  1. Is that his "don't talk about the system when it comes to McNabb" commentary? I read like 2 paragraphs and gave up.
  2. did anybody talk about how much time Andy Reid wasted in last night's game? He was down 17 points late in the third. He needed three scores either way and didn't have a lot of time to get them*. I think he should have settled for a FG to end the third quarter, then go into the 4th with all the time and down 2 TD. Instead he goes for it on 4th and 1 starting the 4th quarter, takes three more plays and 2 more minutes, to finally score, and the end result was he still needed 2 scores. But he had less than 13 minutes to get them. Philly didn't get the ball back again until less than 8 minutes remained, still needing 2 scores. When you are down that big, nearly 3 minutes of time is not worth the extra 4 points. Their defense sucked, and there was no guarantee of stopping them, but after already taken off 8 minutes at the end of the 3rd you at least had a fresh defense ready to go back out there. I think kicking the FG right there gives you a lot more leeway with the remaining time. You could have gotten the ball back again with more than 12 minutes to go in the 4th and down by 14, instead of getting it back with less than 8 minutes and down by 10. *As a side note, the broadcaster said something to the effect of "a field goal doesn't do anything for you here". Um, yes it does, if you are down by 17 points you need 2 TD and FG to tie, a FG absolutely helps you there. It's not like Seattle's offense went back out and scored, it was Philly's crappy QB who gave them their next and last TD.
  3. http://nhl-red-light.si.com/2011/12/01/its-the-time-of-the-season-for-nhl-coaching-upheaval/?sct=hp_wr_a4&eref=sihp Scotty Bowman talks to SI about firing coaches.
  4. I'm with you. Completely forgettable organization.
  5. It think it's absurd to call that the pessimistic low end.
  6. Yeah, if you take the rosiest prediction, assuming last year was just a blip and not a sign of early decline, and assume his defense is as good as some stats indicate (something I highly doubt), he's worth more. I just think it's getting way ahead of ourselves to expect such a thing. We should expect him to be about worth his contract, nothing more.
  7. Dude already kind of covered it. Just wanted to add that Jeffrey Loria is a horrible, deceitful, bottom line-humping businessman who hates baseball and now he's being forced to acknowledge his unfathomable wealth. They also get a ton of money from the Yankees every year.
  8. I'm not sure we should be expecting much more value over what we're paying. They probably paid as much as he's worth.
  9. I think most happen on Sunday, but normally a handful come out before because there's no other option or an automatic tie. Some circumstances like the Big East's cluster and none of the service academies or Hawaii reaching eligibility yet may cut down on that this year. The increase in number of championship games means the conference standings are somewhat in flux, at least more so than past years, which postpones some invites. Did the Pac-12 and Big 10 have a bunch of accepted invites prior to championship games in previous years? I didn't really pay attention. I thought it was more in the bowls that had non-AQ ties. I vaguely remember at least reading about locks for which bowl they would attend by now. Without the championship game you pretty much had your two BCS likely teams locked in and the rest already figured out. Right now they have 2-3 BCS candidates depending on the outcomes of these games.
  10. It's 50 guys under 25 who have already completed their rookie season. Of course there are going to be plenty of mediocre players toward the bottom.

  12. I don't think he can do much but McNabb is clearly a better option than Collins and probably better than Enderle. Did you see McNabb play this year? At least Emberle gives you a possibility of not every pass ending up near his receivers toes. The Collins comment was hyperbole but not by a lot. he completed 60% of his passes. He's always missed low
  13. They had an alleged victim with a pretty good story and another potential victim who confirmed something weird happened plus a recording that revealed a hell of a lot of bad stuff was happening. They had a hell of a story that they could have easily chosen to run with. But they didn't run it because ESPN is nothing but a promotional tool for institutions like Syracuse.
  14. . But the tape wasn't recorded illegally. ESPN determined that itself, last week, before it decided to bring out the tape to back up its Bernie Fine coverage. Nothing was stopping ESPN from checking the relevant wiretap laws back in 2003. Just like nothing was stopping it back then from hiring a voice-recognition expert to identify Laurie Fine's voice on the tape. When ESPN decided to run the story last week, those problems suddenly became solvable. The only reason ESPN didn't take those steps eight years ago is that it didn't care enough to try.

  16. They could have confirmed the voice, they waited until the more recent news to do anything about verifying the voice. And considering how outside the lines promotes itself as the moral crusader, especially with regards to amateur sports, this was a piss poor showing by them. But not nearly as bad as what PSU failed to do within their own institution.

  18. What a horribly written sentence by Sullivan. He basically said "Epstein has to decided whether to give up or not try.
  19. He already is a really nice player to compliment Castro. Granted, getting 3 would be better than 1, but I think the odds of that are extremely slim. There aren't many packages that could reasonably obtained that's going to be better than one of the top 10 pitchers in the NL for under $15Mil for the next 2 years. I think you need to find a team more desperate than the Yankees would be. Is Florida a viable trade candidate and do they have prospects to sell? The Nationals sure seem like a team that wants to make a splash someway somehow. Or could Garza be the type of pitcher Seattle could sell to their fans after dealing away Hernandez?
  20. No, it's really not. The part involving the wife is pretty funny, but then you think that the same 18 years old she was supposedly banging was raped by her husband and she knew about it, and it's pretty disgusting. Talk about a guy who has probably had some funky relationships in his adult life.
  21. as an emergency 3rd QB? I don't see how he could be of much use, although maybe it wouldn't hurt. I would guess it would be instead of McCown. But McCown was signed because he knows the offense, McNabb has been in a much different style (and been horrible doing it).
  22. The a-hole also cracked wise at a presser following the first game after the scandal. How can someone in his situation react so poorly when the PSU news still has to be fresh in their memory? How would you feel if these shady characters assaulted your friend's reputation and in turn threatened your own legacy. Maybe Fine did do some things he shouldn't have done with those guys, but that doesn't reflect on Boeheim, not after all the money he gave toward cancer research and the books he donated to the library here on campus. Get off his back and leave him alone. I understand the affection you may have for the man but it really is inexcusable to react the way he did and say what he said about the alleged victims.

  24. See the note about idioitic defenses of Paterno. For what it's worth, it was mentioned prior to your little hissy fit.
