  1. He's a short-term answer in your mind because he's only signed for 2 years. He's a valuable asset because he's relatively cheap and under team control for two years. If he signs an extension tomorrow that takes away any semblence of short-term but his relative value will decline since he'll have guaranteed money. Your circular logic is circular.
  2. STL isn't going to give him a no-trade clause. They don't need to... he already pretty much has one, doesn't he? yes
  3. baseball people are so freaking dumb
  4. STL isn't going to give him a no-trade clause.
  5. Pointless semantics. In this case, "value" and "status as an asset" are interchangeable. Because it's the only way you can try and defend your pointless stance?
  6. That much space is not dinky anywhere.
  7. A player's value and his status as an asset are two different things. The fact that he won't be cheap in three years doesn't pertain to the discussion.
  8. Jerry Sandusky every Christmas morning?
  9. Some middle age city worker up here was wearing that hat while raking leaves the other day. I was kind of confused. Although I guess he kind of looked like he could have been related to Heath Bell.
  10. Vancouver has already done an east coast swing this year, plus they have a longer one coming up in December and again in January. In early February they have a trip where they head as far east as Nashville, then after a brief stop home head out on another trip that includes Nashville again, plus NJ. If you take away some of their Chicago/Detroit/Nashville/Columbus games, and add more LA/SJ/ANA games, it probably comes pretty close to offsetting the additional trips east.
  11. Unless the Bulls win. You're right, I can't argue with the numbers. You know the ones like attendance, where mls has surpassed the NBA. I hate this silly argument. NBA teams have 41 home dates and an insane amount of playoff games. They also have much more expensive tickets. The fact that some MLS teams can sell 25,000 seats to their 15 home games doesn't mean they do better in attendance.

  13. No, it's reading exactly what he said. He should have played in the good old days because he actually cares. No, it's reading too far into it. No matter how absolutely you claim it isn't. You people aren't very good readers if you need it explained in black and white for you.

  15. I kind of don't like Sveum. It's not like he's saying it about some slap happy grit box. I like those things too when great players do it. He's saying that today's players don't care about winning and don't care about their teammates. Sure it's a compliment and a positive attribute of Fielder, but saying that isn't too far off from all the other idiotic baseball musings by old timers.
  16. That's a fairly loose definition of tradition. FSU didn't have much of any history until the late 80's. Obviously they had a tremendous run, but I wouldn't exactly call it a traditional powerhouse destined to contend. Miami has a similar timeline, although it goes back a few years earlier. Their talent base for recruitment should allow them to contend with regularity, but lots of people caught up to their style and compete for the same talent, and their futures are hardly guaranteed.

  18. With Forte out I've got to start two of: M. Bush at GB Barber at Den Gerhart at Det Morris at Min Thomas at Ten
  19. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/chi-wirtz-nhl-realignment-great-for-the-hawks-20111206,0,7714151.story My two favorite things about this new plan is that they will be able to have only one western swing (that's if the league allows them to do all 4 coastal teams plus the 2 Alberta teams) and they will be in every city once a year. No more worrying about whether I can see them in NY, NJ, PHI, PIT or the other cities. Hopefully they do the November/February road trips in a reasonable way, one out west and one out east, in relative proximity.
  20. You are still *really* sore about Ramirez, aren't you? I'm perfectly fine with it. But I'm not fine with purposefully tanking 2012.
  21. Immediately? Sure. But give Epstein a couple offseasons to keep finding well-valued talent, and I don't see any reason why he couldn't put together a team that wins 90 games in the NL Central. Again, they are going to suck for a while before any sort of 90-win potential becomes real with that plan.
  22. This team is going to suck balls for a long time if they are happy with the Dejesuses of the world for a few years. Disagree. There's more talent here than you think. Where's it hiding? No, there isn't more talent here than I think. There is a whole bunch of mediocrity.
