, should they not get penalized even a little bit for that? Because even a little bit of a penalty would put them clearly behind Michigan. No, they shouldn't, but they will. W hy do you justify discounting head to head by talking about something completely unrelated?
  18. Flavor of the lately? It's been going on for quite some time now. It might be one of the only things keeping papers alive.
  19. whatever happens, please don't go out and sign a veteran journeyman.
  20. looks like the bears were going to be favored by 1 with Cutler, but it's off the board now. I still think the Bears can pull out a win here. Oakland is still just a mediocre football team, they've lost to Denver, KC and Buffalo this year. And they've still been outscored season to date. The defense will need to step up, but I think the offense can at least make a go of it, assuming the line somewhat holds it together.
  21. should be packers ball, but hope its not
  22. Although I'm not sure how you could be on the ice for 7 goals, and be a minus 4 when your team scores 2 goals, that's absolutely pathetic and embarrassing. I'm starting to dislike Keith in general. being on the ice during a PP goal doesn't count toward +- (i think) I wouldn't go nearly as far as what you said about Keith though.
  23. Why does he NFL care so much about stuff like this? they are all about licensing as well as running a tight ship. The fact that Bennett knew he would be fined and wore them anyways scared them into preemptive overreaction.
  24. Well if he truly follows the Fridge's legacy he'll start drinking himself to death and you can have the last laugh. in his defense, the fridge isn't nearly as dead as reggie white. oooh, that's good squishy
  25. Hold on. Are people blindly agreeing with the nonsense about the cowboys having accountability?
