    Last minute benching of SF's D for the Bears D worked out well, CHI outscored them by 5 points and I won by 4.8. Thanks Brandon Lloyd for doing something last night.

    Hadn't considered the Marquis comparison - it's a pretty good comp. I wouldn't be angry if the Cubs signed him or anything (unless he cost us actual money), but it seems like I've seen him mentioned more often than a mediocre innings-eater should be. Maybe I'm overblowing it, though. Seems like a guy who is worth $4-5m, especially for a decent offensive team. But if you are running out there with the pathetic group the Cubs currently have, there's not much point in paying for mediocre pitching.

    I'd guess the interest is based on being able to throw lots of non-horrible innings. He's been about a 1.2 - 1.5 WAR pitcher for several years, with 190 - 210 IP. Basically a little better than Jason Marquis was when they signed him.

    Somehow the Bears are still 4 point favorites. This has to be a reputation line, since Chicago was quite good early and Seattle was quite bad. But Seattle has won 4 of 5, granted 3 of those wins were at home and they only have 2 road wins all year, but 1 was at the Giants. The Bears should conceivably be able to shut down Seattle's mediocre offense, but all they need is 10-12 points.

    Except one is a roller coast and the other is a ferris wheel. Fielder produced in his "down" year. Comparing age 23-26 seasons with age 28 seasons also isn't fair. Not to mention fielder putting in full seasons to soto playing much less. Fielder has varied from ver goo to great. Insinuating that he's as unreliable as soto or terribly inconsistent just doesn't hold up.

    Ramirez takes a lot of unfair heat from multiple sources, but Wrigley Field has always buzzed positively for the guy. I think he'll get an ovation.

    I don't follow your math here. If he repeats his next 3 years twice, which you acknowledge is super optimistic, we're looking at overpaying by 25 million or so. Add in the down year like you mention, and any type of decline for the last year or two of his contract, and we're probably looking at overpaying by closer to 50 million. I just don't know if Fielder's star is bright enough for that type of gamble. Why is it super optimistic that he repeats his age 25-27 seasons in his age 28-30 seasons?

    Seems like an odd way to value a player. I understand the logic of it, but I would guess it's pretty rare for any player to bring back a pick as high as the one he was taken with. If a player is getting traded, there's usually a good reason why he doesn't get similar value. Cutler, ironically, is a rare exception of a top 15 pick getting a top 15 pick + in return. I'm not sure why you are trying to characterize trades the way you are. Trades in general are rare in the NFL. There's a couple different reasons for them. A) A team doesn't want the guy so they move him to another team, or B) A player outperforms expectations but the team that has him has another guy in place and so they trade him to a team that can use him. This often happens with QBs, like Cassel and Kolb. And on occasion, a team doesn't have interest in signing an extension to a star player and they move him for pretty high value, like Richard Seymour. All of those guys were traded for value at or above where they were taken. If a player is taken in the 1st round, then gets traded 5 years later for a 3rd round pick, his team was trying to get rid of him and he didn't live up to his 1st round status.

    using the trade value chart, a #31 has the same value as #54 and #70, together (you're obviously going to disagree, but) i think it's pretty reasonable to say that his on-field play with the Bears would basically only have to justify that of a 54th overall pick, which he more than did I think that's a silly way to try and justify it.

    There's pretty wide gap between being a bust and not playing up to the position you were drafted. The Bears didn't get 1st round TE production out of him and they didn't get good value in trade for him in the prime of his career. He wasn't a bust, he was a nice player who did some nice things. He just didn't perform up to what you'd hope for that pick.

    I'd argue Olsen didn't outplay or play up to his draft position, but he's been worth more than a damn. i saw it as, he led the team in receiving TDs three straight seasons and then netted a high 3rd rounder via trade hard to complain too much about that from the 31st overall pick Having a guy who was worth the 31st pick get traded for the 70ish pick 5 years later doesn't support that argument. And leading this team in TDs as a receiver says more about the Bears than him.

    So you are sticking with the comment then completely refuting it? Look I know Hester is a great player and this is Forte's breakout year, so while admitting that those two players have been great for us, I'm not going to give Angelo a pass. In doing so, that in no way refutes my thought process that Angelo has been horrible and his drafts in large have been unproductive. With the exception of Briggs and Urlacher, we've drafted 0 blue chip players. I'm not an Angelo fan, but the statements you've made have been ludicrous.

    Well, his drafting has been the main reason why the offensive line has sucked so much and contributed to the abuse Cutler took, although not specifically on that play.

    For some reason, despite Seattle still having to play tonight, there is a line for this game and it is 4.5 right now. I can't imagine the Bears giving points right now. They've lost three straight to the worst conference in the league. Seattle does suck, but they've managed road wins in NY and STL. This is probably going to be another really ugly game. The Bears are currently tied with 5 other teams at the 16th pick spot. 2-1 is the best they can do from here, 1-2 might be more realistic, but 0-3 is a definite possibility if they don't do a lot more on offense. Hopefully nobody else that matters suffers an injury that threatens 2012. My guess is the new guy from Seattle will be taking over for Angelo if he leaves, and the Bears will do something incredibly dull and uninteresting in trying to replace Martz.

    your posts deserve to be trolled, they're terrible. saying that the bears haven't drafted a player worth a damn in over 5 years is a lot dumber than someone calling you out on your nonsense. You can list names if you wish to prove my post wrong, or you can just troll my post and look stupid. You also have to option to read between the lines and understand that I completely hate Angelo and his horrible managing of my favorite NFL team. Forte is a nice player, but we've had so many misses in the draft and we have had years to shore up this o-line which still has yet to be done. This season was basically a duplicate of last season. O-line issues, no WRs, less good TE play and a good aging defense. So you are sticking with the 5 years comment?

    Come on now, his worst season in the last three is equivalent to Soto's best year ever. And Prince is younger. Soto made a big splash in year one, and hasn't been back to that level since. Prince was 2 years younger when he made a bigger splash, and he's exceeded that level twice since.
