  1. because that is how long it is going to take to turn the team around. no need to change uniforms for the same losing squad.
  2. I believe the us against them thing is somewhat real in football, where effort matters. I've also been afraid of the Bears getting full of themselves on multiple occasions in the past once skeptics started falling in love. I'm not sure why, but this doesn't feel like that situation. This feels like the Bears are actually pretty good, and they actually should win this game. I expect them to lose one of these next very winnable games, but not this one.
  3. Ramirez does not work counts. I do believe it would be really hard to make the major leagues without trying.
  4. no, it was just normal
  5. Because the NCAA basketball tournament is a disaster with all that travel. There's about 50-75,000 fewer people at NCAA tournament sites than there are at the big bowls. I'd like a playoff, but if it's more than 4 teams, it's pretty necessary to have home games. If it's 16, absolutely. If it's 8, I think it might work. There would be 4 bowls which is essentially what they already do, but with more on the line and more reason to attend. Then you go a little more than a week later for matchups in previously agreed upon locations, and if the championship game is the NFL bye week before the Super Bowl, there is enough time for people to plan trips. That said, I'm in favor of a simple 4 team playoff involving the bowls. That maintains the intensity of the regular season where any loss can end your season, and opens it up a bit for the best of the best to prove it on the field.
  6. Define reasonable. In my opinion, over a 6 month season of games every day and loads of travel, I think it's unreasonable to expect constant max effort.
  7. The original one, yes, but then he tweaked it in practice and needed a scope and most indications from that point were that he was done for the season.
  8. The most important aspect of defensive positioning? Facing the batter as the pitch is delivered. We need to cut Darwin Barney No way, see what you can get in a trade first.
  9. I would flinch at $50. But I would not cry if they gave it to him.
  10. It's not strictly comparable because he wasn't a free agent, but Bryce Harper got a total of $9.9 million. Strasburg got 15 and Samardzija got 10. And none of these guys were free agents.
  11. Personally, I'm more worried about the Raiders than the Chargers. Soul, I'm not sure why you think you shouldn't be high on this team, but they are good. It would be nice to have another ballhawk back there for Rivers's floaters, but the Bears should be able to handle them regardless.
  12. asking prices don't surprise me. The actual offer might, but agents like throwing out gigantic numbers.
  13. So you aren't paying attention. That's settled.
  14. I don't believe that's in evidence at this point. If that's what Epstein believes, I'll trust him, but a flash video and a Cuban HR record do not convince me of that. If he is at all legit, he's big league ready. Maybe he won't be any good, but he's 26 and has played a lot of baseball, so if he's not even close to big league ready he's not going to get any money.
  15. If forgetting your sports coat is unassuming, a pitching coach releasing a statement regarding a managerial gig somebody else took is pretty damn presumptuous.
  16. That's odd. Sounds like an apology for not accepting the job.
  17. BUT THAT IS WHAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE AND WHY WE NOW HAVE TO THROW AWAY 2012 AND COMPLETELY REBUILD AND HOPE WE CAN BECOME CONTENDERS AGAIN IN 2015. Man, I miss* the good old days when everbody complained that the Cubune didn't want to win and therefore spent no money on the roster. *No, I don't really miss them.
  18. He doesn't get crap for mentioning it. Sure he does. He said it in his HOF speech and people game him crap to the extent of mocking him about his ex-wife's "transgressions". Same thing with his Yahoo Sports articles from years ago. You are either not paying attention, at all, or lying, because he doesn't get crap for mentioning it. He gets crap for harping on it, making it the centerpiece of what he's about, and actually putting it into practice. Every media member mentions the concept of changing the culture, David Kaplan freaking obsesses over that phrase and can only think about that. There are massive differences.
  19. I'm not sure I understand your interpretation of what he said.
  20. He doesn't get crap for mentioning it.
  21. Ryno preaches that ryno should be manager while Theo and Jed preach that he ain't worthy. so that right there is different. Sveum was on everybody's radar and unlike Ryno he's had major league coaching experience, the other two were not. Sveum has been a minor league manager and coach for two seperate winning teams.
  22. business, not bidness
  23. Sounds more like unprepared than unassuming.
  24. I'm pretty sure that's what they want. Apologies and benchings.
